I wanted to make an obsidian farm so I can always make more obsidian when ever I want. While I was making it, I want to have an iffinate lava source since I don't want to go up and down from my cave's lava lake every time I'm filling up the farm with lava. I made a 2X2X3 hole near the farm and filled it with lava.Every time I go get lava from the new hole, the lava starts going down. Do you know how to keep it from doing this?
Ireally wish that since they got rid of INF lava source, that they would get rid of the "residue" it leaves when you get rid of the/a source. It gets annoying to clear an area just to fall into a 1/8 block of lava and nearly die. /:

It goes away, you know. It just takes a few minutes, which is like a day.

YEAfound that out the hard way when I tried to exploit the residue as lighting, I used two buckets of lava to have about a 1/4 block of lava the entire length of this massive hallway, left for about 2-3 game days and it was all gone. All these near deaths in lava and I still use it as lighting through 90% of my mines(doesn't work so well with wood floors). P:
I know about the pool for a long time, and there's redstone ore all the way in the other side of the pool. I was saving the pool for later when I found it. Besides, how many portals do you really need anyways? I'm just making the farm just in case I need more obsidian, even though I already have like 39 of it left..
If you just want a way to get a lot of obsidian easily, there's a way to turn redstone into obsidian by placing running water next to the redstone and allowing lava to flow over the redstone.
That pool of lava is like around 15 blocks long and my farm I was making is smaller and it's almost done. So it'll be a long time for that pool to run out. By the time it does run out, I had already been to the Nether, where I can get as much lava I want without having to worry about getting into a cave to get it. But Ghasts can pose a problem though.....
If you just want it for the obsidian, I think there's an InfObsidian glitch you can do with Redstone, but I've got no idea how it works. There's also the possibility that blacksmith villagers will have Obsidian trades, but I'm not sure.
Either search out lava pools, or go to the Nether.
