In my opinion, the beaches still look really ugly. It's ironic that almost all biomes are forced flat, except for beaches, which actually should be flat.

They are forced flat too. They are just thin and are placed near a biome with very different height. If you will generate beaches as normal biomes, they would be as flat as deserts.

None of the biomes are forced flat except plains and deserts.
mehh for me is boring notch dont fix the beaches and only worst other biomes like a spamed mountains
Notch doesn't really work on Minecraft anymore. Jeb, Dinnerbone, Grum, and I believe a few other developers now program Minecraft
The new snapshot has great biomes! I hope the flow smoothly; that would make them perfect! I already know desert biomes and such will not appear next to Taiga biomes and vice versa, but if the height generation were to flow smoothly I would give super tops to Mojang
Has anyone else noticed that jungle and desert are much more rare now?
...or is that just my seed?
Nah not your seed, I noticed it too, I flew over a world in creative for atleast 15 minutes, no jungles. The world feels a lot warmer with the transitions, though.

Here's a glimpse of a Taiga M biome (new variation of a normal taiga) next to an Extreme Hills. They blend pretty nice with each other. Although use of less technical biomes for height variation would be nice...
Extreme Hills in general look a lot better with the snow caps and stone, and can actually take advantage of the height limit now. I saw one go around Y 200.

+1 I'm one of the people who this update basicly fixed almost every problem I had, a few more I have, but they are just small.

It's your seed. I just generated a new world, and that's all I've been able to find so far, Excluding Jungles. Haven't found one of them yet.
That, and the new Savanna Biome.
This new amplified terrain looks awesome. I generally dont play vanilla anymore as i use FTB with biomes o plenty, but I am seriously considering playing vanilla again now.
I'm going to give Mojang credit, They made the terrain more pretty, and interresting, but it's still lacks height variation and the beaches still looks mest up (There now 3 types of beaches: Sand, Gravel, and Stone)
EDIT: Ok the new height is slightly more various, but still not varied for my liking
I've been exploring for hours, in hard survival mode, and I love it. So much variety. I still haven't seen a jungle biome. But of course it's rarer. Jungles used to be 1/10th the biomes, and now it's like 1/30th.

Well, maybe more random? In some places there are only like 3 or 4 veins every 30 blocks or so, and some areas they are every where.
