I'm liking what I'm seeing with the new features, NPC trading, sandstone stairs, silk touch that picks up ice, writable books, cocoa beans on trees, ender chests.. the list goes on. It's getting to the point where I can't wait to play the next release.
However, there's a down side. I am seeing an ever increasing list of bugs on http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Known_bugs. Some of these bugs have been around for a long time (more than 9 months some of them). I know that there's a lot more work to go into the next release for new features like the beginning of the Mod API, and therefore there's bound to be more bugs.
In addition it seems that every release of the game runs slower and slower, this is more likely a function of the number of lines of code, but it is still an ever increasing creep that is not really enjoyed.
I'm interested to know, after some bugs being on the list since before the game was released, who would like Mojang to just go on a bug killing spree.
It's a game programmed in JAVA -- there is no such thing as something that isn't buggy when written in Java. Java is the greatest and worst programming language in existence, and odds are this game will never be bug free. As long as the bugs aren't making the game unplayable, they will probably be around for a very long time.
I'm sure they are working on the bugs too. There's more demand for features than bug fixes, since none of them are bad enough to ruin the game or experience, and most people care more about new stuff than fixing old stuff that they are bored with anyway.
I'm running into a bug in 12w21b that's making the game almost unplayable: my new additions don't save if I leave the area. I've lost additions twice now, and that's annoying as hell. There's lots of other bugs I've noticed, but that one is a killer for me. So, break out the Raid, please!

Battle not with creepers, lest ye become a creeper, and if you gaze into the ravine, the ravine gazes also into you.

this is a result of the code not being optimized like it should, not because of java, 10 years ago you might have been right, but not anymore. there would actually be MORE bugs in C++ because it's a more basic language, and takes more lines for the same stuff.

I agree and I like Java. So +1 for you Gatling_Tech.
IMO they should be fixing more bugs.. There's simply no excuse for it.. I've been noticing more and more of the bigger youtubers are making comments like "Fix your game Jeb" in their videos a lot more in the last couple months... That should really communicate to them that they need to spend more time doing that. But they don't seem to care. Instead, they seem more prone to respond to the vocal whiners that tweet them their complaints.
what i hope is that with the next update, the SSMP will require a big re-write of code, so that will basically force them to write it better
Not going to happen and I suspect that the server part of it is going to just be the bukkit server. Makes the most sense since it already has a mod API in it.
I kinda hope that the Mod API isn't just bukkit. I hope that, unlike Bukkit it has the power to also add new content to the client, if there's new blocks in a "plugin" I would hope that the mod API would allow the client to automatically download the resources for it too.
Remember that these are snapshots, and are supposed to have bugs. What happens is the community points out bugs, and in the last few snapshots, the bugs get fixed. Then they release a relatively bug-free version.
I recently started playing Minecraft more frequently again after a few months of not playing at all. Sure, I still like Minecraft but I came across the same old bugs that are around for half a year or so. They're only minor but as Minecraft has a lot of these minor bugs it get's very frustrating and annoying, at least for me.
I don't really blame jeb, I mean he's just one guy and it's nearly impossible to fix all the bugs without help.
But there's a flaw. There's still no real way to report the bugs. Twitter?, forget it. Minecraftwiki has the best and only? buglist, but only the bugs that were introduced with a new version are listed. So bugs from older versions are slowly forgotten.
Currently there is a huge pile of bugs/problems and honestly, I think they'll never be fixed. Not because of ingnorance but because it's not possible. It probably gets worse with every new release.
Mojang should have done something and thought about the bugs a long time ago, but now, I'm afraid it's too late.
I sincerely hope that jeb gets help from Notch/Mojang and they are thinking about a solution or better way to prevent most of the bugs.
The thing is though jackcaver, there's now jeb_, evilseph, dinnerbone, and I'm sorry, but I think there's two more that have been working on minecraft, or are capable of working on minecraft. The team at Mojang that are working or have worked on minecraft is a lot larger than just jeb_.
Some bugs were definitely there when Notch was working on the game. I don't begrudge him dropping his work on it to move on to other things, but I think it's time that Mojang go back through the Wiki to see if there's any "forgotten" bugs.
SMP is definitely the buggiest, and it is probably the most played simply because of the element of community. I still don't understand why boats are so laggy, I think there has only ever been one release where boats behaved like they do in SSP.
Oh and Redyoshi, I really only play on the releases and I understand the concept of the snapshots, but how many features have been added where all the "annoying" bugs have been released through to the full release. Time and time again I've seen Mojang release with "annoying" bugs.
I'm not saying that the game is not playable for me, but it could be a lot more enjoyable, and for the money that Mojang have earned from the game, I would think that they could afford to put some time into killing the bugs, do you know what I mean?

Oh, I did not know that. Well, then it makes it only more frustrating.

Exactly. I always enjoy Minecraft, but when I start the game and I still see the same old bugs, then I get this feeling that Minecraft will always stay buggy. I don't know, it's very tedious.

Disclaimer: This is not a rant
