It seems like everyone is always talking about how the older versions are better than the current ones. I think the current ones are absolutely awesome. I personally can not wait for every update to be released because each one is consecutively better than the one before. There is more content, more features, more fun things to do. What do you guys like so much about the earlier versions of minecraft and why do you continuously hate the newer updates?
Nostalgia, pretty much. I've even played the older versions, and I think the current versions of Minecraft are way better than what Minecraft was in Alpha or Beta.
I've been a supporter of new updates until this latest one. I have no intention of updating at this point. It seems like the focus of the game is shifting from sandbox construction exploration game to combat game. First they made skeletons tougher in the last update, I wasn't a huge fan of that, but i learned to live with it. But now they've made it so that if you fight a single zombie, you're stuck in a an endless zombie attack until daybreak. On top of that they've made healing more difficult, consuming food in order to heal rather than healing naturally as long as food is full.
Horses seem intriguing, but I'm not willing to pay the price of the combat updates in order to try them out. I've also heard they changed how boats were controlled, which weren't great to begin with, now they sound absolutely terrible. I don't travel by boat incredibly often, but when I do, I don't want to deal with the type of controls I've heard described.
I'm perfectly content to stay with my current version for the time being. If some amazing update comes in the future, I may consider it, but it would have to be pretty good for me to accept this new focus on combat that the game is taking.

Don't be silly. Ever since they created the first monsters minecraft has been about the ability to survive, explore and possibly defend your creations. If you want a "sandbox construction exploration game" why don't you just play in creative mode?
I always thought the purpose of an update was to well UPDATE the game, improving it, making it better, etc. I don't get why people miss the old versions? If the newer ones are improved and better.
Like others have said before its mostly nostalgia. Some people have a hard time accepting that no game will be fun forever and they will eventually get tired of it. Instead of realizing this they live in the past where they were having fun. They then look at game now when they aren't having the same fun, and blame the developers and the game for it. Minecraft is much better now than it was before
People just hate change. That's why they are always complaining.
The minecraft community in a nutshell:
"Minecraft is amazing! They should really add new features though. Maybe Horses?"
update is released with horses-"OMG JEB YOU'VE RUINED MINECRAFT! "
You're right, and if you look at other forums for different games, its the same thing. People want change, and then when change arrives, they complain until there's nothing to complain about. This cycle happens in every update.
One thing people mainly hated is the 1.8 beta update.
This update completely changed almost everything.
You used to think carrying around food was good where if your health got low you would just instantly eat and be healed.
People from way back to 1.7.3 beta were so used to this,
that when they added the hunger bar and slower eating, they didn't like that because it changed how you would work things.
you used to be able to take out a hoard of zombies as long as you had food.

It is strange because minecraft beta 1.8 was my favourite update of all time. So many new awesome things were released like dungeons, stronghold and abandoned mineshafts. Hunger was an awesome update it added a certain skill level to be able to survive in the game because you used to be nearly invincible if you had food on you.
I wouldn't say everyone hates it, though there is a portion of people that do.
This is because they have generally been playing since Alpha or Beta (or possibly earlier, on some occasions), and now that the game updates, it may not be what they want. They are clouded by a sense of nostalgia and what they want the game to be. They want it to be a sandbox construction game. They want random and sometimes ridiculous things added. They wanted things to be changed. They won't take Minecraft for what it is every update. Instead they view it based on how closely it resembles what they want.

I think that's why they added the hunger system because they wanted the game to be a little more difficult. With the hunger system it made the game harder. Which personally I like because it gives you a challenge. This is probably why people complain with newer updates; the game gets harder, etc.
Why would this game get harder anyway... This is minecraft.
That is what hardcore mode is for.
Hardcore mode is meant to be a greater challenge than in regular mode. The hunger system and all these other features within minecraft are like a necessity to improve minecraft whether its to make the overall gameplay a little bit harder for you or to give players multiple things to do. I still say minecraft is amazing where it's at now, it's an opinion that many people share here on the MCForums.
I like the 1.6 update a lot.
One thing I do not like is the launcher's profile system.
when I try to make a version that is older, EVEN when I add the profile it wont work.
It says: cant run version, missing minecraftArguments

We're talking about why there are so many people hating on the new updates.
That could be true, then again I am a happy customer and an active member of this forum.
