So, after watching that video they have just posted on the main page, I am VERY excited about the pistons. There's only one thing i'm not too happy about. When I hear they were coming out with pistons, I though " i'm gonna build a secret storage device, that will only be visible when i flip a switch!". Sadly, the video showed that storage boxes are not able to be pushed :sad.gif:
Anyone else have something they'd like to say about the pistons? I'd like to hear other opinions on it.
They should do that! I know it can propel sand and gravel, because they fall and whatnot.
Maybe if you were to punch the TNT and then start the piston? Because when TNT is punched it is given sand characteristics

So can't you make a niche in the wall where the storage chest lies behind and move the wall instead of the chest to give the same effect?
True, the boxes can't be moved, but the blocks around it can be moved. I hope they kept pistons pushing each other.
... lol I didn't even think about that..
So I could possibly put a block in front of the storage, and just use the piston to move it out of the way an reveal the storage. This kinda looks more like a secret door in my opinion though
I like that idea, but id much rather have the storage block move, give it that kinda futuristic characteristic i guess? be

Yeah i think that's what i'm gonna have to go with, it's a great idea. I wish i would just download the mod and start practicing now, rather than sitting back imagining everything
Well, when i heard that 1.7 was going to have pistons, i thought this would be a perfect opprotunity to build an amazing TNT cannon, but i noticed in the video that they only launch blocks about a block high, but im sure there's many other things i can make..
Hippopppatmus said he would work on a little mod that would restore the piston to work like his mod. But I am disappointed with the "official" pistons as well.
@CrayolaCrackers cannons will not work in the "offical" version.

yeah i figured they would take out some things that the maker of the mod put in.
But people will still make some amazing things, i already know it
About the launching in the air thing, remember that he was using levers, not buttons. They could work differently
Jeb tweeted that there will be no jump/ throw effect and that "it would be opening up a can of worms" in regarding getting pistions to push chest and furnaces.
I'm hopping Hippo's fix will be a bucket plug in as well because I wanted to make a roller coaster in smp that juggled the riders.
None the less the Official pistons look cool and the animation is smother then the mod. I am hoping that there is a jump block added that w/ combination to the piston we can achieve some of the same things we where able to do with the pistons. Because it was always the jumping/ throwing aspect of the pistons that I found fun to play with.

yeah i thought that was a very neat idea. I also liked the Watergate. I always tried making a Watergate with doors, but water couldn't flow through :/
Hide the chest 2 blocks in the wall, and using a sticky piston, pull down a block in the wall, revealing the chest!

They did: http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/379961-piston-elevators/
I have a feeling that will be for a future update...
*hint hint* Spring block!
