I have explored about 4 nether fortresses in my world and the only things I have found in them is nether warts and Blaze spawner's. The netherbrick can be useful for decoration, but I don't pay much attention to decoration. The blaze spawner's don't even have chests around them (or im just unlucky and never found any) Nether warts are useful, but when you find them you find enough for a minecraft lifetime. Do nether fortresses have anything useful?

Good use of a diamond sword.

1) use diamond sword on sheep
2) collect wool and ignore corpse.

It's like Lego, but occasionally a terrorist sneaks in through your window and blows all of your **** to hell.
Blaze rods are needed to get to the End, and netherwart is the base ingredient for potions. So yes.
Like I said, one nether wart patch is enough, and they are so common. Yes they are useful but I have so much already. And Like I said again, I find enough blazes roaming around, without a spawner. The spawner is just trouble, and not worth it without any reward after defeating it.
Roaming around where? I was under the impression that they specifically spawned only over netherbrick, and therefore you would need to visit a nether fortress to find any.
You know, roaming around over the huge long pathways on top of the nether fortresses maybe?

I wish I could find a nether fortress. I have two full release worlds that I've explored in the nether for quite a ways around my portal and still none in sight. I'm starting to think I may need to completely dump my jar, re-download and start over. I certainly hope not. :sad.gif:

If you find one that is mostly covered in Netherrack, turn it into an XP farm where you can stand in a narrow doorway and strike at them as they come down. Set it up so that they can't be level with your head so you have to strike at their feet (or rather body since Blazes don't have feet). They can only hit you with their fireballs if their head has a clear line of sight to you.
How exactly would any of those things end up in the Nether? I think it'd be very out of place to find chests there
Past explorers, ancient civillizations, many possible explanations. Plus, that's the normal dungeon rewards so it'd make sense. That, or chests with something unique in, like extra potion ingredients or something.
Except for the blaze rods and netherwart required for potions, which give you powers beyond anything thought possible, no, they are completely useless.

Golden swords are useless. They do the damage of wood, have half the durability, and are yellow.
I have quite a bit of trouble simply finding a nether fortress, and it always seems they are incredibly difficult to reach. By this I mean the bottom level with bridges is at around 2/3 of the height of the nether, and they are not connected to any other land mass, in the nether. Just floatin out in a sea of lava.
Is this unusual? I've just gotten used to carrying 6 stacks of cobble at all times and building bridges like David Steinman. Seriously.
Blaze spawners make really good EXP farms. Even if you can't be bothered to build an elaborate system so you can kill them all with 1 punch, all you need to do is make some potions of fire resistance and their fireballs become harmless and you can easily diamond sword them to death.
I think they are useful because of all the Blaze rods and Powder you can get from the Blazes and their spawners. And the forts can contain Nether Wart used for Brewing and there are some Lava Sources scattered around the fort (If you Ever want a lava source for a project and are to lazy to go find Lava or track down lava source blocks in the Nether).

Yeah but I find enough roaming around.

For the third time, I find them roaming around the nether fortress, and the spawners are not worth it if they have no reward.

Also they make good bases in the nether of course.

I tried it with terrible results. I gave my wife my glasses for a second, a creeper showed up and now my wife is pregnant.
Stupid 3D..
Everytime i log on, i expect to see my warn status go up.
Use AMIDST http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/626786-v2016-amidst-strongholds-village-biome-ect-finder/ and set it to find nether fortress, it will give you the coordinates, but obviously no map since the nether is one big biome.

To tell them how to live is to prevent them living.

And blaze rods are required to brew any potions at all.
Maybe the people who made the Nether Fortresses left them.
