Hello my fellow mincraftians, ever wanted to build your own cottage? Well now you can! With this very easy-to-follow guide.
Before i get started i would like to point out that this is my very first post.
Now that's out of the way we can get started.
Now i know some of these 'how to' topics often have houses that only look good in a certain texture pack, but my custom built lodge looks good in any texture pack, even the default one, by far the best texture pack for the detail in this cottage is 'SummerFields'.
Some pictures
Now that you've seen the outcome, here is how to build it.
Step #1: Make a 10by9 grid of wooden planks, and outline with wood, the way you want your house facing replace wood with wood planks.
Step #2: Once done, proceed to add 2 more width of wooden planks, going in the direction your house is facing, then add another 2 width of wooden slabs. (Look at picture, more clearer then my explanation XD)
Step #3: Time to make the frame of the house.
Front: Place 2 doors in the very centre, after that put a 3by3 square of wood on either side, dig out the middle hole and add glass or glass pane.
Sides: Make a 3by8 rectangle and make room for the windows in the middle, copy onto opposite side, Not you can have the wood facing anyway for the sides)
Back: Hopefully none of you's get confused but this is the back wall, the roof is 1 block higher, so please dont follow this back frame as the roof template.
Step #4: The frame of the roof, allows a second floor/attic with a nice window to look out, can easily be turned into a small balcony. At the front of your semi-built cottage there should be a flat surface ontop of the door, to begin making the frame, place a wood block at either end, then continue up on a angle toward the top point.
The 2 frames are 6 blocks apart (6 blocks space between them, not including the block it is on)
Step #5: Adding the roof and finalizing
Just add in the roof, your choice of slabs or stairs, i preffer stairs, they give a nice slope, then decorate, add anything you want.
So with all that done your cottage should look something like this if you followed my horrible 'easy-to-follow' instructions, hopefully the pictures will help you understand what i was trying to say.
I hope this helped you make a brand new cottage, leave any questions you have below, im hoping to get positive feedback, and remember this is my first post so please dont be to harsh.
Considering a lot of people's first post is "Look at my awesome server!!!", I'd say you've contributed way more than expected from a first post
Cool cottage, I might try building one using different types of wood to add a little more color, birch and jungle half slabs might help spruce up the cottage's color a bit (pun intended)

Thanks man, really appreciate it, and i'd love to see what it looks like
I like it. Maybe try and add some greenery though?
True, but the biome i was in was making the leaves turn out a orangy-yellow on my texture pack, i would love to see what type of things people will add. Thanks!
That is a really complete and informative guide. Obviously I wouldn't have done it the same exact way, but that's the very nature of Minecraft isn't it?
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
"Sometimes, I just wanna give up, say 'I'm done with this mess' and go to bed. But you know what; you can't shrug off your responsibilities. You got to pull yourself up and meet the challenges head on. That's the only way you're gonna get ahead in life."
No problem at all, if you guys wanna see more like this just let me know, i like making guides like these and i can come up with some pretty 'niffty' things.
Nicely done. I think I know what I will use as my new house design. One question though, is that wheat growing on the side of the house on the second pic? If so, it gives it a nice touch to it.
Very nice cottage. Just built it in 10 minutes or so and that was with looking back at this guide
Yeah, very easy to build, and it gives a nice feel if you build buildings with the same sort of design around it, i defiently want to see someone put this into a city/spawn.

Yeah, i like it alot, the wheat was added on later, i do agree that it gives a nice touch, i put the wheat on both sides if you were wondering XD
Yeah, SummerFields is amazing, but im not sure if anyone else has noticed that with-out optifine (or similar mod) some of the blocks appear glitchy, for example netherbrick looks like flowing water, gold blocks have a flame animation on every face, so i dont know what happened there, but when you fix it, it really looks amazing, i have a picture of my servers spawn, looks so good, i'll post it later
Pretty good for a first post. Maybe next time, though:
-More detail, less flat walls
-Better blending between materials
-Don't be afraid to make it asymetrical. Maybe add a chimney, with webs as smoke.
Thanks, although im not to sure what you meant by blending between materials better, and its only a small cottage, so i used flat walls to make it not look distorted, and you could defiently add a chimney, i didnt even think of that, thanks man

that u should use more materials and to use them better. I think he meant about how u "mix" the materials at your cottage.

Can't wait to see it.

There's a slime in your house.

XD, If only it was a slime, that infact is a creepers head, my texture pack makes them more greener and changes the face.
