agreed. Technically it's somewhat useful as you can shovel it up and get flint from it, which is kinda useful, but as just gravel, it's got no purpose at all. You can't even build a bridge with it!
Me? CRAZY? No, no, I believe you're mistaken, I mean, I mean, HEY! I just met you, and uh...this! This is crazy! So, here's a number. And, call me, maybe? AHAHA.
I really want to say gravel, since it's really annoying, but it does have the use of providing flint. Flint is good for arrows and making fire, so indirectly gravel isn't totally useless. I will say it's the most annoying thing in Minecraft though. Finding it underground and having to dig it all out so it doesn't fall on you...
Realistically I'd probably have to say ferns or dead bushes. Tall grass gives seeds at least, but ferns and dead bushes do literally nothing.
Lapis isn't entirely useless. I think it makes a nice decorative block.
I do think gold armor/tools are very useless. They don't deal much damage, they can't even mine gold ore, and they're incredibly weak, breaking in only 33 uses. Almost half as much as wooden tools! I don't like netherrack much either, as it has a pretty ugly pattern. But it's good for fireplaces!
Clocks can be a little more useful come the 1.4 update with picture frames.
I'd have to say gravel, it has no use what-so-ever.
It makes some nice walkways for a small village! You can also make a "gravel farm" of sorts, and keep digging through it for flint to make arrows with. So I wouldn't say it's entirely useless lol.
It's a way of transport for exploring when riding pigs, and it dosn't use hunger, plus it's cheap.

Minecarts with furnaces. Ever since booster rails came out, to me they seem be too much of a hassle. Hm. A lot of people have probably forgotten they exist anymore.

I just now remembered those exist. I've never actually used one.
I do use the powered minecart.
When I mine in my giant castle's mine and my friend is occupied doing something at the surface like, let's say, breed the animals,
I can just add some tracks and send a powered minecart with a chest cart and put the items in it, and ask him to send back some more items.
I really love it.
Edit: Didn't quote... Oh well

Air block is there because it has to be. Sponge is useless atm though, yeah. I absolutely love the powered minecart & it's a true shame that hardly anybody uses it now. I've never met anybody else who uses a powered minecart but I always try to.

Can't look up under ground
I'd have to agree with the those saying gravel...Easily throw more of it away than any other block.

The crafting recipe, White Wool + Bonemeal.
I WIN.
