Ok, so they can FINALLY be stacked on top of each other, AWESOME. But wait... I have to have a block underneath them? What if I want to string them along horizontally? I STILL have to put something underneath them.
Ok, with normal blocks, you can add them to the side of something without requiring another block underneath it. Fences require that there be some kind of "ground" for the fence post to go into.
In order to string them along horizontally, above the ground, you need to first "build" the ground, place the fences, and then go back and remove the "ground."
*example*
There's no fence smiley, so "stick" will be the fence icon.
So I'm making a street light, like this.
[temp. ground here][ :--+:]
In order to extend the 3 fence pieces over, above the ground, you have to first build a temporary ground to place them.
Is this more clear, or should I upload a screen shot?
Since there's such an easy, but time consuming, work around to the "problem," what's the point to requiring there be a block underneath fences?
ever tried to build a suspended fence in real life, shts not easy unless you got something underneath it. (and don't say "herp derp minecraft =/= realistic because it does take realism into consideration quite a bit)

Half-assed fix, if you ask me.
um just put dirt on the ground, put the fence on the dirt, brake the dirt

so he's too lazy to place a piece of dirt under.

Right, but that's just an extra step I have to do. I thought they were supposed to have fixed that, but all we get is that they can be easily stacked.
Yes, helpful post. When I'm making a large build, it's very time consuming to do that an extra 200 times.
I guess people who use inventory editors are "too lazy" too?
Arguably, yes. People do not want to spend 6 hours mining for 300 iron or whatever, so they take the shortcut of using an editor.
I haven't seen blocks floating in mid-air or buckets that contain waterfalls, either.
Water in Minecraft infinity flows down, however, you are not technically containing a waterfall in a Bucket.
You're still suspending blocks in mid air...
This is a video game... designed to be creative lol.
