I recently made a pool in my minecraft city. But squids keep spawning in it! How do I stop them from spawning. If I can't, what should I do about this problem? I can't run my world on bukkit or download anything
Squids can only spawn under certain conditions. Limit your water pools to certain proportions and they wont spawn. You might find some info about them here; http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Squid
Have the water they spawn in flow into some sort of trap made from lava or something like that.
What kind of trap? It seems like everything I come up with can cause other players to get caught in the trap too. I want people to be able to go swimming. Any ideas?
Since the squid have their own mobcap, then( depending on how many people come on your server and how far they go in the world) put a high concentration of squid (for ssp, about 100 will do, for smp maybe around 200-250) in a small water area, and it will stop other squid from spawning. The same thing works with regular mobs, peaceful and hostile, but they will despawn if you get too far from them.
if you set 'cheat' on, type /gamerule DoMobSpawning false.
but this option is not only for squid.
It says "No gamerule called 'DoMobSpawning' is available. Just to let you know, I've never downloaded ANYTHING for minecraft except for a few texture packs and a map.

/drain 99999999999999.
Oh wait, that will get rid of the pool, too, not to mention it involves mods.
Do /gamerule doMobSpawning, or build your pool above layer 60.
Your best bet would probably be get a bunch of squids in spawn chunks and then nametag them to prevent them from despawning. They should fill up the mob cap and prevent more from spawning.

Actually its doMobSpawning false, The game is picky like that.
Thanks! Now it works
Replace lava to water
I love squids so much.
/gamerule doMobSpawning so mobs don't naturally spawn.
only with a spawn egg
