Hey,
I play single player. i play vanilla. so far ,I am not bored yet, still learning the game. why did they stop giving me my **** back when i die? that is too hard core for me. I started the game getting my **** back, why did they do that? why no let you opt in or out of functions. I lost so much **** this week. thought it was the mobs and lava stealing my crap. some one in another link said it was an upgrade. to me , it is a down grade!! is there a way to un-upgrade the upgrade?
Wait what are you talking about? If you are fast enough you should be able to recover your items where you died. Although I have noticed that some items do seem to permenantly disappear. But maybe I wasn't looking hard enough.
Who's "they"?
If you're saying that you don't get your stuff back when you die, it's been that way from the beginning. Unless you fell into lava, your stuff should be on the ground where you died.
oh, snap! I have been getting killed in my mines lately. the first one was lava , that I get, no stuff. so. I went back with more tools, but no armor. was not watching my hunger, and a creeper got too close, and I forgot my armor was not on and hunger was down. BOOM! yada yada, dead. but then got lost for awhile getting back, all the stuff was gone. ****! that is good to know , but damn! I cannot keep from getting lost .I now have so many mines cutting into branches etc, I have ten thousand torches ,still took and hour to get out. I have to find a way to mark stuff, where I died was a new ravine I found with tons of ore and ****. have not found it again yet. left a crafting table there , too! I have not died in a very handy spot in awhile so, did not know about the five minute rule, explains a lot, and , I have to stop believing everything I read LOL!

the "they" was , an unrelated query on another subject, but the OP mentioned losing your stuff, was a new upgrade , which, at the time explained where my **** went, because I happened to force an update the other day, I read it fixes the ocelots. I like your answer better!

while a bit of a "noob question" you may have a good idea.. a mod that gives you the option to keep your inventory after death.
Why not go suggest it on the mods section?

Are youbored of minecraft? It's not the new features. I'll give you a hint:It's the terrain generation. Go play a map generated in 1.7.3 or earlier, then tell me you don't agree.

It is a "noob question, because, I am what you call "a noob"! I only suggested an opt in or out because I had thought they removed it. hardcore might need this, but then would not be hard core. I need to get back to where i died faster. I am still getting lost , too easy. that is why i don' t have the balls to step throught my portal. get lost too easy. I am learnign everyday.

Not sure if a mod exactly like that exists, but I do know of one called Death Chest. It places all of your inventory in a chest on the block you died on, that way it doesn't despawn, at the very least.

The idea is to remain in a state of constant departure, while always arriving. Saves on introductions and goodbyes.

ACTUALLY, technically not a mod itself, but If you get Singleplayer commands and use the /keepitems cheat, you keep your items upon death.

Items burn on lava. So you can't get them
