Okay I've been toying around with the idea of shark items and I've come up with a few ideas.
Raw Flake - Food, heals one heart more than raw pork/steak. Odd chance of poisoning the player.
Fried/Cooked Flake - Heals one heart more than cooked pork/steak. Odd chance of giving the player a water-breathing status.
...or it could be used in a brewing stand to create the desired effect, but with a potion.
The player could also enchant a chestplate with either flake (using an anvil) to give it the Thorns ability, similar to how sharks are known for having rough skin. When used with a helmet, will give the enchantment Respiration.
I'm still on the edge with these ideas, so feel free to let me know what you think!
Just posting this here, in case anyone missed it!
Also added to/edited the first post a little.
Also also mirrored the thread here.
I definitely like the idea, bodies of water in Minecraft are pretty boring right now, and this would be a good addition. One suggestion, the shark's eyes should turn red when it is hostile. Also, will it try to move towards water when on land or will it just sit there and die? Good idea support.

sorry; I use, way too much, 'punctuation', it's a habit...

For the eyes, it might be a possibility, although it seems strange due to the fact that feels like the wolve's gimmick. As for when it's pulled on land, it would definately try to turn tail and escape, but not too successfully I think. And thanks for the support!
When I first read "Nurse Shark" I thought something completely different.
I thought you meant a combination of renard and Mayhem. (Same person, but two aliases. Also, no, I'm not a furry, I just like the music.)
lol..
But yeah, I support. this is a cool idea and would make the waters more interesting, and this shark is a lot better than the one in mo' creatures.

You might want to add a poll. If it shows enough support, then this (or something similar) might actually be added in the upcoming "mob update".
A poll?
I'm not used to making polls, do you guys think that it should be structured in a typical yes/no manner or a yes/yes manner to simply see if people like it?
I'm interested if there are any guidelines to making interesting polls as well, so maybe someone could link me to some of those that would be great! Heh, maybe I'll have to make a poll for what the poll should be about!
Also, I'm thinking about whether or not they would spawn near shore/shallow water, so the only time you'd risk bumping into them with your boat you're already at the shore!

There's probably a guide in the "forums support" (or whatever it's called) forum. You might want to search there.

Thanks.
I've been made aware that nurse sharks typically live far out in the oceans; so they should primarily hang out at the bottom of whatever body of water (still unable to destroy boats) but occasionally visit/spawn at beaches.

I think they should be able to spawn anywhere in an ocean biome. It might be more realistic if they all stayed at the bottom of the sea, but it would be more fun if you could see them frequently. Remember, gameplay>realism.

You make a good point. I'm only worried about if someone would find it frustrating if their boat broke in the ocean and they've have to go swimming for several minutes to find land to just put a crafting table on.
But I guess that would be okay if sharks swam barely under range or even try to maneuver themselves around boats.
This is quite a creative take on the "shark" idea everybody's been throwing around since the beginning of forever.
It's also a good way to educate and troll people. Many people, especially younger people, aren't familiar with nurse sharks or the fact that they're essentially harmless aside from their skin, unless provoked. So by your suggestion, Minecraft might actually educate the people who are tempted to run away or attack it on impulse when they first encounter it.
And as for the boat thing, nah. Nurse sharks generally traverse the bottom of oceans, where the light level is much dimmer, so it would be pretty infrequent for them to bump into anything at all on the surface. That said, I'm starting to see that there's a LOT of potential for what we can put at the bottom of the ocean, and uniformity would be pretty unrealistic.
Okay thanks, and youre welcome!
P.S. I should say, this is the first ever Shark thread which I would love to add in Minecraft
No problem! And thanks for the complement.
