I'd love if you'd make a test world! If you do, will you post about it and tell us about it here? This thread could use some more action and posts, mind you.
Sure, I'll start on it in 10 minutes. It'll be done by 'bout saturday maybe, I have alot of stuff to do on Wednesday and Thursday.
I really don't see how this is helpful. It doesn't show you how to make the farms, it just lists them and shows a picture.
Well, listing them is the point. It's assuming that you'll look up a tutorial (or, more likely, you already know) how to make that farm. That part of the thread is just meant to be a list of things you could put in your base, not tutorials on how to make them. Do you have an idea on how to make the topic more informative? I'm not just trying to be polite and nice, I really would love your feedback.
The rain detector is something I had never seen before. To be honest I'm still not sure how the boat helps detect when the arrow despawns. My best guess would be the arrow fired into the block replaces the boat as the trigger on the plate, when the arrow despawns the boat becomes the new trigger and the change of state is detected by the pressure plate.
Besides indicating rain, one possible use for it I could think of was to turn on additional lighting outdoors to prevent daytime mob spawning in darker areas using the new redstone triggered lights in the snapshot release.
Also something about the design in the video you posted makes me wonder if both plates are really necessary. I'm going to fool around with it.
My (Kind of) Epic base I was inspired after reading this thread and decided to build my very own base. In the long couple of years I've played Minecraft, I never actually have built a "base" per se, just lots of little homes. Tell me what you think about it, but keep in mind, it's still in the VERY early developmental phases so please no too negative criticism. Download link at bottom.

Oh, that video was not posted by me. It was posted by someone else, but I linked to it because it's a very interesting invention. By the way, I love your idea of turning it into a lighting system to prevent daytime mob spawning! Very clever. Let me know what you can rig up.

As for good block combinations, I personally like snow, obsidian, ice, and glowstone BUT YOU ALREADY KNEW THAT. Actually, obsidian goes good with stone bricks and netherbrick, too. Obsidian goes with everything. Obsidian.

Obsidian! Yay! It looks nice, and is evil for CTM maps, because you can't break it easily.
But if obsidian could be pushed with pistons.... *imagines the possibilities*... ah, mapmakers like you could kill us so easily. He-he!
Unfortunately, I haven't seen anyone rockin' the banner except for you and me. Oh well. Maybe someone else will use it, though.
Also, this thread seems to be dying. NOOO! I spent so long on it, only for there to be only 4 pages of replies... will people please reply if they liked the OP? Thanks.
Another thing/building to add to your base is... A graveyard! I know it sounds dumb but it can bring back some fun memories. What i would do is build a fenced off area, add redstone torches or normal torches outside, with mycelium (mushroom biome) grass and then, whenever you or your dog/cat dies, post a sign saying why/when/where/who/what.

Will start building an epic (wich will probably be not that epic but anyway) base starting tomorrow!
It's a very nice topic and i hope it will not die! Cuase that would have been sad.
Haha, I know. However, I did come to your thread recently and saw that a lot more people have been posting! You just have to trust that people will eventually discover and love your maps.

Awesome! I don't care when it's done, as long as it's done at some time. :smile.gif:

I tried it with terrible results. I gave my wife my glasses for a second, a creeper showed up and now my wife is pregnant.
Stupid 3D..

Looks nice! Thanks for posting!
Anyways, real nice guide. Gave me some ideas.
I know, right? The new format derped up the main post. Hopefully they'll fix that soon. I don't want to have to totally re-do the first post.

Yes, obsidian moved by pistons is a frequent fantasy I have. True story.

Think of how I feel. XD
