So I started a creative world earlier, chucking eyes of ender to find a stronghold, dig straight down to it, go to the end, those of you who've been know you spawn on a little 5x5 obsidian platform placed, like everything else, randomly. Well I got to the end and my little platform was floating out in the middle of nowhere, more than a dozen blocks away from the actual land mass of the end. So I whip out some obsidian and start building a bridge and sure enough, dragon swoops in and sends me sailing into the night. Now you're probably thinking, 'big deal, it's creative. You can just fly.'
What if it hadn't been in creative mode? Suppose for a minute I'd actually been playing hardcore mode. Legitimately playing, spent a few weeks, gathering the resources to build the weapons and armor that would allow me to survive, find a stronghold, gather enough eyes of ender to open the gate, I get there, and I'm totally screwed. I can't make it to land, can't kill the dragon 'cause I can't reach most (if any) of the crystals, can't stand there swinging forever because I'll eventually starve, and if I take my eyes off the dragon long enough to build a bridge, I get punted into the dark, all my work gets deleted, and there is nothing I can do about it.
My way of saying it is, Your right that would suck if it was, but the thing is, it wasn't, and hey, theres a 1 in a million chance you get that stronghold anyway :wink.gif:

Am I the only one that sees this as a problem?
i know just what you are talking about. i made it to the end earlier today and i was blasted by the enderdragon to my death just like that. but i thought that it may be possible to build a wall quickly enough to duck next to so that when the dragon comes to strike there is something preventing you from falling. i know the enderdragon can destroy blocks by touching them, so im not completely sure it will work. i havent been able to test it yet since i am still recovering from the first 2 losses. if that doesnt work then i guess the only thing left to try would be to make a really good agility potion and jump to the main land
Careful of what? I'm talking about a random spawn point created by the game. There was essentially no way off the thing without 'cheating.'
Adding walls on your bridge to catch you from falling off will help. Those walls might also keep the Enderdragon from seeing you, therefore making it more likely to reach the landmass.
The End is supposed to be a challenge. You should never expect it to be just handed to you. You plan for what you can imagine, learn from what has happened, and improvise for something new. If you can't handle any of those, then The End isn't for you. Look at it this way, yes you just died from getting swept off a bridge. Yes it is going to take some work to get back to that point. What bridge you built is still going to be there, making it all the easier to get across to the landmass.
It is a lot the same as coming out of a portal in the Nether floating above a lava ocean. With ghasts likely to see you at any moment, you best get yourself a bridge across, or at least a stone structure built around the portal before you get blown off into the lava.

The Enderdragon doesn't destroy obsidian, so bring a few stacks of that along.

In the real world, you stick your head in the dirt to hide from problems.
In Minecraft, you stick your head in the dirt to find problems.
Bring food, your entire supply of obsidian, full diamond armor, and a bow. Fill the rest of your inventory with arrows. The dragon shouldn't be much of a problem if you are well prepared.
Getting to the portal it drops could be a challenge, though.
If you go through the portal with diamond armor, some healing potions, some food, some obsidian.. you should be okay. As soon as you exit, build an obsidian fence around the portal so you don't get knocked off, the diamond armor should be more than enough protection for until you get to land.. shoot the crystals with your awesome archery skills you've honed from getting to The End on Hardcore. Snowballs damage the dragon a half heart, (400 to kill unfortunately) but fire faster than its hit recovery. It's not unwinnable, but, it is the final boss of Minecraft. You beat that, you win. It's MEANT to be damn hard.

Except that you can't reach every crystal on the island from one point out in space, so the dragon just flies away and regenerates.
It's not about it being hard, it's that there's a chance of it being impossible and once you're there, there's no way out.

I guess I overestimated the average age of the Minecraft forums. Goodnight, kids.

it's not like you can't just respawn and go do something else if you can't kill the dragon so i don't get what your deal is?
Then it wouldent be Hardcore mode if your doing it over and over again! D:
