To sum it all up. I'm just saying breaking the law is breaking the law. Piracy is breaking the law. I personally don't care if you do it or don't. I'm just stating that to come on here and try to justify "like others are doing" that because you cant afford it makes it ok to do so is foolish. That's all. If your gonna steal it then steal it and move on. But just don't come on here and try to justify it.
Everyone has pirated at some point, and none of you can deny it truthfully.
Actaully, I for one can say I have not pirated. Truthfully. I'm being serious on that one. The ones who cannot deny it are lacking in morals.

For backwards time travel to be possible, wouldn't every instant in the universe have to be stored somewhere, or time to be something physical you could travel through? Either way doesn't work with the current laws of physics.

Your Youtube channel contains copyrighted content that you are using without permission, which is as illegal to transmit as a Minecraft download. You are actually the one providing pirated content.

Youtube videos do not count, as the video of the gameplay itself is not copyrighted, the game itself is. I am not giving away copies of the game. I am simply showing sample gameplay, which, in itself is not copyrighted. For instance, if you show a video of a game of, oh, lets say Air Hockey, and the logo of the table is shown, you are not pirating that Air Hockey Table, you are just showing gameplay from it.

Dude, just find the game earlier, like I did. The game was only 10 bucks. But holy crap, I had to that many chores? Yeah my dad didn't want to buy it because he is stubborn, but he did after all.
Agreed. All we are saying is that it is illegal. Not that pirating is O.K. because "everyone" apparently does it, that it has a possibility of helping sales, etc.
Even if the Op thought it was right to pirate from Mojang, he/she wouldn't make this topic. The reason no one's opinion is changing here is because it is not our argument. It is an argument between the Op and his/her conscience. Just leave this thread alone; we are not helping anyone here or changing their thoughts.
Just make this thread off-limits.
As long as this thread is up, then I, you and anyone else has the right to post in here. Also, you say leave the thread alone but you still made a post. Just go away and practice what you preach!
But the most ridiculous part must be when you said "The reason no one's opinion is changing here is because it is not our argument." You have no way to know if the thread has changed anyone's opinion about pirating software. And regardless of what anyone thinks, not everyone pirates software. The majority may, and even some who think they dont may do so un-knowingly. But still, everyone doesn't do it.
Group A will never buy software and will always pirate it.
Group B will pirate software if it gets expensive or if it gets too much DRM.
Group C will never pirate software.
Group A pirates software. The company takes notice and attaches DRM to the software or increases its price. Group B now gets tired of this and begins pirating the software. Groups A and B are now getting a free pass, whilst Group C is inundated by irritating DRM.
We're still in the early stages, thankfully. Personally, I don't really agree with pirating (save for pirating a piece of software after legitimately purchasing it, just so that I can get around the cussing annoying DRM).

I personally do not see how DRM could be annoying, unless they do something such as have the login screen check your files every time you log in to see if it were legitimate. Which, wouldn't be too much of a bother with MC, being that it takes up hardly any disc space, but with games like Starcraft II and Diablo III, which take up about 12 Gig of space for the game itself, and have 2 gig patches sometimes, this could be VERY anoying.

I'm talking about things like Online Passes, Always-Online DRM, Securom, and EA's Origin service- things that just get obtrusive and in your face. They're cracked within hours of release and do nothing but make games more annoying for legitimate customers.
I can't play two of my games right now. UT3 is demanding a CD key (again) and BF2142 won't start without the disc (which is scratched).

Oh yes, a pass which you can not change, and is just a random sequence of numbers and letters that you have to put in every time you login, that too, could be very annoying.

Anyway, back to the main topic, Pirating is bad. Period. of full legality.

I'll admit that when I was a teen, up until my early twenties, I pirated a lot of games... but now that I've got a job, I pay for all my games, and most of my music even.

It's amazing to see what passes for normal, and ethical these days. Simple rule, can't buy it for some reason, that doesn't mean you should just take it. For instance, if there is some nice computer, that you don't have the money to buy, should you just be able to walk up and take it just because you couldn't get it legally? Nearly all of us can answer that correctly, and yet you can't answer the one you are talking about correctly.

Ok you know what people I'm leaving my piece at this:
Pirating IS illegal. but Notch said it was fine. He's cool with it. if you guys aren't cool with it it's your problems, not the piraters and not Notch's.
No one's really being harmed by cracking the game.
People who are saying this is giving homeless people and poor people a reason to steal, no it's not.
Number one homeless people probably dunno what minecraft is in the first place and have't access to a computer.. NOTE I said probably. Some might. Poor people most of them can't afford a computer either.
Note I said most.
Second of all. This thread is getting nowhere. we're just screaming about something that has never mattered in internet history for years. We're arguing about pirating. Justifying it or not, the fact of the matter is it's illegal, but it's been told already by the creator himself that he's fine and endorses pirating. if we're gonna argue about pirating go argue about people who are SELLING the game for money themselves taking actual money from Notch. If your downloading for your own purpose it's one thing, but selling it is where pirating really hurts companies. If we're gonna argue, just argue about the people who are f*cking Notch over by selling it for profit. All the OP is asking is to leave the players who are just playing it for themselves alone.
Likewise, all I'm saying is that pirating isn't always considered theft. It's dependant. What is a pirate? A person who takes things that don't belong to him or her for personal profit or gain.
Pirates on the internet take things that don't belong to them. HOWEVER, in the case of games, it can be rather tricky to consider someone a bad or good pirate (yes there is such thing.) A bad pirate is the one who is harming the economy and the company's profits by selling their work for profit. Example: Let's say there was a person SELLING cracked versions of games, like MineCraft, for half the price Mojang sells.. Half price, alot of people would spring for if they didn't know they could get it free on other sites. This guy is harming the company and profiting himself.
A good pirate is rather neutral. He won't harm the company by getting a cracked or distributed version from another person for free. A good example, a person can't afford or doesn't want to pay 20 bucks for the game, for whatever the reason may be. If he is only planning to use the game for himself, and he didn't buy it from a pirate who is selling the cracked version, he is not effecting the company in any way. Some companies actually benefit from this because their "future customers" get to try out the game before they buy it. Most cracked versions that are free still have a hard time accessing servers as well, unless the server host allows the person in. This just basically shows most cracked versions, as someone stated before, can be considered a demo.
None the less at least the OP isnt selling the game. He's just trying to support the people who are unable to get it themselves. Would you rather he support those greedy pirates who take just because they don't give a flying sh*t?
I had the cracked version for about a week just to see if it was all worth it, and it defintely was. Just save up.
If you are wondering why we don't move on, why don't you just move on? I mean really, do what you tell others to do.
Actaully, I for one can say I have not pirated. Truthfully. I'm being serious on that one. The ones who cannot deny it are lacking in morals.

If you ever burnt a CD off a friend, you pirated.
LMAO! Very nicely done.

Why would the mods put a perfectly good thread off limits?
No, I have not. The question is, have you?

Plenty of people care.
