I don't think that's the bug he's referring to. I think he was talking about instances like having a tree grow while you're in its space. That way it pushes you out of the blocks and prevents you from suffocating.
I think notch was speaking in general terms of, if you're player is stuck inside a wall (be it from a tree, falling sand, or other) you will be
pushed toward an opening.
Honestly, standing partially inside a wall is pretty much possible in any 3D game, since they all use a similar collision format known as AABB or Axis Aligned Bounding Box. No real solution to prevent it.
SOE dumped millions upon millions of dollars and probably about a million man hours to create SWG (A $60 game with a $15/mo sub fee) and it had probably 100x more bugs. Eventually most of them were ironed out soon after release. The game was a huge success until a very poor decision was made in 2005 to alter gameplay.
Want to know how many games launch bug-free? None. Notch is a lone man here. He doesn't have a fleet of 100 developers/QA members etc. I think it's quite impressive in my opinion.

"stable enough" isn't "Stable"
If Guild Wars 2 released with lots of bugs, people would be pissed - ESPECIALLY at it's $60 price tag. I know Minecraft is supposedly an "indie" game. I also know it's only about $22 (US) for the beta. I'm not bitching about that. I just think it would be nice if ALL the bugs were fixed before introducing new features. 1.5_03 would be a nice step. Fix any remaining bugs, call it 1.5_04. Get all the bugs fixed, THEN add more features. Wash, rinse, repeat.
I'd rather have more content than have Notch worry about the fact that a players arm looks like it's going through the wall when crouching, standing on a ladder, and facing backwards...

Really? Then what about the bug where if you're riding a saddled pig on a jukebox in a winter biome while holding iron ore and wearing chainmail, there is a chance of the sky turning a very light shade of cyan for a few seconds? I am really getting sick of these game breaking bugs being ignored by Notch in favour of gimmicky and useless features like minecart boosters and maps.

Have you not seen the list of employees at Mojang? Notch isn't a lone programmer. In fact, I'm on the verge of saying Minecraft is no longer an indie game, aside from that marketing, sales, production and everything is in-house. But then, there's plenty of non-indie games like that. Most games don't actually have more than 20 people who have ever done programming work. At that, the teams(or team members) rotate, so there's less than that working on it at any given time.
There's at least 9 people involved with Minecraft, of which only two are non-development of the game itself. Don't get me wrong, Management are important to a company. Still, Not just one man on a lone crusade.

Wow. So none of you realized that the trailer wasn't even made in Minecraft? The lack of version info on the upper right corner should be the first clue. In every other official teaser for features you could see the version info. Even if it was made in minecraft, the video was not made by Mojang,so any bugs wouldn't be representative of Notch.

I like how that link shows how all 9 people work on Minecraft.
Oh wait...
Jeb was Notch's main help and he is currently moved to a different project. I'm not saying notch is alone either, but don't act like he has a huge team doing his coding and developing. He's still doing the majority himself. Regardless to if you choose to believe it or not.

if you look in the video when he is holding the map it says "Test"
since looking by twitter of notch, he started developing 1 week before the update.
It couldn't possibly that he wasn't reporting on his twitter/tumblr what he was doing, no, he waited until a week before release...
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Notch on his twitter: "bugs that feel wrong get fixed"
Do not get attached to your saves, seriously, stuff like this has happened before, if there's something you love and really want to build...Wait for release.

Okay, so that ONE part of the video was recorded in 1.6. I could go on and on about why the other part of the video was decidedly not recorded in vanilla Minecraft, but I don't think that I need to. Please don't prove me wrong on that.

you use video editing software to add filters and you click F1 to remove the bottom part and the version number :biggrin.gif:
note to all the "LOLOL NOOB BE PATIENT STOP SAYING BAD THINGS ABOUT MEINKRAFT"
you are totally missing the point here. so many of you jump at any bad thing said about minecraft or notch, its just sad. if someone complains that powered minecarts are not working for example, its not because he disses notch and wants things quickly. he wants to improve the game. believe me, the moment the game stops working for you, you will join the legions of the complainers. ive already seen it happen though updates 1.3 to 1.5 and at the failed updates like version 1.2.3_02 alpha which caused computer to gray screen. the biggest enemy of a video game developer are these who jump at any complainer trying to stop him. thats because no complaining = no data of flaws in the game = no fixing. even if it can turn out to be a simple error, you can never know but the maker. the pig at the tralier could have been just being frozen by notch, or it could be a bug in the pathing system that causes all mobs to have no AI at all. so next time you flame a complainer, think about this.

Complaining repeatedly about the same thing =/= bug reporting. I think that point you're missing is that the game hasn't been released as a finished product yet- its still in Beta. This destroys the argument "no other big commercial game would be released with this many bugs". The game is being actively developed and fixed, so the only thing you are complaining about is the amount of time it takes.
By the way, your spelling and grammar is horrendous.

many people complain about something = developer knows changing it should be a higher priority
minecraft has no defined development cycle, its ever changing, there isnt a diffrence between alpha updates and beta updates, and notch even said release updates wont be much different. you also need to remember there are 2 million buyers of minecraft, it doesnt matter what stage the game is at, if a large part of them are complaining about a certain thing, the developer will have to change it. and complaining about time it takes IS valid. you cant have a developer go to a vacation for years while all of his customers are waiting for product to be functionable. plus, that arugment can be used on everything. for example, a company releases a food product that contains posion. the customers need the food product fixed, but the company answers: "it takes time to do such things. stop being so impatient. we will do it when we like to." you see where im getting at? also whats my grammar and spelling has to do with it? not everyone's first lunguage is english.
I'm not the smartest man, but I had a thought. If that's a Mojang video and Notch is the developer, and the developer is a person that can make changes to the code, and pigs don't normally sit still like that...
Maybe... he coded a special pig that sat still so he could make a nice video? Kind of like how that one time there was a button to spawn a Nether portal? Nah, it's definitely a brand new bug that he was too stupid to notice even though he filmed it.
The person clipping through the wall? Big deal. I have yet to play a game that doesn't have some weird circumstance in which an entity can partially clip through the wall. Would you rather Notch spend all of his time from now to November making sure it's impossible for entities to partially clip each other?

What do you mean delayed? We've still got more than 5 months before it's final release and the bugs need to be fixed.
