Ideas I would like to see in vanilla Minecraft: 1) A grinding machine — similar to a furnace, but breaks down items like a leather tunic into pieces of leather. 2) Recycling — the ability to smelt metal tools and pieces of armor back into their respective ingots. 3) A hammer — used to break down cobblestone into gravel, and gravel into sand. 4) A study — a work bench that takes an enchanted item and a plain book to extract enchantments at the cost of experience.
Well, OP didn't specify whether this on creative or survival, so... TNT CANNON! Bring down a mountain, or make DIY ravines! The possibilities are endless. For extra 's, design your own cannon, rather than getting a design off Youtube.
I doubt there are 101 things with redstone, unless you start listing every latch and flip-flop.
Wrong. Of course there are over 101 things to build with redstone. Now, I'm not going to go to the effort, nor do I have the time and patience required to make a list of them, but just think logically about it. . . There's an endless variety of contraptions that you can create using redstone. No offense intended.
2. Retractable light with lever
3. Self harvesting crop farm.

Kind of useless in single player. But that's not tricky at all, is it?

This isn't related to mechanisms, but I think redstone should be craftable into a decorative block from the dust like lapis is.
