I propose a gamemode in Minecraft that allows you to break blocks with the same speed and universality as Creative Mode, but not to place them. To access this mode, one would have to use a command (/gamemode 3). Naturally, the inventory would also be inaccessible. This mode would also include nine tools, in addition to breaking blocks with your bare hands, that destroy blocks efficiently:
Pre-primed TNT
3 larger explosives with an appearance similar to TNT (possibly recolored) that each explode a different radius. The radii I am considering are 10 blocks, 20 blocks, and 50 blocks (if you have other ideas for the radii, please post them below)
A 3*3 block eraser that replaces the 3*3, including the block you right-click, with air, with that block being the center of whatever side you click from.
A 9*9 block eraser that works the same as the 3*3
A 3*3 transparent block/tile entity filter, whose job is to clear blocks such as signs, item frames, chests, beds and brewing stands, among others, from an area. The blocks it clears also stem from the right-clicked block in the same way as the block eraser.
A 3*3 tool that is exclusively a sign and item frame filter
A bucket that can pick up the water source block clicked and all those adjacent to it, all those adjacent to those adjacent to it, etc
These tools create a great way to clear areas in projects that don't call for WorldEdit. The reason I want to reserve these tools for this gamemode is for the benefit of creative servers, who would have to deal with big problems if they were simply part of Creative Mode.
If you like my idea, please show your support below. If you have any questions or concerns, please say so below as well.

That gamerule keeps tile entities from being dropped when broken. The tile entity tool destroys tile entities. Big difference. The other functions of this mode are also not possible by simply doing that gamreule.

This seems... rather silly. I understand wanting to have an item that clears out things easily, but an entire gamemode? I would probably only want a creative only item for these kinds of things. Until then, no support.

Ah, I see. This seems a lot more feasible now. Would this be an option on the world create screen, or would it be accessible by command only?

Pointing out fallacies to undermine an argument is also a fallacy...

You could use client-side mods to do all most of these, given you had all the correct permissions on the server (SSP world wouldn't be a problem at all though).
Edit: If you wanted to do this all in SSP, modding would definitely be the way to go. It would resolve the tile entity dropping, and everything else, given the correct modifications to the base files (or overrides).

Hmm, you seem you want more a way to get loads of diamonds fast, than a way to clear out a large area in order to build in it.

But I want these in vanilla. Mojang tends to do a better job than modders of making features less likely to crash the game (As Singleplayer Commands does on mine). Just because something is in a mod is not a justification for not adding them to vanilla.

Also, just learn to use McEdit already.
No support.
This doesn't help you with diamonds. It's only accessible through a command, so the only way it could get you diamonds would be if you were cheating. Also, the reason I propose limited versions of features accessible through MCEdit and WorldEdit is because I believe that people should not have to use MCEdit to do minimal, but tedious tasks in Creative building. If someone sees that they have made a mistake or needs to cut off a certain area, they should not need to go back into MCEdit just to fix it. They deserve an easy way to fix it while still in the game, and without having to mod it.

To be honest, Mojang would most likely not add this. Plus, as a company, of course Mojang has less bugs than a modder. One is paid to get things done right. The other is doing it because they find it fun (or some other reason).
Also, think of the servers. Lets say Mojang did implement this. How long would it be before the griefing community made mods that would abuse this feature? Knowing some of the people in that community, I'd give it a few hours before total chaos would ensue.

I never said it would be added. But, look at Mo' Creatures. It's developer essentially gave permission to Mojang to use the horses from his mod. Hoppers? That was a mod for awhile. Mojang takes a lot of inspiration from the modding community.
Though I know this won't be added, it has no point, and it doesn't really make sense, I support. I mean, it's fun to be destructive sometimes, so why not? Besides, there is a difference between change something in minecraft, or adding something to minecraft. This is adding something, not changing anything. So support. Now, don't everyone say "this idea is stupid, you shouldn't support" or "your dumb because you support". I'm not supporting because I think it is amazing, I'm supporting because I can, and it won't change anything.

It says somewhere that you aren't allowed to just say that mods are the answer.

The incentive of money driving Mojang is exactly why I think it's better for a feature like this to bevanilla than in a mod.Mojang knows they have to get it right. Modders can wait a while before a patch, and the community, however upset they are, will notreally be able to do as much about it.

You can't abuse something without having access to it in the first place. Users of hack mods can't go into Creative Mode, so how do you expect people on a survival server to access Destructive Mode?

Perhaps what you want could be accomplished with a new command. Just give /setblock the option of doing a region centered on [the player, or whatever], instead of one block at a time.
Or, another possible tool, give the player the enderdragon's property of destroying blocks that you collide with.

I think you are going to love my Survival Let's Play series on YouTube! It's called Spaceboot1's Garden. I make pretty things.
You would be surprised how easily things are broken. Why do you think there's was a rushed 1.6.4?
Mojang employees aren't clairvoyant. They can't tell well in advance whether or not there is going to be a change to Minecraft that breaks something old. The fact that 1.6.4 came so quickly after the first snapshots shows how much Mojang cares about people's worlds. A modder would definitely take longer to fix such a problem.

That's a possibility. I don't think that commands to destroy larger numbers of blocks accomplish what I want Destructive Mode to accomplish though. It's much faster to click something and delete it than to type in a command to do so. The Ender Dragon idea is pretty enticing, though.

The quickest way to destroy terrible-looking buildings. However, if it was applied on griefers, imagine their rage at the server, causing loads of havoc.

Command only. I don't see a need to put it in that screen. That does give me an idea for a suggestion, however.

You really don't get this idea, do you? He's not doing to get diamonds fast. Did you even read that you can't blocks if you are in this gamemode.

I know. In the next post I made, I explain one of the reasons why Mojang wouldn't implement it if presented with the choice (Server security).
