Woah... wait a minute... if you can combine two tools, both with, let's say, Efficiency VI, and the outcome is Efficiency V, can you continue to mix picks like that to get levels you could never get before? (2 V -> VI, 2 VI -> VII)
For me, the Repair doesn't stick out as much as the Name part. At last I can build up my awesome iron (XD) sword Skysunder and have the name actually visible...
Did anyone notice the name part i think this is going to be for adventure maps so you can name items and tools so they could say sword of Steve, diamond sword
Dinnerbone said that we will not only be able to name swords/bows/tools, but any item. Map makers will be happy with this indeed. And it costs 50 or so levels guys. It isn't overpowered.

Combining enchantments sounds horribly broken. Hopefully, it'll incur a loss in enchantment level or something.
If not, we'll be seeing Sharpness IV Flame Aspect I Knockback II swords everywhere.
I imagine that the amount of levels below the combined pickaxe in the picture is how many levels it would require in order to combine two enchanted items. This means if you want that kind of god sword you would probably needs all of the pieces first. Sharpness IV, Flame Aspect II, and Knockback II. And then you would need a massive amount of levels on top of this to combine the already costly high level enchants. And if you succeeded in making that god sword you would probably have to pay a massive amount of levels just to combine it with a normal unenchanted diamond counterpart if you ever want to repair it.
The system looks like it was more so designed for us to use levels to keep the enchantments we want. At that point we may ask ourselves, is looting II worth it on this sword when it takes an extra 10 levels just because of it? Featherfalling IV on my protection IV boots is nice, but do I really want to waste x amount more of levels just because of it? We'd only then want the enchantments that merit the experience wasted to repair the tool every time rather than trying to hoard on every single possible enchantment on the piece of armour or tool.
Edit: On a side note. The diamond pickaxe in that picture has Effiency V, which is not normally possible for diamond, it's only possible for gold to have it. Maybe with this new repairing system we will be able to combine different types of materials with each other when it comes to enchanting? Either that or the person in the picture just spawned himself some unlegit enchant?

But think about it, if someone has lots of XP and time, and has good enchants, that person will make God stuff, and I also love feather falling, so I would pay 50 XP to get my feather falling IV to my protection IV boots. That's just me.

So, if somebody has a grinder and lots of time they can get the best possible stuff!?... that's different than now, how?

These images were posted on imagur along with a twitter notice a while ago, the twitter notice saying that it wouldn't be overpowered because it will be expensive to use and there will be limits to it.
Yep. It's still a repair system, it's just that they nerfed it a little bit.
I said this. Two days later, my computer's motherboard melted down and I had to get a new one with Windows 8.
Irony in the first degree.

Find a double skelly spawner, and your good.
Still...
I WANT MORE BOWS MOJANG.

Repair and Name? NAME!
So, you can repair your items, and name them?
EDIT: Looks like this was already mentioned
