What was, in your opinion, the golden age of Minecraft?
I can see very good arguments for every period.
Classic was simply epic for being the first. Even today, it never truly gets old. It also laid down some of the most essential features of Minecraft(Survival and creative mode, mobs(the creeper lol),and the overall emphasis exploring-collecting-building)
Indev-Infdev is usually forgotten by many, but like classic, laid down a lot of features that are today considered essential, especially for survival mode(tools, crafting, infinite worlds, doors)
Alpha was really the point the game started becoming famous. A few of the most famous and acclaimed Minecraft let's plays ever either started or mostly took place in Alpha (Yogscast(although the majority of the LP, including SOI took place in Beta), X and How to survive and thrive are the most famous ones, but there are many others that were still around 1 million views on the first video).
Pre-1.8 Beta was the golden age IMO. A bunch of features being added, game really started shooting to fame. Like Alpha, it had many, if not more, very famous and acclaimed series, not just counting let's plays(Shadow of Israphel, Far Lands or bust and probably many others I missed).
Post-1.8 Beta and the early 1.0 era saw a very radical change in the game itself(new terrain generator, hunger, enchanting, potions, new mobs...)
Post 1.3 is really just special because of the sheer amount of content being added. Although there are some famous ongoing LP's of vanilla(roosterteeth) I personally don't enjoy them very much.

IMO, gameplay-wise (and IMO overall) it was at it's golden age in 1.7.3. I would say that overall, survival mode was at it's best state then. Difficulty was balanced well enough, without much fake difficulty, whereas now all the difficulty modes are virtually identical (the biggest change is damage, and iron armor negates a ton of that damage) and most attempts to remedy this created more fake difficulty and tedium than real difficulty. Exploration was worthwhile for reasons other than pillaging villages and temples or finding a rare biome; the terrain generator was varied enough to consistently surprise you, unlike the ß1.8 and r1.7 terrain generators. It had less content than the current version, but given that so little was added progression-wise over an entire nine updates worth of content (the number of updates between ß1.7.3 and the current version) it's not too much of a loss for survival.
Likewise, I would say the dark age was ß1.8-r1.1 since that was when exploration and difficulty balance tanked (that was really only in 1.8-1.0 but 1.1 was so forgettable I shoved it in there). Since the major issues introduced then were never completely fixed, I wouldn't say a second golden age or THE golden age took place after then. 1.8-1.1 are merely the updates that I would say are straight up worse than ß1.7, hence why I wouldn't call anything after them part of the dark age.
Community-wise i'd say that the golden age was in Alpha, though it certainly wasn't shabby in Beta either.
Mod-wise, it feels like the golden age was from r1.2.4 (I loved colored planks that much) to now. I don't know why but r1.2.5 sticks out to me as being pretty good for mods (and in general, that update felt like it came out of the golden age for some reason). And now... well, most of the mods are updated to the current version.
Community wise, definitely Alpha and Beta. Some of the most famous youtuber's were born during that time, and the game really exploded into existence. Otherwise, I'd say the golden age is right now, and will continue to be the present. jeb_ is adding wonderful new updates and content which won't stop for quite a while, and Minecraft is certainly extremely popular, although there's very few if any decent vanilla lets plays still out there.

Post 1.3+ is golden age to me, as they have added soooo much more! making it just more pleasurable to play with just about every release, though beta 1.8 has a special place in my heart as it was the first version I played on. No, I'm not a true vet, but I didn't know about the game until then!!!
Alpha absolutely. THe game wasn't as bloated, it was all new. We were all so interested in learning the parts of the game and creating things. That was the best part of this game imo.
I'm inclined to think they haven't hit their golden age even as of yet. I see no reasons for the game not to continually improve. Sadly, that isn't an option on your survey.
I would say whenever you first played the game. That is when you had that feeling that you will never experience again. Being a n00b at the game.
You beat me to it. Honestly, I think the golden age for everyone would be the time they joined. I'm probably wrong, but it's just my opinion. My favorite part would be
Alpha. There's very few people disagreeing with this, for those who have been playing this game since indev or classic.
The game had seen quite many things added since then. Many of which improved it. But, to me, a definition of Golden Age isn't about what I liked most. It's about the game throughput and people's own adherence and perception. Although it has a lot more people playing it today, like the Golden Age of Arcade gaming being the time of Space Invaders, Alpha was the phase in which the game took its modern shape, the phase in which more development was made in less time, and the phase that took the game off the shadows and into the tube and internet sensation.
Here's an interesting answer: There has never been a Golden Age in Minecraft. At the very least, a Diamond Age XD
But in all seriousness, I think the Golden Age is it's first release. Why? Because it's a new game, meaning - a new hope, a new enjoyment that has infinite possibilities! Then it started getting better and better as Mojang released Alpha, Infdev, Beta 1.8 and so on.

I think you answered your own question.
This is the answer, hands down.
You can just call me Canary.

But honestly I think the Golden Age for anyone is going to be when they first started playing it.
