What a bunch of stuck-up people in this thread. Only argument they can use is "don't play MC."
Explain to me how bats that SPAWN IN PRETTY MUCH EVERY CAVE are "optional". As they're buffing enemies to the point where you cannot beat them without potions and/or enchanted armor, tell me how those features are "optional." They're not. The features used to be good, but now they spend 5 mins on them and give up. In addition, 2 promised features (lighting overhaul and mod API) in 1.4 were given up on to go work on features nobody wanted. Personally, I'd find either of those much more desirable than new food textures, witches, or bats.

Neckbeards! Doctor Cichocki does not approve of stupidity and neither do I, stop the spread of damned useless rules!
You lost me at mods. I don't use mods, not even texture packs, but even I can see what modding has done for this game.
Only thing I with is the single player bit.
Half the reason I played single player was I hate the lag in multiplayer, even with a good ping, the tiny amount of lag that comes with multiplayer is enough to annoy me. It's especially noticeable on things like Minecarts. Now I have to deal with it in single player too.
I don't understand this thread at all. Minecraft is still Minecraft, no core features have ever changed. Mechanics have almost always stayed the same, and basic building materials have remained in tact since forever-and-a-half. Most of the things you whined about are optional anyhow.
I honestly think you are trying to be a hipster. Complaining just to complain.
Well, instead of being so one-sided with your statement and immediately exclaiming this thread is complete , perhaps you could wait for the OP to finally realize the value of paragraphs and add them.
Personally, I think you just embarassed yourself with that post.
I've seen this guy's posts a few times and they're litterally all the same, complaining about new features and how they didn't add promised features in 1.4. Sheesh, the amount of ungreateful people on this forum is too damn high.
And shadows, new mobs, new items, hunger, objectives, achievements, new ores, trading, villages, enchantments, anvils, ender dragon, wither, bats, witches, witch huts, different ways to herd animals, experience, mining gives experience, breeding gives experience, beacons? Yeah, you're totally right.
True. But none of that takes away from the core minecraft gameplay. When minecraft goes from genesis sonic to dreamcast sonic, then I will complain... I know a lot of minecrafters may be too young to get that, so look it up! Complain when REAL bad changes happen.
This doesn't mean that I'm not playing minecraft anymore. I'm never updating. And many of you should consider this.
My first vision of the game minecraft was amazing. I played and played for what seemed like days. I tried to survive, and even make a diamond block. Minecraft was an amazing game for me. The community was nice, the updates were great, up until now. Ever since _jeb took over the development of minecraft, things are getting bad. The original idea of minecraft has just been flushed down the toilet. Now I do not mean to be a troll with the following sentences. Please don't hate me for saying this, but minecraft is getting to the stage where it practically sucks! The original idea of minecraft was to survive in your own world. You could mine, you could smelt, you could craft, and you could build. Now, minecraft has been taken to a new idea which makes minecraft steal the ideas from terarria. I can't believe the things that _Jeb has done to literally f**k minecraft.
He is adding modding support, which I don't agree to. Minecraft was never about modding, and about a year ago, few would make mods. They would create mods that allowed you to cheat, like TooManyItems (Beta 1.2) and Single Player Commands (A. 1.2.6). Those inventory editor programs became popular with the cheaters of minecraft. Although there have been those mods that just ruin the game, there were some mods that were good (Aether, EvilMinecraft, Tale of Kingdoms, MoCreatures, etc.). Now most of those mods are not even being updated anymore. The best mods were total conversions of minecraft. I don't like _jeb's Idea of being able to make mods. Modding was never a part of minecraft, and never should be one of the main ideas of minecraft. I'm not saying that making minecraft mods is bad, I'm just saying that the modding shouldn't be a big part of minecraft.
Another thing is the adventuring. Minecraft started out as a game where you build and create things. I think that adding the sword and mobs were enough, but notch and _jeb just didn't make the right decisions about minecraft. Now we have to actually beat the game! I don't like having to go on a big journey just to beat the game. Ravines were enough. With all of the new features of minecraft, it seems that notch or _Jeb were hinting a story about minecraft with the features. It makes sense for there to be mysterious wells, NPC villages, isolated strongholds, and even a disk that may have given a hint about Herobrine (The disk named 11) to be part of a story. We don't want any stories about minecraft. Most (like me) just want to stay with the ability to survive, craft, and build. With all of this adventure stuff, I'm not surprised if minecraft suddenly turns into terraria!
One of my last reasons is the multiplayer functions. Now we need a minecraft server to play singleplayer. Sort of like gmod, minecraft server and singleplayer is pretty much the same thing. I don't want this. Believe it or not, with the fact that there is no such thing as singleplayer anymore means that minecraft just took down many mods. Mods like T.M.I and S.P.C or any other mod that counts on the minecraft singleplayer jar is gone. There is no way to make a mod like T.M.I in singleplayer because T.M.I has some functions in the mp version and the sp version. With there being no more singleplayer, the functions will be raped. You can also be disconnected from a SINGLE PLAYER WORLD! That is why I'm never updating minecraft again. If people want to start a protest about minecraft, I will automatically support that.
Now, don't yell at me. Don't flame me. Don't ban me or ridicule me, because I have a point. Minecraft was good from the beginning to 1.2.5. I have a point. Minecraft is at it's final stage of being popular
I highly disagree about the modding, but agree about everything else. I don't want goals that he sets. I don't give a about pink leather dresses, or invisibility (You can just see the dirt kicked up in SMP). The anvil is overpowering enchanting and severely unbalancing the game. I havn't updated since 1.2.5, and I STILL play 1.8.1 often, since one could easily argue that it's the last 'untainted' version of minecraft.
AND HE ING CHANGED PISTON TIMING! WHAT THE HELL, JEB?
Thanks for banning me from my own save, by the way. Nice server realism there.
Eh, you've got a point. I like the new additions to 1.4.2. I tend to play whatever the newest version of Minecraft is, heavily modded, with mods including "nostalgia-style" mods like Better World Generation.

Let’s play good guys against bad guys… Yes. Let’s play that. Are you ready? You’re the bad guy. And when you’re bad, you just run. That’s fine right? Well… Shall we play?
If you don't want to defeat the Ender Dragon, don't. You can even turn off structures; that way there isn't even an End portal.
The fact that singleplayer is actually a server is purely at the technical level. It still plays just the same, with only a few minor differences that don't affect gameplay at all.
No, you are wrong on all accounts, no matter what you say.
Everything is optional.
And the game hasn't gotten worse, it hasn't gotten better, its what people think about it, not what it is.
The perception of how good or bad the game has become is in the eye of the beholder. Some of us have been playing Minecraft since the beginning or close to the beginning and we love all the new changes, and some others don't like the optional changes in the game.
However, I'm trying to understand what the problem is. Everything you loved in Minecraft when you started playing, save for a couple features, is still there. We still got dirt, cobblestone, stone half slabs, wheat farms, all the basic stuff we've had since the indev/infdev stage. You don't have to interact with villagers, ignore them. You don't have to explore strongholds and abandoned mineshafts, ignore them or fill with TNT and blast it all to pieces. Don't like the Nether? Don't build a portal. Playing Minecraft the way it used to be is as simple as ignoring all the new features on it.
And no, Minecraft would've never have gotten this popular if everything we had back in alpha remained just that way. Infinite spawning passive mobs you cannot domesticate and breed, laggy day/night transition, creeper and zombie and skeleton and spider being the only hostiles, no redstone, only blocks you had were the ones you could access in classic/demo mode, and there was very little if no mod support at the time. People today would've gotten bored of this game so fast that it would've fallen into a forgotton pile of barely-played games somewhere in their computer.
Change is inevitable for everything, and that includes videogames. You don't like the change? Ignore them or use a nostalgia mod, rather than starting a crusade in order to ruin everyone else's fun so you can get back what you lost, but was never missing to begin with.
everybody's has a right to a opinion i have only been playing minecraft for about 1 year and i think all these improvements have made the game 100 times better i think this little things are just what the game needed and i for one love the fact that it feels like the game is still evolving and the community is very much alive i love how a game i bough a year ago is a much better game today then it was then and there still adding stuff its like the game that keeps getting better but of course this is all my opinion
Why I'm never be on minecraftforums again, sorry but Haters haters everywhere. After every update: why i dont update, I hate 1.4.2, why did you add this!? and things like that, stop hating I like updates, and features you dont like, dont use. Problem solved nice day. Thanks. And then you say dont yell at me, you have a point: I dont want to beat the game. No? Dont beat the game then, simple enough and thing like this:
If people want to start a protest about minecraft, I will automatically support that.
Why? It is crazy, everything new is stupid, start a protest. That will make minecraft much better. Sorry just wanted to say.
This doesn't mean that I'm not playing minecraft anymore. I'm never updating. And many of you should consider this.

How lovely, now find a way to solve this with your self. Try a map or a mod, maybe a self-imposed challenge?
The original idea of minecraft was to survive in your own world. You could mine, you could smelt, you could craft, and you could build.
You still can mine, smelt, craft, and build. And you can also enchant, explore, trade, brew, fight, level, and more now. That original idea is still there.
Now, minecraft has been taken to a new idea which makes minecraft steal the ideas from terarria. I can't believe the things that _Jeb has done to literally f**k minecraft.
He is adding modding support, which I don't agree to.
Minecraft was never about modding, and about a year ago,
NO! NO! NO! Minecraft is 2 games, an empty shell to fill with mods and maps, and a simple survival game. Mods are part of the empty shell. And why can you decide about Minecraft is about?
few would make mods. They would create mods that allowed you to cheat, like TooManyItems (Beta 1.2) and Single Player Commands (A. 1.2.6).
Yea, because you TOTALY did not need a mod that let you quickly and easily create map structures, or get an odd item, like forever burning furnaces. Yea. Name one popular Youtuber that uses TMI to cheat on purpose.
Actually, the best mods were the ones that knew how to add a new aspect of minecraft or giving more control to players without forcing it. Like TMI, SPC, Modloader. All optional.
I don't like _jeb's Idea of being able to make mods.
Because your opinion is the end all word.
Modding was never a part of minecraft, and never should be one of the main ideas of minecraft. I'm not saying that making minecraft mods is bad, I'm just saying that the modding shouldn't be a big part of minecraft.
Mods ARE a big part of Minecraft. Half the forums is mods and maps.
Another thing is the adventuring. Minecraft started out as a game where you build and create things. I think that adding the sword and mobs were enough,
NO! The combat would be HORRIBLE with out depth. Not complexity, but depth. Where you have many ways to take on a problem.
but notch and _jeb just didn't make the right decisions about minecraft. Now we have to actually beat the game!
That is optional. Therefore you don't need to do it.
I don't like having to go on a big journey just to beat the game.
Then don't. I often do not ever go to the end.
Ravines were enough.
Then ONLY EXPLORE THE FREAKING RAVINES.
With all of the new features of minecraft, it seems that notch or _Jeb were hinting a story about minecraft with the features. 100% of all of these are OPTIONAL.
We don't want any stories about minecraft.
I want a plot. I'd love a plot. Minecraft could do well for an optional plot or story.
Most (like me) just want to stay with the ability to survive, craft, and build.
Implying that you can't do those.
With all of this adventure stuff, I'm not surprised if minecraft suddenly turns into terraria!
Terraria isn't a bad game...
One of my last reasons is the multiplayer functions. Now we need a minecraft server to play singleplayer.

TMI is back, SPC is soon to be back up.

No, TMI just need a recoding for some things.
With there being no more singleplayer, the functions will be raped.
The functions are back, now with enchanting and favorites.
You can also be disconnected from a SINGLE PLAYER WORLD!
No. You. Can't.
That is why I'm never updating minecraft again. If people want to start a protest about minecraft, I will automatically support that.
Yay, go for you. /sarcasm

1. You have to have feed back. 2. You do not have a point. the only thing forced on you are Hunger, Terrain (Get OldDays mod for that) and the SSP SMP merge.
Somebody said everything was optional. He pointed out three things that definitely weren't optional, and you think this is an answer? It is optional because you can install a mod? His answer is correct. Your reply is nonsense.
