A jungle looks different than a taiga but a jungle looks exactly the same as another jungle.
It is a fact the biomes were made worse in 1.8. IF you dont understand visit this thread: http://www.minecraft...g-one-year-old/
what do jungles have to do with anything? we're talking about swamps
what is that sentence supposed to even mean? Of course a jungle doesn't look like a taiga, IT'S A JUNGLE
and don't hate on jungles either those things are huge resource farms
He's using a texture pack in the first picture. I don't like the way it looks with the texture pack, but I can just refrain from using it. If you want to prove that something is ugly, I wouldn't use a texture pack to do so because most people that are here probably don't use it

I love swamps, great to start in, providing food and wood and a nice flat land to build on. Witch huts are great if you can build a farm. Slimes above ground are a great addition too, although I think their spawning should be dialed back a bit. I LOOK for swamps to build in.
i usally run into a swamp biome, and im not annoyed. i like to chop trees, and then there is barley any left. hey look! i say to myself, it is flat land! i can build my house there! i have a alot of wood so i build my house there. that is the best part about swamps.
IxReapzz, your goal is 7,000 posts. Still, would you tell the forum why you think swamps suck? Maybe you should remove your one inch goal image so fellow forum members don't start reporting you for spamming and trolling. I find your signature goal image a real turn off.
Sure, swamps aren't gorgeous, but have you ever actually seen a pretty swamp IRL? I have no problem with them, and I think they make a nice addition. (Before you ask, yes, I have been playing MC since before the darkened swamps.)
Is it ugly? Yes. But it looks like a damn swamp! The worlds in Minecraft are huge. Exploring is a big part of the game, do so and find a spot you like. That is what is great about this game. Nobody is forcing you to live by the swamp biome you don't like. You can choose where you live whether it is in a jungle, a snow biome, a mountain, underground, in the nether.
Doesn't matter if the worlds are infinite if all biomes of the same type look the same. If you know the location of one forest and you find another, it's pretty much useless since for all you know they are identical. And guess what? They ARE identical (not literally but they are so similar that they might as well be identical). If you don't like one biome, then your statement is true and you can just move to another biome until you get sick of it. If you don't like ANY biome, though... heh heh heh, have fun on the terrain threads, 'cause you won't be finding anything attractive about the terrain for a while.
The mood could've been broght to you in a much better way. Making the grass grey isn't what should've have been done. Maybe there should be a fine mist that covers the landscape or maybe the water should be murky.
I agree with the mist, but not the murky water. That would muck up biome transitions like they do now. It could also be done by making swamp trees taller and thicker and by covering the water in duckweed (like lily pads but they don't support your weight).
Should they be removed? Because I don't like them? There's plenty of other biomes for me to choose from, I don't have to go near a swamp if I don't have to, and some people like the swamps, so no.
I also think they have a good grass colour for the swamp now. Didn't like it when it looked that grey colour, the dark, muddy green it is now is more appropriate.
If anything, the grass is still gray. It was much better as a vibrant green. I don't care if it doesn't look like a hollywood swamp, it's prettier that way.
That is a bald-faced lie
Each biome is uniquely interesting and exploration is one of the greatest features of the game.
I'd agree with you on snow biomes but I'm pretty sure Mojang said that improving them was the next step.
Actually, it's a truth. Each biome IS uniquely interesting in it's own unique ways. Said ways do not change between biomes of the same type. Ever. Thus, every swamp will look the same as another swamp. Every forest looks the same as another forest. Suddenly, those biomes aren't so unique, huh? If you don't like swamps, have fun staying away from swamps. If you don't like any biome, have fun staying away from every biome--oh, that's right, you can't. Poor you, but at least we have witch huts now, right? And bats! /sarcasm
(Improving snow biomes is not the next step, by the way, that would be overhauling the terrain.)
If those pictures are so biased, i'm sure you would like to take pictures that actually rival the old terrain. (Those pictures are not biased, by the way.)
Exploration is useless you say?. Because apparently villages, temples, dungeons, witch huts, and strongholds is not worth exploring.
You're right, they aren't. That's because those are also plagued by the predictability disease too! You wouldn't explore for such a place unless you've never played with the current terrain before and you just happen to stumble across the structure while you walk around experiencing the biomes. No, you're just searching for those structures. Exploring is taking a nice long walk and seeing what the world has to offer. Searching is when you're looking specifically for something. And when you do find those structures, chances are you're only there for the loot. So, you decide to loot the structure; you aren't exploring, though, since you've already seen these structures before, right?
So, no. Structures are not worth exploring/searching for as they are just as predictable as the terrain (in other words, very).
If theres one thing that desperately needs changing, its the friggin ground underwater, it looks godawfully sloppy, just random bits of sand dirt and clay everywhere, its just terrible.
Agreed, it's positively terrible. I once decided to make a swamp NPC village in (you guessed it) a swamp. There was sand and clay all piled up on the shores of the murk, so I replaced it all with dirt. It looked surprisingly good.
But the loot changes making exploration very vital if you want some materials.
And the mod "Better World Generation" suits you.
1) Mods are not the answer. They introduce bugs and divide the community.
2) BWG actually makes the problem worse, as jungles get a nasty water coloring.
3) BWG doesn't fix the predictability issues.
4) That would be searching, not exploring. If you were exploring, you would stumble upon the structure and delve in to the depths (or not). If you were searching for it, you would say "about time" and start looting it for the loot.
Anyway, even though I don't like building in swamps they are freaking awesome. Lots of trees, all kinds of animals (cows, pigs, sheep, chicken), lily pads and now slimes.
That's because mods are not the answer; we've told you this a million times, and you refuse to listen. I also like how you conveniently ignored the negative and ugly parts to swamps (grass color, underwater geology, and water color)
What's wrong with this one? I think it looks nice and swamp-y.
The river. Notice how the river looks decidedly un-swamp-y? (It is a little biased as that pic was taken before the transitions were smoothed out a little.)
what is that sentence supposed to even mean? Of course a jungle doesn't look like a taiga, IT'S A JUNGLE
and don't hate on jungles either those things are huge resource farms
Simple: every jungle will be nearly identical to another jungle. The only difference would be the layout of x-hills within and the placement of jungle temples, if they exist in the jungle.
And, I don't care if jungles are great for resources. They're just as predictable as every other biome.
Sure, swamps aren't gorgeous, but have you ever actually seen a pretty swamp IRL? I have no problem with them, and I think they make a nice addition. (Before you ask, yes, I have been playing MC since before the darkened swamps.)
I looked up a few pictures of swamps just now. They looked pretty good, unlike current swamps, and they were roughly as green as in-game swamps are without the overlay.

Did something happen to you in your childhood to give you this unreasonable fear of rutabaga?
The swamp biome in Minecraft is a signature mark...
I don't know why you would want to remove it, It's actually beautiful to me (Extreme Mountains are my personal favorite biome)
The swamp biome is what made Minecraft... Minecraft to me. I remember when I just bought the game... I loved to explore. I found the swamp biome and I remember building a boat and traveling on the rivers that are throughout the biome itself. I also remember being chased by the mobs, seeking cover in random cave holes... drowning 0.0
But still... the variety of biomes in Minecraft is what makes it unique, instead of the same thing over and over again type games. But always remember, nothing is perfect, and Mojang really hit the spot on making a "Simulation game" by not adding what everyone wants, but everything good and bad for you.

And to further on this comment, as of the new(Ish) release, slimes now spawn in them. I don't know about you, but I'd rather have the mob fit the biome instead of mindless wandering through caves praying for that *Splat* noise.

Witch Huts= Witches that ONLY spawn in the witch hut, and I mean only.Witches= infinite redstone, glass bottles, potions, glowstone, need I say more? Swamps= easy slime balls.
I still don't get why the black grass and water is bad, it looks nice to me! I like swamps! Though I think they'd look better if grass could grow under one block of water! Seaweed would be the best but you can't have water and any other block in the same space...

"Sometimes, I just wanna give up, say 'I'm done with this mess' and go to bed. But you know what; you can't shrug off your responsibilities. You got to pull yourself up and meet the challenges head on. That's the only way you're gonna get ahead in life."
I won't comment on the mod part. It makes perfect sense to me why they are.
Regarding the swamp part, I think it resembles a real life swamp pretty well. Swamps usually have murky, still water and mud all over the place. I'm pretty sure there are beautiful swamps in the world (and it's most likely the pictures you've seen are from nice looking swamps) but generally speaking, when you're asking someone "what's a swamp" they'll most probably tell you what we've already said.
At least that's how I see it and why I don't want bright coloured swamps...
Swamps do have murky water, but the problem is is that swamps use the standard river biome (at times) to create pools. Since there isn't a swamp river biome, these just generate ugly pools of clean water surrounded by murky water (the same thing happens when a river cuts through a swamp: the river is clean, but the swamp is murky). It'd be very easy to fix this by adding a swamp river biome (which would replace rivers that run through the area and be used to generate the pools) which is identical to a normal river except it produces lily pads and has the overlay. It would have to be done alongside another terrain update, though (though I doubt it would work as well if a new generator were implemented), since it would create chunk walls. Again.
Keeping the water color for just the water would be good (it looks good for water but not for grass) but changing the grass color to something a little less black would satisfy me. I'd also like taller trees and more tree density (especially in the water) but that's a personal preference.
Of course, I would prefer a terrain overhaul over this.
Swamps are just one of Mojang's many attempts to make their game more life like or realistic in reality it doesn't hurt the game. It doesn't look pretty because that's the reality we have tons of swamps here they aren't known for being beautiful. In my true opinion yes they could have some work done to keep them from as ugly as they are but they aren't some magical land with ponies and rainbows it's just a bunch of mud, water, and trees.
1) Mods are not the answer. They introduce bugs and divide the community.
I'll only answer this one. My mind is on the verge of exploding due to anger (due to personal problems)
My philosophy about mods, is they are like band aids, they temporarily fix something that is broken, the terrain is "simplified" so I downloaded the (BWG) mod, so problem solved. Then I solved the emptiness of the world with Mo' creatures, that is two problems solved, then with the absence of new weapons I downloaded the following: Balkon's weapon mod, Forged swords, more bows, and I am thinking of downloading more swords mod. So I solved three of my problems with a few mods, (I still have a fourth problem you see, I can't find a good Arcane/Magic mod, help and recommendations is appreciated.) Since mods solved my problems, I am not whining, and just waiting to see the day that Mojang improves some aspects that I like.
And the community was divided long ago, when the terrain was simplified, enchanting and brewing introduced, and people trying to bend the game to their own will appeared.
You're forgetting that some mods are incompatible with one another, that's why it's better to have features in vanilla rather than a mod. Just for example, OptiFine is incompatible with BTW, so I pretty much have to deal with the black grass. That's why I suggested removing the hardcoded black color and just add it into the grass/foliage color so people can retexture them. And to those saying it looks more realistic this way, you should know that real life swamps don't have black grass, they have green.
WoeUntoYou. In Vietnam, Arkansas, Oregon and other places I have seen all different colors of foliage and grass. Ranging from bright green to completely black.
Yet another Minecraft player who spends all his time ing about new features or "how it used to be". I do agree that sometimes swamos can be a bit ugly, but posting rage threads on the forums isn't going to change anything.
