Unless you're partied? SWTOR and probably a dozen other games would also not be MMOs using that definition. Besides, if you're going to remove the game from the genre you have to give it a genre to go into.
Aye, but a MMO (to me) is a game that is multiplayer at all times. Asheron's Call comes to mind...
Also, MC updates have been a joke since a solid 6 months before release when it became clear that the obscene amount of money Mojang was making and all the parties they were throwing weren't leading to creatively enhancing their player's experience.
Cynicism aside...
MC has not had an update since 1.2.5 If you're saying that the "snapshots" (or test builds) were buggy...well that was their purpose.
The only problem I can see is lack of communication between the testers (us) and Mojang. Which is why I suggested a playerbase group that could bridge that gap.
I'd rather just not have to do with 5-7 days of instability for... emerald.
I am going to assume this was just a loaded sentence. Because they have added much more than ...emerald.
Again, I do feel bad that you folks can not experience the game now. Since the 1.3 release only issues I have seen are the Nether bug, and water damage. Doesn't mean the other issues are "unimportant" or anything, just that I have not experienced them. Again, that group of players who could talk to Mojang would come in handy...
good, now i can have a bit of peace of mind. i have no clue what 'snooper mode' is so i have no clue if it is off or on. is it a seperate program? because even with control pack and optifine which have settings out the whazzo i have no snooper thing. and it's not on magic launcher my mod manager either. so i can assume for now it is no issue. than again i'm not sure what it is.
Two things:
1) I run vanilla, so any modifications I will have no idea if they are sending data via net.
2) Snooper mode should be somewhere under options, I do not remember off hand exactly where. (Options in MC that is)
and what i mean by server issues, is mostly stability and if a big company like blizz has crap servers, then i doubt any smaller company or less has anything remotely decent. i mostly didn't want to be on minecraft and have it suddenly croak for no reason.
Well I am neither a big nor small company. I run a personal server that 10 or so folks play on, none have them have "suddenly croaked for no reason"
As a matter of fact, any online (MMO or otherwise) game I have played; never have I "suddenly croaked for no reason". Hell even the current MC release, I die cause the Nether isn't loading properly.
Look into how servers operate, in general. Once you understand the basics, you should be able to find a server that is run properly.
i hate multiplayer in games, online or otherwise, ranks right up with quick time events to me. both are better off removed. so that is my main concern. i started minecraft as a lone wolf and i'll be damned if that changes. but now i know it won't.
Well, since ye are not the only player of Minecraft I would have to say that suggestion is not too valid. What happens to all the folks that like playing with their friends? They should not get to enjoy a game, because you don't like multiplayer?
YAY! This would be good when my vacation is over! Then I'll go back to the USA, and play MC 1.3.1 right off the bat! (maybe after I take a quick doze off :D)
I know this post was ages ago but i just want to say personally i believe that it is the worst update yet! There is SOOOO many bugs like chunks screwing up even after relogging, lots of crashing, "internal errors" that crash your singleplayer/LAN server and worst of all, I cant play online! as soon as i click join server, the gaes freezes and I have to restart my computer! and its not my computer i have 64 bit, and like 10GB of RAM so as i said its not my computer! please tell me if this is happening to anyone else!
Yay! I really like the new texture for the gravel. Finally looks like something I might use in a structure.
I totally agree with you, though the old texture was more realistic, BUT SO BORING! I am also extremely glad they changed it! I believe it almost looks like a non glowing glowstone which I never liked the yellow look of it so I'm excited about gravel too!
oh and something else i was excited about, TRIPWIRES! They are so much fun! you just place to hooks, and place string in between them and hook up your redstone! i made a trap on my server for my friend, when he stepped into his house he was overwhelmed by the ammount of zombies, skeletons and spiders in his house! Tripwires are pretty much pressure plates, but SO easier to hook up!btw everyone, if you had the same problem as me with multiplayer, you just had to leave your computer for like 10 minutes (but who is that desprate to play) and it will begin connecting to the server of your choice! oh and when its finished, join my PvP server on 64.74.111.84! ill tell you when its up and running!

1.3 is amazing. but what if there was a button that said something like "LAN server: OFF or ON." so when you make your world, you can either turn the setting to OFF and play 100% SSP or you can put it to ON and have a chance to publish your LAN world for your friends to play in. then for those people who don't want a LAN server they can play SSP with reduced lag. and peole can stop complaining about the lagginess in their games. also, I think I have found the solution to why those people can't play on a LAN server. That is because you need your computer REALLY close to your friends so that they can play. Or you need the same Wi-Fi to play. so for those of you who had trouble trying to play Multiplayer with your friends, this might be the solution to fix the problem.
-But still LOVE 1.3, no update could be better than this ( as of now.)
I found a nether fortress pretty quick in 1.3.1 (I usually generate a new world when the terrain generation changes) and it has none of those rooms with the nether brick stairs that as far as I can tell are the only place nether wart generates. There goes my ability to make potions. I've also noticed a lack of abandoned mines since updating and usually I'd run into at least one by now. I've noticed other little quirks like forests being super dense. Anyone got a clearer picture what changed?

I feel like a broken record saying this, but they did NOT do this local multiplayer thing so you could play on your local LAN. They did it so they only have one codebase to work with, which will make everything easier - in the long run - for them and for modders. The "open to lan" button is actually just a beneficial side effect and has nothing to do with the actual reason they did it.
Yes, it's buggy and no, they should not have released it like this. But it's here for a good reason and because of that, it's here to stay.
a pig was pushing me into a wall and i started losing health. is this the same glitch as the water? he did this three times so i pushed him into my natural mining cave and threw his pork chops into the lava .

Just don't play multiplayer.
And don't open your map up for LAN play...
wow servers always died without warning. then again to me they are a **** company. i played rift for a short while, and it was way more stable.
and i don't play multiplayer, which is why i was conserned. but i hate multiplayer because i have a horrible wifi, mostly on my ps3 and ipod, so online play is a waste. my connection drops out whenever it wants, so even if i knew anyone i could play online with it would be pointless. and nearly all my bad experiences with games were from online games. so i have a bit of an issue with online anything in games.
but anyway as long as my map stays mine i'm happy.
and another poster mentioned core support, i have been wondering if it would ever get that at all. i have a quad core machine, so maybe the stutter is mostly the multi cores, if so then i have to give it a shot at least. and i have more then enough ram for minecraft to eat.
This update has added so many great features.
I am aware of the bugs, but I just really don't care.. Anything critical has not happened so why I should be worried?
Anyways.. I got better fps, no need of optifine(I tested it and fps didnt increase anymore because 1.3 did it) But optifine is still useful in many other ways.
Yet, no chunk lags, no crashes.. Some mobs are laggin' but just a little... And creating world is really random..
I just have to say.. I forgot every bug because there's so MANY new awesome things! And before we even notice, an bugfix update has been released..
I totally agree Jared & fatass (not mean just ur name but without the mr!) My minecraft is TERRIBLE NOW! Do many "internal errors" as I've already said, my computer freezes when I try to connect to a server (but about 10 second later because my computer stopped taking 5 minutes to unfreeze) and takes ages to find a connection and before this update I got them in seconds! Jared, fatass are you on Windows 7, Windows XP or MAC? Because I have XP and my friend who use Mac and windows 7 have no problem at all!!!! Tell me what you guys are on please!
