I was working on my adventure map and testing out my creeper trap, when all of a sudden, it hit me; is Notch covertly filling the world with circles and spheres?
Think about it; first, there were eggs and slimeballs. While there is no doubt that they are vaguely rounded, pixels and all, it didn't raise any alarms. After all, they did serve their respective purposes - eggs being portable poultry spawners and cake ingredients, and slimeballs being arbitrary collectibles in obscure custom maps (oh, and they make sticky pistons.) But then, it happened - experience orbs.
Yes, Notch did give them a purpose, but the levelling doesn't do anything as of 1.8.1. Could this be another ruse to covertly increase the number of circles? Could notch be planning a nefarious scheme to launch the "Circle and Sphere Update?" As if that wasn't enough, Creepers, the game's unofficial mascot, have been given a new explosion animation; mind you, a circular explosion animation.
Now, I may be overreacting, but the very idea chills me. No doubt others in the cuboid-loving side of Minecraft will agree.
You should have a don't care option. People have been building spheres in game for a long time. Plus there isn't a single item outside of blocks that is a square. Meat isn't square, mushrooms are not square. Bottles, maps, books, shovels, etc... are not square.
You've picked a single shape that bothers you, even though the game is filled with much more than blocks. Grass isn't square, flowers are not squares, sugar cane is not a square. Hell, various water and lava flows have angles in them.
Let's make a list of everything that ISN'T a square, it'll be the larger list.
Has anybody mention that the shapes your talking about AREN'T spheres?... How can you be worried about the geometry of a game when you don't understand it yourself? :dry.gif:

If Notch cuts any more corners we'll be digging up spheres...

Yes, you have a point, but the odd thing about circles is... that. While people build spheres, you can still see the cubes comprising the sphere. Although the circles in Minecraft are simply made up of pixles, it's the very shape of the circle that intrigues me.
Take, for example, the pork chop. There are only four (4) items that exist with that shape; the cooked and uncooked varieties of pork and steak. Now, the question is about circles. Seeing circles in a game so famous for its cubic shapes and square angles feels out of place, for the reason stated.

Sorry if our semantics are wrong. We're just using what many people say are spheres; that is, circular objects.

i do understand where your comming, from, but im not sure why you would bother spending do much time on this post, and also remember, the spheres are made out of squares, does it really matter what shape the sun is in?

Same as always; Minecraft.

You know you want to click it ---->
you can divide any regular shape into triangles. so you could make a 1000 sides shape with just triangles.

Most of the Texture packs do it, why can't the default? It looks a lot better. (In my opinion.)
CIRCLE DOWN THE DRAIN!
