I dont know what everyone is complaining about; Notch originally stated that he wanted the Ender Dragon to be a rogue-like difficulty boss fight, and he completely botched that, making perhaps the easiest final boss of all time. It's about damn time end-game Minecraft players are faced with a challenge. You aren't expected to easily beat this guy: you have to put a lot of time and effort into it.
You kids and your attitude of "if it's too hard I'll complain to the developers so they make it easier" is hurting the video games industry. If something is hard, then try a little so that you can brag to your friends about it later.
So no, the Wither is not too hard. You're just a bunch of scrubs.
Clean out a mineshaft of cobwebs and cave spiders, light it up, seal off dead ends, and spawn it in the square room. Use the supports to slow it down, and litter it with arrows while running around in those naturally-generated corridors, once it activates Wither Armor, start using splash potions or your sword while it continues to eat the supports in pursuit. With a big enough mineshaft at your disposal, the fight should be a cinch.

How would you deal with the Wither debuff? It's like cave spider poison that lasts for 40 seconds(on hard mode), and will kill you even if you have half a heart left. On top of that, any damage you take during the debuff is added to the Wither's health.

Don't get hit, they only poison you on direct hits.
also, drinking milk cures it

Would you like to show us a video of you defeating it without creative mode / mods?
If not, I don't think your comments bring much to the topic.
No, since I don't need to prove anything to you.
I always hear people wanting a more challenging game, and when they get a harder game, they cry and say it's too hard. (Hunger is a good example.)
Something that is actually hard to fight, and takes ample planning is a very good thing. The ender dragon was a ****ing joke, I geared up for one hell of a fight. No, just a mob that bumps into you like all the others.
So as a recap, this boss looks really tough and fun to fight. However, because I can't cheat and kill it easily, or stun-lock it, it's too tough and has to be weakened.
I found the wither boss really difficult to defeat while in survival, even with a full set of diamond armor, a diamond sword, and healing potions, I still died multiple times and had to revert back to creative to defeat it.
He moves really fast(deal with it)
He regenerates health fast(Nope)
He can send out continuous, exploding heads without really any cooldown at all(So? its not the frist distructive mob (creeper endermen zombie)
He has a ton of health (what dose daimond sword have to say about that?)
He can fly(Ghast enderdragon)
He's immune to arrows at half health(He stops flying)
His attacks do a ton of damage, poison you, and make your health bar hard to see(Regenration potion)
Seems kind of overpowered to me. (thats just you)
When I fought him, he hovered right over me; just beyond the reach of my sword(Ever heard of a bow?) , and followed me while constantly bombarding me with his exploding heads, making it incredibly hard to draw and shoot my bow without getting damaged(regenration potion) . If I let him get away for a few seconds, his health just comes right back(he regenrates health very slowly to me) and I have to do it all over again(then dont read a book and fight it) .
To all these guys saying he is easy, how bout you make a you tube video of killing it on hard mode?...seriously.
Nobody said he's easy. We're arguing that we are happy with the difficulty of the boss and don't mind a challenge, while providing options for how you can deal with the Wither's abilities.

Okay so the plan is to make a pyramid of power, buff yourself with potion after potion, have a powerful diamond sword, and full suit of highly enchanted diamond armor, and get stuck in.
He also applies the Wither debuff to other mobs, so he can heal by simply shooting a passive mob.
Then fight him underground, where you have the advantage. He's three blocks tall, so build a long corridor put beams over your head so that he has to stop and eat them before he can continue to pursue you. Have iron golems ready for a steady stream of damage. Regeneration potions, golden apples, eat whatever you need to survive. When it comes time to hit him have a sword enchanted with Smite to do extra damage to him. This is all in theory of course, but it's certainly possible to kill this guy. Which is good enough for me.

Bring a friend.
You can't build a pyramid of power since one of the ingredients for it (a nether star) only drops from the Wither.

Logic.
1. All damage you take during the debuff is transferred to his health
2. It lasts up to 40 seconds depending on difficulty
3. It damages you like cave spider posion, except it will actually kill you rather than drop you to half a heart.
Milk is an option, but considering how fast those things shoot, and milk buckets just take up inventory space, it's not worth it.

If it's not too far, you could just sit far away with a powerful bow.
Also, at half health he becomes invincible to arrows.

He becomes invulnerable to arrows at 50% health, so at some point you would have to get close to him.
He also applies the Wither debuff to other mobs, so he can heal by simply shooting a passive mob.
