Well, anyone who played since earlier versions of the game and is a bit like me, will remember the excitement of discovering cocoa beans in that dungeon chest, as they were very rare and meant you would have cookies!
In my opinion finding cocoa beans was probably the most awesome loot you could get in dungeons, because everyone loves cookies! Since 1.3 you can now find cocoa beans in Jungle biomes, which is great!
When I heard about it, I thought, "Hey, that's cool! Now I won't have to find a dungeon!".
But I imagined Cocoa would be found from 0 to 3 beans in a Jungle, which would mean its easier to find, but still rare... I think it should have been that way, as now cocoa is found almost in every tree, in every jungle...
Cocoa is, in my opinion, an item that should stay at least semi-rare...
If you find it and farmed it, great, good for you,it means cookies! It means you can sell cookies to others in your server and maybe be the famous "Cookie seller"!
Another case like this would be clay, used to be super rare, you got all exited with it, and now is probably like the 5th more common resource on the surface!
But well, you got my point, I believe cocoa beans should be at least a bit rarer.
Do you share this view with me?
totally agree on coal, but brick is made from clay and there wasnt even enough to make roofs unless you wandered a lot (at least from what i remember.) however, i do think cocoa should be on 1 of every 20 trees max. theres no need to make it a one-and-done trip.

if you think about it, cookies dont really satisfy much of your hunger... So they don't really need to be that rare.. But I know what you mean when the old times cocoa beans were awesome to find

'Because it used to be' isn't really a valid reason. Whether they are awesome or not (they are quite awesome) they are pretty useless. Even with how common they are, it is much easier and effective to make a pig farm than a cookie farm. Cookies only replenish 1 hunger, and it takes quite a while to eat 10 cookies.
Yeah, cookies replenish 1 hunger, but you get EIGHT cookies per batch!
In my private server, I managed to obtain just over 2 stacks of cocoa beans with very low effort just using this farm:
(Notice the cocoa beans in the hotbar)
Just combine that with a good wheat farm and you have unlimited cookies!
Not to mention that this is MUCH less frustrating than trying to lasso pigs into a pen using wheat...
Is there any reason for cocoa to be rare? Or are you just one of those "back in my day cocoa used to mean something" people? Cocoa being common harms absolutely nobody. At all.
And did you ever stop to think that maybe- just maybe- cocoa isn't common for the purpose of making cookies? There are people who like to dye huge amounts of wool for creative purposes. And previously, making anything with brown wool en masse was a daunting task.

If people want to dye wool for creative purposes... well, you may have forgotten that there IS a gamemode for that... It's called creative,
I do want cocoa beans to be rarer, and farms shouldn't be that easy to make. Cocoa beans should only be able to be grown a good amount from the ground, like they grow on jungle trees... I never really used cookies but it was a good feeling to give them out to everyone :)... Because they were rare.
Nah. They're fine. 0-3 cocoa beans per jungle? You do realize how large jungles are, right? That's making cocoa beans underpowered
They wouldn't actually be underpowered at all, if you compared the to what used to be, non-farmable and found in dungeon only. Not looking to the past though, they would be about as rare as melons are, which are found in only some chests located in mineshafts. Once you get the seeds though, you get tons of them in no time! It would be the same for cocoa.
BTW, Jungles can appear in all sizes, unless of course, you are using the new large biomes...
Some people like the challenge of making huge pixel arts in survival.
On subject I believe that making cocoa beans slightly rarer wouldn't hurt but it's good that there is finally a way to farm them. On another note let me pose a question. If cocoa beans had always been this common would you be posting a thread to make them rarer? Just some food for thought.
Probably not... I do have a thread on cookies being overpowered though...

Exactly! What difference would it make to start out with 3 cocoa beans then to start out with 20? Not much, to be honest.
Indeed. All the difficulties in farming any plant is obtaining the first few seeds. After that they don't mean anything anymore. If the only reason for wanting less cocoa beans is that you want something rare to work for, then perhaps we can strike a deal with Jeb to add an item that appears very rarely in dungeons and have no use whatsoever except that it is just rare.
Then those seeking rareness gets something to look for, while the rest of us can avoid the tedious random number generator grind. Best of both worlds!
Cookies are much faster to farm than pigs. 1 pig every 5 minutes (plus the several days you have to wait for each pig to grow into an adult) as opposed to 1 cookie per 2 wheat and 1 cocoa bean. Much faster. I made 30-40 cookies in 3 minecraft days (without bonemeal). I can only get (starting from 2 adult pigs) at the most, 12 porkchops in that time (4 pigs). Plus you don't have to cook cookies, so there's no loss of coal or other means of cooking.

Cookies don't, cocoa does. It started this update.
I am ninja'd far too often.

Just joking.
It doesn't make any difference, but what does it FINDING them.
