So I've been playing a few different RPG's lately, and I remembered/recognized a repeating theme to many of the puzzles: Block Puzzles. This made me think about making a puzzle map using block puzzles, but I realized that there aren't movable blocks without the aid of pistons. So here's my idea:
Add 5 new types of blocks, each can be dyed either with the "new" leather armor dying mechanic, or just using the 16 colors of wool. These blocks would be:
Sliding Block - a new block which is only able to be placed on top of the later-mentioned Slippery Blocks, converted or created. These can be pushed by left clicking with a hand or non-tool item and pulled by right clicking with a hand or non-tool item. The blocks move 1 meter per click, and have the same size/collision as a chest. They also follow gravity rules similar to sand and will replace some blocks/items which they land on (all items which get "washed away" by water)
Gliding Block - a new block which is controlled similarly to the Sliding Block, however, this cannot be pulled, and will only stop moving when colliding with another block, or reaching the end of the Slippery Blocks (it will not slide off, onto normal blocks). These also are affected by gravity and will remove the same types of blocks/items.
Slippery Blocks - these new blocks allow the Sliding and Gliding blocks to move on top of them. They are not affected by gravity. The player will "sink" into them, similar to Soul Sand, but will not be slowed. The player moves as if standing on ice while on these blocks.
Pressure-Sensitive Blocks (Stopping) - These blocks produce a redstone signal when either a Sliding or Gliding Block is placed/moved on top of it. This will catch Gliding Blocks, stopping from sliding past. Blocks which land on this block will be locked in place, and must be broken to be moved (Adventure maps!), or moved via pistons. The redstone signal translates down to the block it is placed on, as well as from the side faces, but not into horizontal-neighboring blocks nor upward at all. This signal will travel across 15 redstone (or 16, whichever levers/buttons do ).
Pressure-Sensitive Blocks (Slippery) - The blocks function exactly the same as the Stopping variant, however Gliding Blocks will slide over them, and blocks will not be locked upon it. A block sliding across it will not generate a redstone signal; only once a block is stationary upon it will it generate a redstone signal.
Tell me what you think!
Crafting Recipes - White blocks represent empty space, roses represent redstone dust, water represents Ice Blocks. I used red wool here, but I'm thinking the color of wool will determine the color of the block, and can be combined with a dye in the crafting table to change its color.

Pressure-Sensitive Block (Stopping):
<- That half slab is a stone pressure plate.
Adding new movable blocks like this kind of ruins the point of pistons existing.
Since these blocks will only be moveable by the player, they can't be automated. Pistons will still be great for numerous redstone contraptions and basically everything they are currently used for.

Won't be good for vanilla but would be a perfect mod......SUPPORT
There should also be a block where sliding and gliding blocks can go to, but will stop there. Though cn be moved again if pushed/pulled. I dont know... Just a stopper?
And maybe when a Sliding or a Gliding block lands there, it will create a Redstone Signal?

Mayhaps i'll edit the Locked Pressure-Sensitive to have a right-click toggle on whether or not it permanently locks a block on it.
Update: I changed the Locking Pressure-Sensitive block to merely a Stopping Pressure-Sensitive block. This change allows the player to push or pull blocks off of it after they land, however it still will stop Gliding blocks on top of it.
I support the idea, it would be nice to be able to hide passages by making them with blocks that can be moved by the player. I mean I would want to tuck away a hidden entrance somewhere that could be accessed if pushed against and once inside a switch would trigger a piston to push the blocks back into the original place.
It would give it a good "secret passage" feel, and could probably be used in a variety of ways.
But the only benefit I see is for mini-games or puzzle games, it has no use for survival minecraft. If you can list reasons why this would be helpful in vanilla minecraft (besides being a feature for puzzle or mini games) that would be helpful.

We already have pistons.
Read the OP. He means doing it by hand for a certain new block (useful for adventure map puzzles).

Until then, No support.
