Simply beautiful. I love it when designers pay attention to small details, because it's small things, like different varieties of flowers, keep making the game seem spontaneous and different. Not only that, but they made different flowers appear in different biomes, making them foreign to those who live in a totally different biome. The biomes that have been added are simply colorful and well implemented. Not only that, but they are adaptive to be placed by those that are similar to it. (Nothing worse than having a desert biome that borders a snowy forest.) I was also impressed seeing how huge the amplified worlds are. I created a new world today upon the stable release of 1.7 and I still can't stop playing.
Out of curiosity, I went to the "upcoming features" section of Minecraft Wiki, and they seem to be planning for 1.8. Now let's be honest everyone, how can this be topped? Mojang has totally outdone themselves again!

Ever wanted to play Minecraft on your own difficulty? I did too, and now I'm getting better by practicing at my own pace!
Finding lots of broken landscape now - extreme hills with the sides cuts off so they look like tall cuboids with lava and water squirting out.
Also so lagging, crashing constantly.
That happened because the terrain generation code changed from 1.6 to 1.7. Even though the seed is the same, you will get sharp cuts like that.
Similar things have happened in the past, like when people update from Beta 1.7 to Beta 1.8, 1.8 to 1.0, etc.

One of these days I'm gonna think of something clever to put in this signature. One of these days I tell you....
Had anybody noticed that the Achievement "Delicious Fish" has changed names? It now says "Slammin' Salmon". I checked the wiki and there's nothing said about it there and I have yet to notice anyone else mention it.
Welcome to my signature! I'm on the forums almost everyday (even if its just for a few minutes) So if you have something to tell me or tell me about, just send me a PM (private message) Note- I do not usually check the places I post to see if there are replies, so the above applies. ~Notch
I will say it again...why did the developers release this so early? You could not believe how hyped up I was when first hearing about the update, but now I feel disappointed.
It still needs lots of work...so much work that I really can't be bothered to state it all. However, I have made other posts stating some of the negatives.
I still like the update and will happilly play it, but that doesn't stop me from being disappointed.
This. Playing through all of the snapshots myself, I saw all of the new bugs created, and also all of the new features that were *partially* implemented. When I heard that it was already being released, I was baffled that they were releasing it so soon without even fixing many the bugs created by the snapshots. Biomes could've been reworked more, structures are still a mess, lighting errors are happening more than when they were first fixed, and the new sound system with integration with resource packs needs more work and to have an event calling system so resource packs can not only add new sounds, but make them be used how they wanted. Shaders need to be more powerful, but the least they could have done is changed the button name to "shaders".
I'm not sure why they rushed it so much, but if I had to guess I'd say:
halloween
minecon
dinnerbone wants to play pokemon
jeb just got back from vacation but doesn't want to work again yet
the Mojang workers are all infected with brain parasites that damage decision making and timing skills
they're leaving most testing to the community and do very little testing themselves
they've already started on 1.8, and do not want to backport or include more features in 1.7 (not wanting to lessen 1.8)
Or maybe it could be a mix of those. I'm thinking all of those combined, plus maybe jeb getting a strange bout of food-poisoning from a bad restaurant that his tour-guide recommended.....
"I'm an outsider by choice, but not truly.
It’s the unpleasantness of the system that keeps me out.
I’d rather be in, in a good system. That’s where my discontent comes from:
being forced to choose to stay outside.
My advice: Just keep movin’ straight ahead.
Every now and then you find yourself in a different place."

At the rate we are going,
Dont worry v1.8 will be out in a few weeks, then 2.0 by thanksgiving, and by Xmas we will see v2.5.
I'm glad the feature to run older versions is so easy to use - 1.6.4 working fine, but 1.7.2 just gets stuck on 99% CPU in task manager.
Admittedly it's a slightly older PC, but it runs fine with the settings turned down. But the new version just sits gets stuck and windows puts "(not responding)" at the top.
everything looks great but I have tried three times generating worlds and spending several hours flying about plenty of taigas and extreme hills but not one Mesa, or Jungle the other new areas are tiny but taigas are huge and extreme hills are abundant. maybe the generator needs tweakin? or am I just having really bad luck?
Ditto. I've spent a couple of hours flying around on 20 or so new seeds and not one mesa or jungle. WAY more forests and extreme hills than before. I seem to be cursed with birch forests. *ugh*
Is this new, or am I just crazy unobservant? It seems the textures on the north and east faces of blocks are mirrored from the actual image file.
This is how the texture should appear, as it shows up on the west face on the block:
This is how it appears on the north:
It's not just on the command block, either. You can see it on all of my ores, and even the TNT, which still has the vanilla texture (look closely; the N is backwards):
Is this a bug? I've loved almost everything about this update, but this is kind of freaking me out and annoying me. Not gonna lie.
Out of curiosity, I went to the "upcoming features" section of Minecraft Wiki, and they seem to be planning for 1.8. Now let's be honest everyone, how can this be topped? Mojang has totally outdone themselves again!
Two things:
1. Fix the villagers' AI FCOL.
2. Sea monsters would be cool.

Try this seed: you'll spawn right in a Mesa biome (be really careful if you use Amplified on this, but, it will look awesome):

If you go to X=-700, Z=270 you'll see the village from hell.
Awesome, I finally got off my rear and updated from 1.2.5 to 1.6.4 and now this! After reading these comments though I can see that there is clearly no reason for me to rush and try to update, again.
@insomniac_lemon
It's your post (#10) that mainly stopped me from wanting to update. Thank you for saving me some serious headaches.

Low post count does not always mean "noob", it can also mean that the search button works.

Same here.
Also, I will say, I think they rushed the duck out of this update. They said they would have a menu for shaders, and I've seen a plethora of issues (Me and everyone else).
One particularly weird bug: If you wear fresh unused armor, then get it damaged while wearing, your armor placement section thing in the E menu is 100% blacked out unless you hover over something. Discovered while wearing a leather hat only.
I don't get why this update is called "The World Update"
I can't see anything new but flowers...
What the hell is World changing in the update???
Still no fish mob.
Mesa biome(unrealistic)-sucks
Large flowers can't be placed on a flower pot
No mod-api
And this is the worst update of Minecraft...
-World changing aspects include many new biomes, new blocks, new behaviors like seeing through translucent blocks, shaders, the AMPLIFIED world generation option... the list goes on.
-I can't say there will ever be a fish mob, but this is an odd thing to single out.
-Mesa biome unrealistic? Nope - example of a real place, Bryce Canyon: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/f/f7/Bryce_Canyon_Amphitheater_Hoodoos_Panorama.jpg
-Large flowers can't be potted - you complain about Mesa biome being unrealistic (when it isn't), and then you complain about something being realistic (large flowers can't be put into small pots)? That makes a lot of sense...
-As said in other posts, the code is being reworked to allow the mod-api to come out. But tell me, will you actually use it? Or are you just complaining because you THINK it'll make all mods automatically work together? (hint - it won't).
-I think it's one of the best updates yet. Your opinion is an odd one.
