It really depends on what you're building and choosing materials. You aren't going to build a wool castle are you? :happy.gif: I actually like building with cobblestone :happy.gif:
Wow, glad I saw this topic. There's a lot of really great tips to start working from. Not sure I could have figured out a switch-back staircase like that without a lot of trial and error. It's such a great space saver, and indeed looks wonderful compared to just having a ladder against a wall.
By the way, I love the houses that blend the smooth Stone and the Stone Brick blocks. It creates a very pleasing relief without jarring too much with contrasting colors. It works a lot better than mixing the Stone and Planks, I think.
Maybe we can talk Jeb into implementing the ability to make stairs and slabs out of the various Woods and not just planks. We need more wooden options for decoration. I mean, if stone has Cobble, Smooth, and Brick varieties of everything, we should have the option for Pine or Birch stairs and slabs!
The new structure in question is a completely clean slate. I will definitely still be employing a one-material style for the defensive wall, except I used planks on this. Blast/fire resistance isn't really a huge concern of mine because I don't maniacally set fire to things and I don't feel like I need the creeper protection.
I mostly meant that the wall was all one material, not that it was planks specifically. Single-tone buildings are... blah.

What is this thing you call logic?

I can honestly say I enjoy reading this from time to time, great job :happy.gif: I'm actually pulling some stuff from this to use on my new survival world :happy.gif: Thanks for all your help :happy.gif:
I guess I'll add to this by saying Amazing post! and this is super helpful. After I read this for the first time I made a new world and built my greatest house. Now thats my main world!
Thank you so much. I was always good at stuff like this, but my friends' hovels were always dirt-floored cubes. Now they can be awesome too!

stealacquire some of these ideas. However, your showcase pics seem to be broken.Yeah, putting spoilers inside spoilers doesnt seem to work well. Ill fix it eventually.
Do they work if you click them?
I completely disagree. Cobble might be easy to get but I like the way it looks
Main entrance (well, there is only one entrance..)
A shot taken from a corner of the wall
Floor 1 - Still kinda empty though
Wine cellar
Floor 2
Bedroom 1 out of 2
