"Better" is just your opinion on the landscape generation. You can't believe that YOU know better than ME what I like right? We both have our opinions, only you're trying to enforce yours onto me because you think you're right! You're not, that's the thing.
That's true. Now, at this point, the likes can be discussed too, believe or no
Adventure update? more like the underground update
1.7.3 terrain was great, why they changed it is a mystery (to me, if you know the answer i really would like to know it) seriously, all it added was more reason the go mining and "adventuring" really they only adventure they added was the pain of exploring endless caves and getting lost, slowly starving... (i do enjoy the hunger bar btw). With their underground "improvements" i don't mind them its the fact that they neglected the surface, sure they added the new biomes and stuff, they just made it flat so people would have space to build their "mega castles" (there was enough space before). extreme hills looks like a rushed job to add the mountains they neglected. http://media-mcw.cur.../NotchRiver.jpg
this was what the adventure update was going to look like. That picture, in my opinion looks just as good as the 1.7.3, why because to me, it looks adventurous. To me there is noadventure in the current world generation
Now i have one question, why didn't they use the terrain in the image I posted?
I am currently hoping that bwg3 gold when its released, will fix this issue

Agree.
But while that screenshot is really good, terrain is already not varied there. Moutains are spammed together just like in EH, just covered with trees and with different colors.
Mojang did this purposely.
Minecraft is a game all about building
So having a nice build distracts you from the senary
So stop these threads about BORING LAND!! and do somthing productive with what you've got
But..
Swamps do look ugly so yeah i agree on that.

We don't want to build on ugly terrain.
Also, since in Beta every palce is unique, I easily remember where my house is placed, so I never get lost.
With current terrain I will get lost if I will go to another biome of same type. It will be exactly same.

Minecraft as we know it contains anywhere from boring (the middle of a particularly smooth plain) to bad (the same plain, but swiss-cheesed with caves) to disgusting (the middle of the ocean).
Good looking land is inspirational. When you see a nice overhang in 1.7.3, you might think "Oh, what a nice overhang! I could build something there!" and then a few days later Atlas is holding up the overhang.
When you see a similar overhang in 1.3.2, you look at it in disgust. You're in an EH biome, which is composed mainly of derpy mountains spammed together, caves, and bad grass coloring. You fly backwards away from it and try to find the least objectionable place to build.
TL;DR: What we had was inspirational. What we got was far from it.

Did something happen to you in your childhood to give you this unreasonable fear of rutabaga?
Two thousand people of you, try to change the game (the landscape gen in this occasion) because you don't like it. Well, the guys that like the landscape are way more than you, do you speak on their behalf too?
You again? Ugh... Let me just cut to the chase and let the standard definition of "Sampling" explain to you why this statement is one of the most misguided things on the thread.

Are you really asking me that? I just do man, why is it so difficult to understand that? Am I not entitled to have my own preferences?
I like Heavy Metal and let's say you don't. Are you going to ask me why I like it?
Wrong analogy buddy. A correct analogy is if we were supposed to be listening to a playlist that will suit everybody. Sure, I love metal, it's my favorite genre (symphonic metal...). But I'd like, and many other people would like to hear other genres. If you want to limit yourself, you can (ignore the terrain you don't like).
What we're doing will not remove anything from you.
I have to admit all the terriains seem really low tot he ground, i spawned some new terrain in my old worlds and theres a massive difference. granted the world height change but still, I loved the crazy overhangs and such you found everywhere in the past.
I haven't been having nearly as much fun exploring worlds in Minecraft lately, and I didn't really know why until I read this.
I love the biomes and new underground structutres/caves, but the lack of variety is quite noticeable. There used to be a harshness to the world that has been almost totally eliminated. The environments are so 'smooth' now, and they almost don't seem random anymore. Obviously, they're still randomly generated, but there was something amazing about finding a mountain or formation that looked like it couldn't exist in reality. A cave or pit that didn't really make sense, but it was still an exciting find. There's nothing exciting, surprising, confusing, or awe-inspiring to find anymore, just more predictable terrain.
It has definitely taken a lot of the fun out of creating new worlds. I'd love to see the height generation remain separate from the biome generation. It would be great to start seeing more variety again.
I don't like mountains being spammed everywhere, but with the changes we're pushing for, those will still exist. And you know what? I will just ignore them.
This is unacceptable. 1.3.2 seemed to have brought back some of the epicness of 1.7.3. At least I thought. Then I used NBXlite again, and... yeah right....
Jeb and Dinnerbone seem to have seen this thread (because 1.3 is getting better from 1.2 and below), but it will take a LOT of time to fix the damage Notch did at beta 1.8, because like you said, there is no point in just putting the old generator back. They need to fix this, and they are, but it appears to be very low priority right now. that is too bad. Notch created one of the greatest games ever, and yet probably broke it as well.

Some people really need to stay away from the government propaganda department. Let the brain-washing machines have a day off, they must need maintenance by now.
i do really miss the old generation as there was more to explore... almost everywhere i went was a surprise, with something crazy around the corner! (One of the things i will really miss are the gravel beaches...) But now i feel that all i get is flatness everywhere, with nothing new just a copy paste of terrain...
