Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, an opinion cant be awful. Its an opinion. Its your opinion that his opinion is awful.

Not to my knowledge, however, it wouldn't be impossible, just rather difficult, something like that could easily be done in multiplayer though, provided you had enough people and the right plugins.
I haven't really thought too much about the complexity of it... My general idea on my server would be to setup a path (say fences or just a ditch) with a mob spawner tower of some sort at one end and a player would stand at the other end.
The player(s) would spend time building dispensers and filling with arrows and setup redstone to wire to a pressure plate at the end where the player would stand as well as to the doors to the mob spawner tower.
When ready, the player would stand on the pressure plate and activate everything (including whatever delays are setup) so that the mobs would be carried via a water current (that's either activated or part of the mob tower) down the path.
If the mobs are all killed w/o the player dying, victory!
I tried once. . With SDK's guns . I put sentries down an obsidian pathway, and spawned zombies using SPC. I flew back to the start and let the zombies ride on the water current. It was fun to watch. BLAM BLAM BLAM BLAM BLAM BLAM BLAM. Poor zombies.
It would be really easy because mobs are pretty dumb and easy to stop/kill with even basic defenses. Once people build up, nothing is going to get through (unless they are just horrible at defenses)
So what I'm thinking is to make the playing field with one point that you have to defend, and put a counting system there which counts how many mobs reach it and after a certain number you lose.
Give people a resource kit which consists of a limited number of items. Can't dig or gather more stuff, just additive building. Can use your kit to make whatever defense you want, but it should be balanced out so that it is hard to make it a perfect defense.

Ooooh I like the idea of a resource kit with limited resources to build the defenses.
The counting system is interesting...at first I was thinking that I'd either have TNT blow up at the end if mobs got to it or just have the player stand at the end and try to weather the mobs that get through w/their fists :biggrin.gif:
If you use mob spawners, the size of the path will be limited by the fact that the spawners only spawn mobs when the player is nearby. This is assuming that the player serves as the main defense, firing arrows at mobs from a tower. In this case we should probably use a dark spawning pad and fill in all caves using McEdit. This will result in a constant stream of mobs advancing toward the goal.
I like the idea of automating towers with redstone triggers, but they need to be balanced, so that the player's skill is the main deciding factor in the outcome of the game. Perhaps we could add a little bit of micromanagement craziness by making TnT traps manually activated or some strategy and resource management by limiting ammo (TnT and arrows).
I think this is a very doable project, by one person even, and could turn out to be a very fun game.
Here is the problem most people are not seeing. Just because you have a mob spawner doesn't mean the mob will automatically run towards the end of the path. Given the large path of it.
You need to code the mobs to follow that path alone without disturbing the game balance of other mobs within the general vicinity. More than likely would required a mod to accomplish this so that your towers are not being surrounded by not only mobs from the inside of the path, but from the outside. Thus making mods make new mobs/differently coded mobs.
That and the fact that a tower defense would require some other sort of mod if you plan to have different speeds and how fast you want to build them and how fast you want the mobs to spawn. There is a lot to consider for this.
It's by no means impossible and I'm sure somebody is achieving this and perfecting it now, but it will come as a mod, and not just something you randomly build with red-stone and hope the mob will just walk down the path if your way the hell out of range of it.
If the mob has aggression on you, then it will DIRECTLY come towards you, regardless of whats in the way. Meaning, if the path is not straight, the mob will either be blocked off by a small cliff or just a build tower in the way.
It's a matter of how you code and properly execute this mod.
And as for SMP's, it's still debatable, but I don't see a problem with this unless the owner just has a bad server host, or other various reasons.
Lets take a look shall we?

Nope, not at all. It would take MCEdit, your copy of Minecraft, and 1-3 hours.
You'd need monster spawners and towers. Seriously, how is that hard, let alone impossible?
You put some zombie\skelly\spider mob spawners, Make some walls, Build a tower, Put bow and arrows and play.

I actually recall seeing a forum post showing off a mod that lets you spawn npc troops to defend your castle. I forgot the name though.
