Are you ready for the thrill, the pulse pounding excitement, of MUSHROOM RACER?
In this action packed two player sport it's mano-a-mano, mushroom-a-mushroom.
The rules are simple. Each player plants their mushroom at the start of their row. Then you wait for it to reproduce. Then you wait for its offspring to reproduce. Then you wait for it's offspring's offspring to reproduce, and so on.
Whoever's mushrooms reaches the end of the row first wins! Rows can be made any length, for longer or shorter games! More rows for more players! Play while you do other more productive tasks elsewhere! High stakes gambling on the outcome encouraged!
Impressive your friends with an overly complicated redstone alert system to record who wins if there's no witnesses!
P.S. Mushrooms hate the sun! Make sure to put a roof on it if it's outdoors.
On your mark, get set, goomba!
P.P.S.
If you're no good with redstone, you also just make the track do this instead to automatically record who won:
Whichever mushroom grows onto the center block at the end first wins.
P.P.P.S.
For a more interactive mushroom race try these exciting variant game modes:
Mushroom Racer: Combat Gauntlet
In this game two players race their mushrooms in a large dark room (or outside at night). Monsters spawn in the far edges of the room and eventually wander closer and fight the players. Victory occurs in one of three ways:
1) A mushroom wins the race
2) One player is killed by monsters
3) A creeper damages one of the mushroom tracks in a way that it's impossible for those mushrooms to win
Defend yourself and your fungi! Attacking your opponent directly is forbidden, luring creepers near them and their shrooms is encouraged!
Make the game even more action packed by having a mob trap deposit a steady stream of monsters nearby.
Mushroom Racer: Gatherer Mode
In this single player version it's man versus mushroom. You plant one mushroom (brown or red) on the enemy AI track, then you go hunting for naturally occurring mushrooms of the other color. You have to find enough wild mushrooms and return to fill up your own seperate track before the opponent mushrooms can grow to the end. Might be best played on SMP with the mushroom track left in a populated area so the chunk stays loaded even if you go exploring far away.
And here's a two player version of Gatherer Mode!
Mushroom Racer: Competitive Gatherer Mode
You and your human opponent both race mushrooms, but you can speed up your own mushrooms' progress by finding wild mushrooms of the same color and adding them to your track rather than just waiting for them to grow. Best played with longer tracks.
I'm going to play this in SMP. Only it'll be more intense. I'll put blocks in the middle, allowing the mushrooms to cut each other off. It'll be 100 blocks long, and there will be 20 players. I think it could use more grass though.

No you didn't, because TNT damage doesn't stack.
See my About Me section for info about me.

Sounds exciting!
Screw mario cart, this is way better.
I suppose you could rig pistons at the end to push on top of the blocks every 30 seconds or so... If a mushroom lands at the end it'll get pushed off onto a pressure pad showing the score. Dunno if the piston updating the ending block every 30 seconds would reset the timer that tells when to spawn a mushroom though.

I forsee... lots of forum bitching about slow updates... then... yes, I can see it all now... even more forum bitching about tiny glitches... and, and... possibly a new mob, which will drop something that will also be bitched about...
THIS IS GREAT for my next smp money making scheme after the damn admin closed down my strip club it was shut down for "profanity" (I'm serious I got paid in iron and sometimes diamond) man I'm goin to be rich now outside of spawn I need to make another billboard (by another I mean I used one for my cart racing scheme)

Actually, it doesn't need blocks in the middle, you could even put it on either side of a wall and they could still grow on each others' path. They also don't have to grow only on the adjacent block, they'll spread on squares up to a few blocks away.

"It's a walk in the park. A very scary park, filled with monsters who are trying to kill me.
Operation 'Will Most Likely End Badly' is a go."

How would one go about this?
