I don't get it people swear a lot and I mean it when I log in I see a
swear word.On the game card it says rated 10 and above. When I think it should rated R because of swearing.
I think it's bad because what if a little 6 year old is playing and he/she reads a bad word out loud the little kid technically says it.Probably even the next day at school the kid would say it three times and probably get detention or exspelled. Thus the parents would ask for a refund. I've heard Minecraft is a kids game.If people swear there's no point in rating it 10 and above! If there are any rude comments or replys on this the comment will be reported. Thank you for reading this and have a nice day.
I am almost positive that online interactions are not rated. They cannot be, really. You cannot determine how people will act, and thus rate them. So, as far as the rating goes, I does it applies to online. Not to mention, what is the "Game card"?
Anyway, I don't like it either, and on my server, it is prohibited. Best advice I can give you is, play singleplayer, or only visit servers which enforce such rules.
Also, no servers are officially Mojang - they give you the ability to run servers, but they don't manage them in any way, shape, or form. Nothing Mojang can do about it.

The only thing people display when they swear out their wazoo in minecraft is their maturity level. There is really no way to stop it. They will always be there. Best thing to do is ignore / disregard. Trying to tell them to stop seems to make it worse ;_;

Solution: find a server that has anti spam plugin. It 100% blocks all bad language and you can search for it on planet minecraft or a similar site. It auto censors all bad words. Another option is going into settings, multiplayer, and disabling chat.
It's natural. Minecraft is a game where just about anything can and will go wrong. So people release their anger at being blown up, banned, or realizing that their entire castle is off-center, and so on. It's just how it is.
By your logic, you may as well rate an innocent game like Wizard101 as an R rated game, because of all the creepy pedophiles that hang out in the starter area and say, "Are there any young boys around here? Don't worry, I'm a policeman."
As most others have said, the online stuff in this game, and any game, is not rated by the ESRB. It's up to the players to do things online, such as cursing.
Although kids do play Minecraft, most people aren't kids, so naturally, they do curse. (Well, kids swear quite a lot, too, but that's for another thread.)
There are servers that are anti-swear in this game. You just have to look.
Ikr? If an 8 year old saw a bad word, they will say what does *bleep* mean to his/her dad/mum/teacher/. I think the reason they swear is because they swear a lot in real life or they are not having a good day.
No. Swearing becomes part of someone's vocabulary once they begin to use it. In school, you're encouraged not to use it. In adult life, you're allowed to use it, just not around children. People who swear in minecraft ARE NOT depressed or angry, they're just speaking how they regularly speak. They couldn't give a damn if there are kids there! They bought the game, and they're allowed to play multiplayer all they damn want, with the exception of server rules. On that note, it's up to the server to block swearing. If the server doesn't block swearing, too bad, nothing you can do about it. Go host your own server if you're unhappy with this, or find one that does.

To all of you people who think Notch is still working on the game, he stopped working on Minecraft in late 2011. Get your facts straight and stop spamming his twitter about Minecraft updates.
Online interactions: ANYTHING people do on multiplayer. That includes language usage. Too bad.

Eh, why do people swear so much on any game. It's the internet and there's no repercussions. Unfortunately it has just become an aspect of the internet. I'm not saying it's an agreeable aspect but one none the less.
I'm pretty sure that's it is up to the server owner/staff to decide whether or not a person can swear, not Mojang. As pretty much every game that is rated by the ESRB, they only rate stuff that is INCLUDED in the game, such as violence, IN-GAME swearing, sexual situations, etc. They do not know what people are going to say/do when they play a game, therefore it is not possible to rate it on that scale.

Online Interactions Not Rated by the ESRB.
Find a server that disallows swearing, then.
There isn't swearing in singleplayer, only multiplayer, which is not rated, as I just said.

I have a swear filter in place and they constantly try to get around it using all sorts of combination.
Cursing doesn't solve anything just makes you sound immature and foolish.
This happens in any competitive game though, it's not specifically Minecraft.
Just get over it
