I'm impressed. I poured at least half that much time into farming trees for apples and walked with maybe 3 or 4 stacks. I wish I knew how you did it, because I have another 104 stacks to go.
I'm not the one in charge of the server, so I hope she didn't put on a apple plugin of some sort.
I'm not the one in charge of the server, so I hope she didn't put on a apple plugin of some sort.
Who knows . . . what I do know is that taking down a dozen trees is liable to generate 2 or 3 apples on a good day.
Also, jungle saplings have a pretty painfully low drop rate, for the difficulty in cutting down their trees. I was trying to get a good sense by harvesting a chunk of jungle, but I had poor results. One issue is that I seem to get a lot of regular saplings from jungle leaves, as WELL as jungle saplings. I haven't figured that one out yet.
I'm hesitant to even start, since I have a nagging feeling that in two or three updates, jungle trees will drop cocoa beans the way regular trees drop apples.
New discovery; ferns are now back in the world gen. The bad news? Ferns are annoyingly hard to find, and cannot be farmed with bonemeal. The good news? The new jungles seem to have them in . . . somewhat ample supply. I do not suspect they will be too hard to find, though seeking them out can be annoying. As such, it is getting added back on the collector list. I will have to take care of that tonight though, as I am headed to class at the moment.
It isn't too bad with the ferns as you can run along the jungle floor with a bunch of shears removing the leaves, tall grass and ferns all at once.
On another note, is it cheaty of me to use MCNostalgia to go back and harvest and truckload of ice, it really is quite the building material and great for item transport.
Also, how about making new worlds to get another dragon egg and bring it back to storage for ego-boosts. I'm currently using a newly generated world so that the jungle biomes will spawn.
I don't see any issue with playing different worlds, though I do object to playing different versions (snapshots excluded). I am actually currently running three worlds, my old original, which had my Kiershar grinder for some mob drops, my new world, which is my primary hub, and a post-1.1 world, which has a jungle for gathering a few jungle items so I can seed them in my hub world.
I'm not so sure about the dragon eggs, though you could use them for some cool decorations. As for collecting? That would be an exercise in futility, I think.
Well okay then! Some significant progress has been made. I just finished collecting an entire chest of ALL of the currently available music discs, plus an addition one of each for my vault. Thats TEN items to check off my list! Whoo!
Also, moving magma cream to mob drops, from alchemy.
You should finish the Chicken related goals. Getting a full double chest of Raw chicken takes me about 12 hours. So maybe, 3-4 days and it could be done.
What the HELL are you doing right? I'm not getting nearly this much efficiency out of any set-up I try. I've spent about 12 hours total, and I think I MAY be approaching 9 stacks (a 6th of a chest).
This and the apples, I would love to know how you guys are doing it. For instance, I just chopped down a tree farm with about 50 trees in it and got 9 apples. It took about 10 minutes to cut and let the leaves decay. Ignoring growth time, to get the two double chests necessary, that would take FIVE days of cutting and decay. And as I said, that is to say nothing of the growth time.
Perhaps you should leave your comp collecting eggs over large periods then spawn more chickens and massacre them. Use a flame aspect sword that has a low enough damage to do 1.5 hearts to a chicken so it dies from the fire. A row of dispensers hooked up to a clock to dispense all the eggs.
If you had a full inventory of eggs(576) you'll get about 72 chickens which you can then add half from breeding so you then have 108, and half 162. Rinse repeat, just do all your breeding then come back in half an hour from doing something else to do more breeding and collect eggs to spawn more chickens to kill.
I've been doing something similar, though I'm using more chickens than that. I end up with around 200 chickens per run, but the wait time is pretty bad, and they cause a TON of lag while still alive. Problem is, I can't leave them alone because if their chunks despawn, they don't grow up, but I can't stay near them, because they cause lag.
Either way, I'm definitely not getting 3456 chickens in 12 hours. The fire sword and clock dispenser would save some time, but those aren't taking a lot as it is, its the wait time for the chicks to grow, and then waiting for more eggs.
Do you turn your clouds, fog, lighting and graphics down and then turn away from them? That really helps when dealing with heavy amounts of mobs. I have jungle saplings, logs and leaves imported into my main world now so I can continue farming at base but I may stick around to shear off more leaves, vines and ferns.
Oddly enough, my system can run at a high rate for quite a while, but once it gets bogged down with too many mobs or something like that, turning off the high graphic options doesn't seem to help.
Either way, maybe I just need to take these things in moderation. A bit here and a bit there, while I work on other things.
EDIT: I realized I had finally developed a good backstock of cobble again, so I finished cobblestone stairs.
Ahh, some good progress being done.
Finished vines, ferns, fence gates, and clay brick half-blocks! Still a miserable amount of clay remaining for brick stairs, but I am getting there, finally.

I am suspecting that some major future problems for me will be: Spider eyes (and fermented spider eyes), jungle saplings (due to a low drop rate), apples, and fish.
Spider Eyes are no problem, the ability to find spawners close to each other allows high efficiency traps to be made to gather high amounts of spiders.
How on earth did you gather 3456 ferns? They're really not that common.
Also, you may need to add dead shrubs to your list.
I built a cave spider spawner, but believe me, its tremendously slow going.
Also, and I cannot account for WHY, but automated spawners don't seem to drop spider eyes. My old Kiershar trap . . . I let it run for a few minutes, ended up with 20 string and NO spider eyes.
I scoured two jungles worth; I actually cleared a jungle of them.
Dead shrubs don't seem to be harvestable. If they are, let me know, and how.
EDIT: Not five minutes after this post, I finished glass bottles.
EDIT AGAIN!: Well, I figured out the spider-eye thing. Only kills made by the player cause them, so they are not grindable by traps. Perhaps a trap where you deliver the killing blow, but cave spiders are so small I'm having a hard time figuring out a way to hit them without them hitting me.

Alright . . . I finally resolved the cave spider issue. The secret was glass panes; I had been struggling because I could not find a way to get clear and easy access to hit them without them being able to hit me.
Tragically, I don't feel like rigging up any sort of auto-damaging system, so I still need to, for the most part, manually kill each of them. The implications of this are horrendous; assuming a drop rate of 50%, I have to kill approximately 14000 spiders by hand. My spawner is set up so that they have a tendency to take a heart or so of fall damage, but whether this is helping much, I can't say. Its going to be a long time in the making.
I know there was a large discussion about moving worlds when 1.0 came. Are any of you planning on doing so again since the new generator? especially since jungles will not generate in old worlds.

I will have to; the biome of my current base is ruined. I was halfway done building my new fortress, and half of it turned desert, half snow. Not much better, about 50 blocks away was a snow biome which is now a desert biome, mixing snow with brownish grass.

Ugh, progress. Good progress, but frustrating. As my previous posts indicated, I finished glass bottles. But in addition to that, I finished blaze rods and OBSIDIAN. Then, figuring I'd never have to go to my fortress and the End again (thats a total lie, thats where I will get my enderpearls), I finished stone brick half-blocks.
