In real life, the burning bush looks like a, bush that is light purple in color. I have one in my backyard. Its even got prickly pokers on it! Its called the burning bush, well because read this from Wikipedia: The burning bush is an object described by the Book of Exodus[3:1–22] as being located on Mount Horeb; according to the narrative, the bush was on fire, but was not consumed by the flames, hence the name.[1]
That's basically the story of why its called the "burning" bush.
My Minecraft version:
It looks the same as how I described it in real life. Or at least almost. It also has wood. Under all the light purple leaves, you can find one log that is black and brown in color. Wooden planks made out of this are dark black with a bit of purple.
Where is it found?
It will naturally generate in the Nether. Around lava (mostly). It cannot catch on fire, but will "absorb" the fire. Meaning that the fire will not burn it, but it will burn inside of it. You can tell if a burning bush is on fire because it changes from light purple to bright orange, you can actually see the fire inside of it through the leaves, and lots of smoke rise above the specific leave on fire. The log cannot catch on fire also.
Lava cannot catch the leaves on fire, and if you make a fire on it with flint and steel, the leaves will absorb the fire, like is said. Grows on Nether-rack, soul sand, and dirt. Grows fastest on Nether-rack.
Also, the leaves and log can be mined with your hand, an axe or a pic axe. Its faster to mine with pick axe and axe though.
Also, if on fire, and player walks into it, player will take damage and not burn unless they stand on top of it.
Over-world Invasion:
If you plant a Burning bush sapling in the over world (drops for the leaves from time to time) it will grow within 5 days (faster if its next to lava, or bone meal of course.) But when it does grow, the leaves spread very rapidly. Every day the leaves will multiply by six two leaves (for 10 days). So, actually, it can be a burden to have this plant in the over-world (then again, with added fire, these could make a devious trap.). Like so: (sorry background looks funny. Made a custom resource pack for this, got carried away.)
Remember, they DO NOT spawn in the over world. One must plant a sapling of one in it.

Ouatcheur- Stone qualities added to the burning bush.
Deonyi- Burning bush can grow in soul sand also.
This would be cool to see in the nether here and there. But in the above world it would look out of place and I don't think something that spreads like that would look good there. The pictures are nice.

Well, if you dont think it looks good there, dont plant it in the over world!
This is a good suggestion, I support. I just don't think that a burning bush sapling planted in the Overworld should have its leaves multiply by 6 everyday for 10 days.
I like effort that you put into it. I could see this bush sprinkled here and there in the nether. I sorta like that you didn't make its leaves have a drop for a potion or whatever. Most people don't realize that sometimes things in minecraft just are. And that not everything in minecraft needs to have a direct use. Like bats. I don't see this bush fitting in with the over world though. So half support.

Thats why they dont spawn in the over world. You have to plant there sapling there.
Can you craft wooden things out of it's wood? If so, maybe support. I don't know how I feel about wood items being avaiable in the nether.
If they were implemented though, I feel like this would be the correct way to do it. Maybe make the wood be charred wood or something and have a smokey grey appearance.

Yup.
And to the people who think that this is OP because it gives you wood in the neather, its only 1 piece per bush for crying out loud!
Seems great, as a new plant. Why wouldn't it's leaves resist fire but not it's wood, tough? Weird.
As for the "wood in the nether" problem: maybe you nee to harvest it with a pickaxe instead of an axe, and it's wood has more the attributes of stone, than true wood!
In any case the "growing" seems weirdly balanced and looks a bit weird.

I'd rather not have them in the over world. Imagine on SMP people planting these and with the exponential growth it seems a bit much.

And if it generates sparingly players will have to travel far which in the nether not an easy task always.
I support.
An alternate timeline emerges.
However, we must first start from the beginning...
