After you reach 970 blocks above sea level, every block you go up causes the
sky to darken and slowly fade away into a permanent night skybox and your
greavity is slowly reduced, until you reach 1300 blocks, where your gravity is
at 25% of normal and the skybox changes to the night sky. You wouldn't suffocate
or freeze or anything. It would be exactly the same but with lower gravity and
black fog.
It wouldn't need to require anything "techy" to reach or survive in, just
a really huge tower.
ok that many chunks wouldn't load...... BUT.. .lets say they did....
36 of the old chunks makes for 2,359,296 blocks
while 200 of the new chunks makes for 819,200
and MATH! F*** YAH!!! lol =p

If you went by earth standards..... you would have to go 8749 blocks up before you would have trouble breathing acutely.... and 100,000 before you would be considered legally in space.
But i'm sure if people wanted to they would make mods to make it possable to have stuff up that high.

A: The number of chunks has less impact on memory usage than the size they encompass.
B: Did you really read into it? I said the effect was based on falling speed. You would need to be falling for at least 30 blocks for the effects to really be seen. In any case, the 'blindness' is only horizontally. What could you possibly need to see as you're falling extremely fast past it?
C: The light system is less complicated than the original chunk system, which Notch has done.
By defult minecraft loads 21x21 chunks...... Thats 441 chunks.... thats 28,901,376 blocks!!!!
EVEN IF you DID load a sphere of these chunks 21 chunks wide.... that would be 5017 chunks!... that is a lot of chunks but it's only 20,549,632 blocks.....
So even if you did have to load as much a distance in every derrection (and you won't) you would still be loading EIGHT MILLION BLOCKS LESS!!!!!
Thats a lot of blocks..... more than 127 of the old chunks worth.
So even if some how this system had to load the number of chunks some people seam to think it would have to.... it would still be loading 29% less data.... and be 29% less laggy.....
In truth it would likely be more like 75% less or more.....
THIS is why I've been pushing this idea for 2 and a half years......... it would be a total game changer.... literally.... .and in only the best of ways.

+1 support
This is being said after getting kicked out of an FTB single player world multiple times because of internal server lag. I will also add that my computer has more than enough power to run Minecraft well (I never had performance issues before 1.4). I almost considered playing 1.2.5 again because of it.
Better chunk handling? You've got my vote!
Basicly, the new thing in my thread is (since this will be possible) a bigger underground area.
I'll edit the front post to include data like this for skeptics.
I didn't look into the topic much, yet at least. However, the main thing this suggestion is addressing is the chunk system. I don't want to get into the terrain change portion of it because it'd be too tangentally off-topic, and the terrain suggestion could be a deal-breaker for some people. I wouldn't want to lose support on this over something like that.
But! If this gets enough support, I plan to have a sister suggestion post to this one that addresses the 3D biome and chunk identifier systems, and I may get into terrain there.
Also, if you support this suggestion, you should use the rep button - it makes it so much easier for me to count support, and it also adds your minecraft face to the support bar beneath the post!
I'm saying even if it did.... it would SILL reduce lag.

But increase the max height by a lot. Yes, A LOT! I would say 2048 blocks in height. That's 8 times as high as the current height limit.
It's more about having less lag and better chunk loading system

There would be no way to fall that far..... lol.... have you ever found anything in minecraft that was a natural drop from surface to bedrock?
At the most with the chunk system you might fall 3~5 chunks maybe from natural formations. The only way you would fall more than that is if you mined a bore hole and jumped in.

Be pretty neat if it did, though.
(P.s. hell's frying pan? you mean Death Valley?)
This should make the game run at the very very very very least, 4~5 times faster. That's loading new chunks above ground and moving fast.
