With the new 1.6 update, I have found a way to "tame" undead mobs. In this tamed state, Zombies will
not attack villagers nor players, instead walking around aimlessly. You can choose the color of collar they have,
much like a wolf. (Disclaimer: "Pet" zombies will not act loyal to you, due to severe brain damage. Just leave them at home!) Here is a picture of some "tamed" zombies NOT attacking a villager.
How it works:
In 1.6, several new features were added that let us create these harmless undead. These features
include: Carpets (used for collars), Attribute modifier system (Used for "taming") and nametags. (used for naming, of course.) You will need MCedit, and two filters (CreateGearedMobs, and MobAttribute). It works because with the CreateGearedMobs filter, you can put any block on a mobs head, so putting a carpet block with color of your choice will make it look like it will have that color of collar. Also, with MobAttribute, you can set their follow distance to 0, meaning they are entirely blind to anything they might want to eat.
Uses:
There could be a "Pet store" on a server, which you could buy undead pets from
They could confuse players on a custom map
You could bring them to a village and freak out the kids
You could scare neighbors off your property
You could use them to guard a vault (wither skeleton good for this one)
Easily possible before 1.6 and used on quite a lot of maps I believe. Would be better if you found a way to do this in survival without mods/programs.
In the maps I saw with "friendly" undead, they used slowness, weakness, or a combination. This uses a new attribute modifier system to decrease follow radius, meaning they will wander around, but not chase or attack. It also uses carpets as a nice aesthetic "collar". I agree it would be nice to do in legitimate gameplay, but it is not possible as of yet to my knowledge.
I is cute kitten
It was in "Recent Updates" when I posted it, someone moved it )
Thanks!
Thank you!
More detailed? how so?
You are aware the "collars" are carpet blocks put on it's head using MCedit filters right?
Thanks!
Thanks a lot!
Glad you liked it!
It sure does! Any undead!

Love having a baby zombie follow me around.
Mcedited things count as vanilla, as no modifications to the game itself are made. (External world editor, not a plugin)
