It is true that people are entitled to their opinions. However, in this instance, I don't really see why there should be any anti-Classic posts in this thread.
The purpose of this thread is to inform people that Classic is at risk of going away forever, and to convince them to sign a petition in hopes of keeping it up. Therefore, posts in support of Classic are acceptable here. People who are indifferent could post something like "I don't really care about Classic, and most people don't. I don't think you're going to get anywhere.", I suppose. However, even that is a bit pointless.
There is no reason to attempt to convince people NOT to support Classic. There is nothing detrimental about keeping it available. It puts no major load on Mojang at all, and, if anything, will convince people to buy the game, not provide them a route to escape from playing (it doesn't have hardly any of the content of the main game).
Posting against the continuation of Classic is just selfish. You're expressing an entirely illogical opinion there. If you think you have some facts to base your thoughts on, your facts are wrong. Some people want to play Classic. Let them. If you don't like it (as the above poster said), you do not have to play it! Its existence will not affect you in any way at all. It's just something there that some people enjoy. You don't have to involve yourself in it at all. If you're supporting the removal of Classic, you're basically saying "I don't like this game, so don't let anyone else play it!" You can convince yourself otherwise as much as you want, but in a nutshell, that's the message you send.
This thread should never have become a battleground. Those of you against Classic who are claiming innocence -- that you were simply expressing your opinion, and were attacked for it -- are the root of the problem. Yes, those of us supporting Classic have fought back and fed the flames, but had nobody come in with the intent of bashing Classic, this never would have happened. The only people who should be in this thread are those who are supporting Classic, because there are only two logical opinions here. You can support Classic, or you can be indifferent. If you're indifferent... well, you're indifferent, and you have no reason to post here. If you're posting against Classic, not only do you not belong here; your opinion is either based on faulty facts, or you just want to aggravate others.
Would you walk into a room full of people who like a certain type of food, and start loudly bashing that particular food? I hope not. Would you expect them to sit idly by and listen to/consider what you had to say? I really hope not. It's entirely pointless to do something like that. Those people clearly are not going to listen to you; they're just going to yell at you. You're in there for NO REASON (does their appreciation for that food affect you in any way at all? nope) attacking their beliefs.
This isn't a debate thread. The title isn't "Should Classic Stay?". It's "SIGN THIS PETITION TO SAVE MINECRAFT CLASSIC". This is an advertisement for a movement to save a game. It's not meant for argument, especially considering how stupid it is to be anything other than in support of Classic or indifferent.
Maybe you don't realize you're trolling, but you are. Check your facts; they're entirely wrong or exaggerated.
You're claiming that the world is flat in a room with a globe...
Trolling?
I am not trolling. I might have two infractions, but I certenlly did not get a infraction from this tread.
I'll make a deal with you classic supporters. Give me 10 reasons why classic is better than Prenium Minecraft, and you can't repeat reasons.

Support, don't play classic anymore though i should. But if it wasn't for classic I would'nt of bought my MC account or ever found out about the updated version of minecraft!
Mollstam tweeted this... So now this thread is useless. It will never be on the front page but will still exist, So stop crying because you think they are removing classic.

Oh, it's so going to harm you if they keep the link there! That little grey text is just the end of the world!
Did that sound stupid? If it did, why are you against it? It's 2 lines of small, nearly invisible text. And consider others. Yes, I don't play classic, but lots of people do. They should add the classic .jar to our new launcher, and allow people without an account to play (just type in your free account info and for Mojang accounts, a username)

Most of the argument isn't about keeping the link. In fact, Mojang is (as far as I know) leaving it up, just without the link. You can still play it with the URL, or by downloading an old .jar for it (MCNostalgia?) The argument is over whether or not classic should be kept up at all.
Whether or not the thread should be going in that direction is a different argument entirely, but at least respond to the posts people make, and not what the OP implies people should be posting.
EDIT for everyone: Mollstam is right about the server thing. Since they're keeping Classic up (without the link though), it becomes your job to get people on your server, as it is with the latest versions. Why should they do it for classic if they don't do it for the latest versions?

Traffic and bandwidth.
I bet you’re gonna say traffic and bandwidth matters as much as a penny to Mojang.
* I have to downgrade my Java to play it
* Can’t play offline; have to play it in browser (clients are fan-made, not Mojang-made. If…“Mojang-made”…even…makes…any…sense…)
* Limited world size (and, with the multiple worlds thing, you said we don’t have to play multiplayer. Oh, so create a new world, well, I guess I’ll keep my stadium in half)
* Always. Have. To. Change. My. Settings. Every. Time. I. Play. Classic. (Yep, people told me to play it more times, and it gets worse.)
* No fullscreen mode
* Can’t place on “bedrock” (so if I get stuck in a lava pit, I have to get out and all my creations will be destroyed)
* Can’t place water
* Can’t place lava
* And, can’t take screenshots
As of July 1, 2013 for the 2nd time Mojang has removed the link to Multiplayer & Singleplayer modes which will cause the VAST degration of servers and communitys.

Oh my god. Is keeping classic up going to kill you? Like, once they put off the link, you start suffocating? Does it cause you physical pain? Last I checked, it won't.
If you don't want to play classic:
YOU DON'T HAVE TO!!!! Stuff that in your head! Just do it! Holy hell!
I'll have to say I'm on the side of the pro-classics here. Where is there a problem with keeping classic. Like ^he^ said, if you don't want to play Classic, then don't play it. How does keeping it hurt you?
Also, this should be moved to general discussion and possibly locked. It's turning into a flame war.

I don't know why people compare 1.6.2 to Classic. They are so far off that they are basically different games. I play them for completely different reasons. When I want to just relax, maybe build a bit, go on classic and mess around. If I want to kill stuff and survive, I go on SMP servers. When I want to mess ith redstone and build super projects, I go on creative mode on 1.6.2. They are totally different games in my opinion and comparing them is not a good idea. Classic has more to offer than you guys may think. It seems like by your comments that most of the negative posters have never been on a good classic server, or played multiplayer Classic at all. The softwares on classic make servers easy to set up and maintain and they offer a lot of commands, not only for building. On certain classic servers you can do a ton of building commands to help build, chat, mess around, and you can play games like Lava Survival, Zombie Survival or Gun Battles. My server has Team Deathmatch games that create teams and keeps full stats of kills/deaths and has customizable game options. Classic servers can have much more to offer than meets the eye. Also, most Classic servers are not "buggy" really. There are some things that are bad like not being able to place on bedrock, but really the main problem is the Java thing. The first time I ever went on a Classic server I fell in love with the game and I still like it better than SMP. SMP servers are always too serious and you never have time to just sit and build. Creative mode 1.6 servers are kind of fun I guess, but they have much less to offer than Classic imo and the building commands (WorldEdit) are more difficult to use than the ones in Classic. There are many reasons to keep Classic. If you don't like it, oh well, it isn't for you. But there is no reason to want it to go away just to deprive people of a game that they like. And despite many claims here, many people DO still play Classic.

I'll make a deal with you classic supporters. Give me 10 reasons why classic is better than Prenium Minecraft, and you can't repeat reasons.
There are not much reasons to why classic is better. I can only think about these:
1. Less lag on old computers
2. For users who have no money(Poor children with poor families or they have strict parents -.-)
3. Lava Survival(Lava Survival on the modern Minecraft doesn't go very well with it's physics)
4. People say it is calmer(I feel calmer playing and listening to the music)
5. Less lag on multiplayer(I never had much lag problems on Classic)
Now for the cons
1. Finite size
2. Mojang removed survival gamemode
3. Liquid physics suck alot
4. Not much blocks
5. No full screen(F11)
6. Java 7 ruins it.
7. Kids that rage and grief
8. Not much mods
9. Less servers than modern minecraft
10. Sound/music and saving levels is broken(Thanks to mojang)
I still play Classic(In my spare time or when I am playing on my Windows XP laptop)
FTFY.
Give me 10 reasons NOT to keep classic.
No, seriously. There aren't any.
Please do.

You shouldn't taunt the mods.
That's just basic forum 101, there.
I can't say I'll miss classic, on account of never really playing it.
Of course, I understand why some people might be nostalgic for it.
I'm not taunting them. Im asking them.
