All of the passive mobs are too stupid to react to anything, so they leave you alone no matter what.
Zombies are just mindless undead people who know nothing but their basic instincts to get sustenance.
Skeletons were once proud archers who were well trained in ranged combat. Now undead, they think you are the enemy, and strike from cover when it is available.
Spiders are cunning and know that they have an advantage in the dark, so they leave you alone in the light.
Zombie Pigmen have the passiveness of a pig but the intellect of a man, so they know how to defend their selves. Otherwise, you do not perceived as a threat.
Ghasts don't want anything alive on their turf, so they shoot at you.
I don't really understand Creepers. They seem smart enough, so why do they suicide bomb random people, unprovoked? Maybe they're unhappy about not having arms?
I know that they haven't been added yet, but I think that Endermen don't want their existence to be known, so when you look at them, they freeze and try to blend in, but when you look away, they try to kill you because you are a witness.
What are your thoughts on this? Was I wrong about anything? Did I leave anything out?
Edit: Oh ya! Slimes know when they are too small to win, or big enough to kill you.
Wolves are loyal to their pack until you tame them, at which point they are loyal to you.
The story for slimes could be that they were once another race that was even with the humans, but a evil human used magic to turn them all into blobs since he didn't like competition. Now, they attach any human they can, but the small ones are harmless. Not sure why they split then though...maybe a flaw in the spell?
I think that endermen don't actually know your there, that is until you look at one, and use minecraft logic to find out your there, in which time they come over and eat you, while creepers are dependant on eachother, sacrificing itself in order to let the others feed, just what I think

Well, going off that, I suppose the splitting instead of dying if you don't do enough damage could be some kind of defence mechanism? And perhaps a little way down or up the timeline, the slimes could have gained or lost the ability to recombine themselves? Just some thoughts.
