What would be the point in it? What circumstances would there be no way at all or not desirable at all to put blocks behind normal ladders? Also iron seems a bit too expensive maybe?
The point of this is having a shiny iron looking ladder for your builds.

Yes. Yes I do.
I don't think it's a bad thing, besides the economic fact that it may cost a lot of iron. Even if it would have advanced physics, ladders are ladders, and they help you reach things.
i'v been thinking and i finally have thought of a way to make this seem a little less exspensive ( it'll give you bang for your buck).
firstly i would make the ladders recipe just as you have it, except some of those iron ingot would be string pieces. essentially:
/= string
[ ]=iron ingots
X=empty block
[ ] X [ ]
/ / /
[ ] X [ ]
Thats the recipe now, this would create only 1-3 ladders, but the thing is that each placement of a ladder is only the starter piece ( which is one block long and has to be placed on a solid block type). once the starter piece is placed (with the left click), it must be tethered to another solid block (like the ground or the top starter piece of another ladder via right clicking) within its same vertical column. and as long as they are within the same vertical column and the distance between them isn't too far apart(say no more than 16-19 blocks) then the game creates a free standing ladder between these points. since you get 16-19 blocks with this the recipe can be a little more expensive.
also if you place these types of ladders horizontally across a hole, and connect them in the middle with wooden planks, it forms a drawbridge
Make iron BARS be crafted from two iron, like regular sticks, and give you two bars when you craft it. Then make the iron bars block be crafted from bars, and this recipe wouldn't change. Of course, it should give you three iron ladders, just like regular ladders.
And iron isn't that expensive, really. I have almost a stack of iron blocks on one server.

Yes. Yes I do.
why not just use iron ingots?

Yes, that would be cool, and it would make it more worth it. But, as I said before, IF it's added to the game, it's up to the developers

The banner is amazing. I'll put it on as soon as I get home, right now I'm at a high school graduation, so I'm on my phone...
