Is there any server in 1.7.3 ? miss lot of features
There is a way to do it. You get exalm's mods. You go on a 1.7.3 map in single player, explore a vast amount of it. set it as the world in smp, and there you go
I wish they brought the 1.73 generator, they were talking about floating islands, new world height and all that. But its gone, lost to 1.8. That where minecraft went downhill for me, I say they do soemthing about it since I can predict what everything is. Its just too easy now.
Change it! Its boring like meatloaf!

A guy took 2 videos of current terrain and old terrain and took a poll on which was which, and people got it wrong
There IS a difference. A HUGE difference. Why do you think we have 226 pages on this thread?
To put it simply, a lot of things are impossible in the current generator that were possible in the old one. In addition, a lot of things are needlessly ugly in the current generator.

I can't imagine that this was a good example showing all the variation you could get with old terrain. Floating land, clouds cutting through mountains, etc
It looks great and I'd really like to see something like that now, but I think that's a bit offtopic. It's a really early screenshot, where they were just trying out the village code IMHO (btw they had "new biome code" in plans since announcement of that update).
That was also before 1.7. They originally planned to release 1.7 Adventure Update, but it took too much time, so they released 1.7 with pistons and few other things that were finished (For example, new lighting was already implemented, but not ready for release, so they pushed it to 1.8.
If only they did not add biome height... fractal biomes are OK, but this? Plains could be done like Savanna, but that's what happens when they rush an update and in turn don't think.
Heh, and I managed to understand GenLayers too. My way of thinking:
1. It's a mess.
2. It's a mess because it's a fractal.
3. It's a mess because it's a fractal and it's a mess.
4. It's a mess because it's a fractal and it's a mess because of some reason Ice Plains are a GenLayer.
GenLayers are pretty straightforward if you don't touch fractal code.
However, they use several duplicating layers sometimes. And some of them are not used. init method returns array of 3 genlayers, but only first 2 of them are used.

My UA on laptop: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux i686; rv:27.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/27.0 SeaMonkey/2.24 Lightning/2.9b1; I use Ubuntu 13.10 here.
And on desktop: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux i686; rv:20.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/20.0; Here I use openSUSE 12.2.

Took too much time? If something takes "too much time" I wouldn't add it into the game until I have the time.

Well then whats your explanation as to what happened to terrain like in those teasers. If you ask me I think he might be right, they rushed it.
Which brings me to my next point. The 1.8 update was supposed to drive players to explore, by adding things like ravines, villages, strongholds, nether fortresses, and mineshafts. Originally, this worked out great. When the game updated it was awesome seeing those ravines for the first time. But there was something Mojang overlooked. Once you see their new features, you have seen it. When I see a ravine now, I know exactly what its going to be like.
What I'm trying to say is, they didn't even bother varying the features they added. Not only are the biomes repetetive, but the things you find are as well. Which is why having no structures yet no idea what you are going to find in the terrain is better.
If you combined the too... Say you found a world with really neat land, but also maybe theres something unique about the village you find?

That's what they did. They reverted new lighting, stronghold ruins etc and we got what we got.
Result: New cobblestone texture without new mossy cobble texture, shears, while placed leaves still decay, unused silverfish texture etc.
But in 1.8 they forgot about that and added half-finished generator. And while technical issues with it were fixed (Red flowers, snow), repetiveness is still not.
Also half-finished villages (We got testificates only in 1.9pre*/1.0.)
Half-finished experience without uses until 1.9*/1.0.
Mushroom islands were pushed for 1.9pre*/1.0.
Lighting engine was, and is buggy as hell. Especially since the 1.3.
Now we got completely unfinished server in singleplayer, which is even worse.
1. Go to youtube.
2. Search "minecraft seed 1.4.2"
3. Observe the titles of the videos, watch if you want."
4. Now search "minecraft seed 1.7.3"
5. Watch the videos.
Its actually really sad. What has the world come to.
No other game would add things without finishing them.. imagine battlefield with guns.. but they dont shoot, or fifa without a ball (even though that is a glitch but still)
Thats not NOT finished, thats entirely leaving a concept out of a game. FIFA without a ball actually has no ball, not an unfinished ball.
On the other hand, take Tales of Symphonia 2 for example, their overworld was rushed to meet the release deadline, thus they, crap I forgot they didn't have an overworld, this doesn't work, but lets say they had a rushed overworld. Could that be what happened with Mojang?
*spoiler censors offensive language (aka 2/3rds of this post)*
It's pretty obvious though. Mojang doesn't give a ing about any of us.
They don't give two s about their community. The one thing... ONE ING THING... that a majority of people want... they won't listen to. No, we are mother ing Mojang! We do what the we like, when we want to! Want a better generator? Fine, I'll add sliders to you can modify the amount of crappy biome per/mile^2!
Come on Mojang. Stop being so up yourselves and fix these ing problems. This isn't some issue like "I don't like hunger", this is a legitimate, agreed upon by the majority issue that you have yet to actually properly address. I understand that you have other priorites (like re-skinning a skeleton and making a witch) but I'd really like it if you took your heads out of your asses and just do something the community needs for once.
Building has gotten so boring because there isn't any complementary landscape to make my crappy house look nice...
Please Mojang... Please...

You might want to put a link to that thread.
