Wow, I love this idea! I will definitely come back to this when I get bored and run out of ideas, and the list of stuff I am building on my world. Bookmarked so I can come back to this page later.Bushes and Diamonds

Ok, well nevermind then. I think that this challenge actually warrants a new world. So I will start a new world and when I get my phone fixed I am going to take a couple of pictures of this and put them up here for someone to look at.
What is it you are looking for? If you just want a website to mess around with that can be arranged. Let me know and I can get something up and running and give you the keys. Just be warned, if you crash the car don't expect me to pay for getting it fixed
I can have my own website that's free to mess around with with HTML/CSS until I master it, but it would be nice if we could have it be less like a forum type thing and more like a website with a main page, and then that spreads off in a huge network of files. So on the main page, there'll be a description, picture, and some links, like Human, Elf, etc. Each link would lead to another page that's specified for that race. Once you are there, you can then go to the simple challenge or the advanced challenges. Because the advanced challenges will have multiple of each race, we should have another page with a bunch of links for that. I could post a picture of a web net whatever thing that is a drawing of the web and its links. I don't really like the idea of having a forum, which is what we have now.
I agree, the forum was a good idea to start with, but I do think this could act very well as a website. I myself and not very good at any technical things regarding websites but I can work with pictures, styles, and text. I am happy everyone is getting back into this!
Well well well. All this talk of mods or modpacks, right as I'm thinking of the same thing. I've been following the city construction challenge for quite some time now, and I had a realization: almost everyone stops the challenge quite early, because they think it's a cool idea but ends up taking too much time and effort. So, I decided I would try to compile a modpack that is focused on the early-game and building stuff, so that people wouldn't be so discouraged. I was also planning on creating a challenge designed around the modpack, compiling ideas from the Refugee to Regent, City Construction, Castle Building, Empire Building, and Fantasy City Build Challenges.
Now, onto my ideas for a modpack. The trouble with making a modpack right now is that most mods haven't been updated to 1.7 yet, and 1.8 is just around the corner. So I'm unsure whether I would want to create a 1.6.4 modpack (many packs have already been made), a 1.7.2 modpack (which this list of mods is for), or just wait for 1.8. Regardless, my current mod list would be:
Jalfje, with most mod authors their concern is distributing. I think, so long as we don't make a huge file, just having a preferred list of mods to mess around with would be quite fun. As for me, I'd like to add Mo' Foods and Crops to the mix simply because it makes gathering food more fun. I'd also wanna add some form of magic mod, whether it be low-key like Xeno's Reliquary or with a full-blown story and clues like Ars Magica, just because the possible defense options are absolutely cool to think about (and it'd give you something to do while you try to gain inspiration for the next build). There are obviously several other mods we can throw in the mix to make it our own experience (or give us more of a goal to work toward).

I don't mean to be unapproachable. I accept critiques and suggestions well, so please, by all means, make as many suggestions as you would like.
That's a pretty good list of mods you've got there Jalf, I'd also add chisel, Which lets you craft tons of different looking blocks out of blocks like you're chiseling different designs into them.
And if you are looking at magic mods then Thaumcraft is a very good one.

I say we have challenges that the player follows, like what we have now, and maybe also add some adventure/survival maps that would have a plot, so for example it would tell us about the main story behind this, which we haven't decided yet, as well as how different races reacted to it, and interaction between different races. So let's say there were these three powerful priests that banished the gods that were ruling the world or whatever. Angels, for example, might be outraged, and would immediately start planning to return the gods. Hobbits would try to protect themselves, humans might be either neutral or try to fight the priests. In all of these, we can have it that the player's old village was destroyed, and is now trying to prosper.
Keep in mind, you may not like this, and I think this is a rather common and very obvious plotline. I'm not thinking of us keeping it, but rather as an example for what I was saying. This way, we could have multiple types of gameplay based on the same thing. Some people will want to do the survival aspect, and some may want to do the adventure aspect of it. This way, the challenge family is appealing to more people, therefor getting us more views, which might be necessary if we want a website, because there's an upkeep cost and so the views could help whoever is paying. I know that last part sounded a bit immoral, but it's the truth if we want to have a good website.
I know there's hardcore questing, but that's survival questing, so I guess we could have that implemented in the modded version, but I'm talking about an actual adventure/survival map, not one that has you collect items. Also, aren't the quests stored in the map file? If someone wanted to use that, wouldn't they have to get a map we uploaded?
Guys, one thing at a time. For to long we have been jumping around from thing to thing and nothing gets done. Challenges. Vanilla Challenges. That is our focus so lets get to work on finishing them before we move onto to other things

Alrighty then, I'll go ahead with the modpack, quests, etc. by myself. I'll just leave you be, but I'll be following along anyway.

Freakin' useful mod (I only use it for SSP!)
I like to play FTB with some additions. Also custom modsets are awesome!
If i remember correctly there was no simple or advanced, there was just different lengths, the difficulties were if you continued to move farther into the challenges but I don't know thats just what I remember.

There's the simple challenges, which are what we had for the first year and a half or so of the challenge, and then there was the advanced challenge, this new concept that (I think) was first put into writing by the Taco, and ever since people were working on it.
There not simple challenges they're just old school, and the new challenges aren't advanced we are just remaking them to be well thought out, play tested, longer and reformatted

Okay, people, I think that I was around since page 39 or something like that. I think I was reading this stuff for a while before, but only posted on page 39 for the first time. That was with the server where we did the human challenge, I think. Wasn't that server called manillacraft or something like that? Anyways, if you know what that server was, please tell me. Oh, I also got the ip for it, but it doesn't seem to be up. Here it is, if you want it:
97.83.39.37
Oh, you might also remember the server (this might be a different one, though) by the explosion sounds of Pure and I using shotguns to fly out of the quarry we made. That was fun lol. Also, on the way to the quarry, there were these half complete dirt spheres. And then we got griefed D:
Blazing, you are correct in remembering that I first threw the 'realism' idea in. So, I should keep working on the Kobold challenge. I think I'll go do that now, actually. And for reals this time
The server we are using now is run by ghost who's part of the team that's the one everyone plays on and its an official FCB server. And I do remember the shotguns XD good times... Is anyone not whitelisted on Ghost's server? And has anyone even heard from him in a while?

Regardless, my current mod list would be:
Forge (and microblocks)
Liteloader (don't know if this is actually required for any of these mods, but for a few others i know it is)
Treecapitator & floating ruins (getting wood is such a pain without advanced tools)
Balkon's weapons (this... does it all - with style!)
Bibliocraft (good-looking storage)
Biomes'o'Plenty
Carpenter's blocks (make anything into doors, stairs, etc. nicer looking cities)
Dungeon pack (exploration is fun)
Inventory tweaks
Minecraft Comes Alive (better villager interactions)
Modular flower pots (again, nicer-looking cities)
Super crafting frame (easy to use instant crafting)
Tinkers construct (great toolmaking system)
Plants mega pack (yet again, nicer-looking cities)
Also a few others that are more of a personal preference but would not be key to the theme of the modpack (e.g. bspkrs mods and presence footsteps)
All of these mods are free to use (not requiring permission from the mod author). I do, however, have a few mods in mind that would require specific permission from the mod author for use in the modpack.
I like to play FTB with some additions. Also custom modsets are awesome!
