Everyone is happy for 1.5.1 i love notch for all these updates its awesome!!!!!!!!Well i am happy for everyone thinking of these updates even the mojang company
I get stuck at the Mojang loading screen, I am running OSX 10.8.2
So are you saying this happened when you tried to use the snapshot or 1.5 update? Because when I updated my minecraft on both of my macs it got stuck on the Mojang screen, but I then just closed the window and relaunched minecraft and it loaded just fine after that... I have OSX 10.7.5 and 10.6.8
I don't know if I'll ever use a snapshot. I just wait for the updates. Are snapshots worth installing and playing with the risk of encountering possible bugs? I don't really want to be a tester, so am I right in thinking snapshots aren't for me?
If you prefer to play in single player, or play on a snapshot server, I think the snapshots are worth your time. You will definitely encounter bugs from the snapshot version, but they're rarely the kind of bug that can corrupt your world. For example, most of the features in 1.5 dealt with new items rather than terrain generation, so there was little risk to running the snapshots.
Should I update, or stay on 1.5. I want to get rid of bugs, but It seems like its more problematic than anything, am I right?
( Im more of a server guy than SP)
If you play on a big server, I'd advise just sticking with 1.5. You have access to updated texture packs, optifine, server plugins, etc. However, if any of the snapshot features really catch your eye, it's worth it to test.
You can't have a bad snapshot with bug fixes. Snapshots almost have only bug fixes.

"Strong Pokémon. Weak Pokémon. That is only the selfish perception of people. Truly skilled Trainers should try to win with the Pokémon they love best."
So, you actually think that major versions are bug-free ? They are just snapshots given a final stage release number, before something new is implemented. Oh, yes, they are also full of bugs like any other snapshot. You can check it out on minecraft wiki. Also I think that the next snapshot is actually LESS buggy than the final version before it, as you can see in this example with MC1.5.1 - right here. 1.5 official has white dots, 1.5.1 no white dots - less bugs (bugs found in 1.5 are now gone) But the bugs aren't such big things, and are kinda hard to encounter if you don't know where to look...
This is actually a constantly changing piece of code, and will never be finished - as I see it, never absolutly bug free (as any other software out there)
Does the painting fix solve the problem with maps not working? I'm not a tester so I figured I'd ask here. I mean to me it sort f makes sense, since a map in a wall frame kind of operates the same, and the map glitch extends to framed ones.
Bad Snapshot.
This steak is so rare I threw a masterball at it!
-Gordon Ramsay... maybe... someday?
Nope, he won't say it
I have a Dev Craftbukkit, and WorldEdit Dev-Snapshot with no bugs;
They work pretty well.

there is no land in sight.
