I'm looking fowred to working with both of you :biggrin.gif: !
I like the 'chieve, but I don't understand the furnace..
Also, this may be the best steampunk song I have ever heard:
Furnace is kinda like a steam engine right? I thought it would be steampunk. I can make a new one if you want.
Even though those pictures are epic, the world has already generated, and Gasglow is currently in construction.
And yes, the maps/schematics would be cool, but please just post them in pictures.
Doesn't matter, can generate up chunks arround/away from what is already built without erasing what is already there. Smooth transitions are a little bit tricky, but no major trouble with a little bit of Voxel Sniper or MCedit, that way as well you'd have much more varied terrain.
So your not looking for additional content, but would be fine with inspirational pictures instead...?
I think it will take you a lot longer to get things done without accepting other players schematics/map files, but then it is your project, so who am I to say anything. Good luck! I'll post up any pics of steampunk stuff I build for you.
You'll die IRL before you even get close to finishing this. Good luck with that.
And what do you think people said about going into space? or when Americans fought the British, nobody thought they would win but they did. The point is, even if you think this is impossible, it doesn't mean it is.
Sorry guys! I didn't get any emails saying that people kept posting! Damn unreliable internet :angry.gif: !!
As for what I've been doing over the last several years that I've been gone, Dragoon is right, I have been working my **** off on the world. I'm almost done with the slums, I've worked out the train system, built an airship, altered some floating islands, TONS. And I made a fan-art piece for Inthelittlewood..but my scanner ran away in the night to join alcida refused to copy it right, so I won't be able to send it in :sad.gif: So, in a nutshell -- Sorry I've been absent, been working, my scanner hates me, and my **** fell off. --
ALSO -- Tomorrows my birthday :laugh.gif:
It takes like 2 REAL LIFE days going full minecart speed IN THE NETHER (8x distance) to get to the end of the world. Not the end of the nether, mind you, if you built a portal back up you would be at the end of the world just think about that.
I'm sorry to be so blunt, but Jesus ****ing Christ, I cannot even begin to describe how impossible this is. The fact that you're doing it yourself just makes it even more ludicrous. I'm not going explain why it would take longer than you will live, because others have already covered that. But even if the time weren't a problem, there's another issue.
I play on a server that's 11 months old, and the farthest anyone has built their home is around 300k from spawn. Now, lets say that the generated chunks in the world comprise about 10% of the area within 300k from spawn, which is generous. That is around four million times smaller than the entire map. Still, the server's map size is currently 72.3 GIGABYTES. I'm not even going to bother figuring out how many millions of gigabytes of hard disc space you would need to carry out this absurd plan. But rest assured, it's a lot. I very much doubt that your parents will pay for a server farm to be installed in their house.
However, I offer another, easier solution; program a new map generation algorithm which generates steampunk stuff. And even if you don't know java, learning a programming language is faster than placing blocks for ten billion lifetimes.
And what do you think people said about going into space? or when Americans fought the British, nobody thought they would win but they did. The point is, even if you think this is impossible, it doesn't mean it is.
True, problem is this IS completely impossible. Ignoring that just makes you look stupid. I did the math to try and prove to you how immensely ridiculous this is, problem is sometimes numbers get so big you can't really imagine them anymore. 5 million earths, just try and imagine that, even if you can't. You can all try, you will just die before you cover 1% of the map. It is the truth, I wanted to avoid being mean about it but some people just ignore reality in their naive quest for the impossible.

You sir, are a uncouth swine. Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries. I fart in you general direction. Go swallow a bar of soap...that's what I would say if I had no self control.
I understand your opinion. Lots of people do. I get comments like this daily. But, I believe my friend davux1 has already said what I want to say..
"And what do you think people said about going into space? or when Americans fought the British, nobody thought they would win but they did. The point is, even if you think this is impossible, it doesn't mean it is."
So yeah, I'm doing this project, despite yours and everyone else's...*does quotation marks with hands* constructive...criticism. *makes face* Nah nah nah nah nah nah.
Also, mind your language. Please.

Yet another comment to add to the collection...
Look, if your gonna get all up in my face, just FARK OFF! go find another topic! Look, I am doing the goddamn map, and you and the many, many, MANY other people can't stop me! I have set myself a goal and I intend to complete it. End of story. Bye bye.
Wow..what a thing to hear on my birthday :dry.gif:

You need to accept that some things are genuinely impossible, or at least so unlikely that it's more practical just to think of them as impossible. For example, if you, personally, were to fight one thousand US marines, you would lose. You can talk about the moon landing all you want, they'll still kill you.
In the historical examples you mentioned, it was just speculation whether or not it was actually possible. This is computing, which is deterministic. I have actual arguments to back up my assertion. The task you are attempting to complete is impossible, and unless you have legitimate counterarguments that specifically address what I said, saying otherwise will be, as I said, completely retarded.

Its fine! I understand now!
In other news...
Got a new charger for the laptop! Will hopefully be getting the screenshots up soon!
I would use it, but I can't for some reason..
Ha ha! I love Prof. Farnswroth.

Is anyone here still alive?
I'm going to just assume the lack of activity here for the past few days is because the topic creator is hard at work building.

I would classify this as a discussion.
