as i find myself beating the enderdragon in my hardocre world, i realize that hardcore is too easy
this is a list of things that should make hardcore harder.
1) Animals spawn less commonly and drop less meat.
2) Tools break faster
3) player looses hunger more quickly when breaking blocks(might already be in hard mode)
4) Hostile Mobs spawn more commonly with armor and do not burn in sunlight with armor
5)Armored creepers
6)nether creepers
7)better enderman AI (remove blocks to get to you, dont teleport into water)
8)creepers explode more quickly
9)dungeons with 2 spawners (may be overpowered, might remove this part.)
10)Player slows temporarily after taking fall damage
11)no bonus chest option
12)wheat grows slower
13)creeper explosions do not damage other mobs
14)skeleton arrows do not damage other mobs
15)zombies break doors faster
16)Baby animals grow up slower
17)endermen near you get angry when you hit the ender dragon
18)Villages spawn with ungrown crops
19)villagers will attack you when you hurt them
20)herobrine/other very rare, powerful mob
21)rotten flesh gives you slowness for 30s
22)rotten flesh breifly poisons you for 1-2 seconds
23)villager trades are more expensive
24)guard mob guards ender portal
25)blaze light you on fire when you touch them
26)ghasts shoot fireballs more often
i hope some of these are implemented, and i may add more ideas when i get new ones, and cross out bad ideas, in summary this thread is subject to revision
Herobrine? NO ONE WANTS HEROBRINE IN GAME IT IS ALWAYS SUGGESTED AND IT'S NOT GOOD. In addition, plenty of people think Hardcore is hard, so these (very bad) suggestions would mess everything up for smart people w/ brains.

Isn't it weird thatpalindrome is emordnilap backwards?
If you think Hardcore is too easy, why don't you pitch the idea of adding the game mode of Insanity or better yet, why not me now because you were slow to the punch with coming up with a solution.
You people who always say hard mode is too easy just need to chill and take a break from the game. EVERY game gets easy once you play it enough. Just because you overplayed the game and not it is easy to you doesn't mean Mojang should make it harder for you.

ragnarock200: awesome, are those things with the creeper faces pistons or furnaces

I'm going to stick with my idea for Insanity Difficulty because it will extend the challenge for various players and it will test their skills to the limits.

Speaking of Herobrine, he should be added as a dungeon boss instead of a mod or creator controlled character. That's different than just spitting out the idea, it's adding a new game boss and upping the difficulty. Maybe even when Herobrine is defeated he can drop a super rare item in Hardcore or as I mentioned, in Insanity Mode. Also he can wear Diamond Armor with the highest level of the Protection enchantment in Insanity. Therefore adding another interesting and challenging addition to Minecraft. Herobrine could be a great perspective, you guys have to look at it in another way. Modify original ideas like I just did and add something to make it less annoying and more interesting.
I understand how you feel about that Talon but, I'm trying to help SuperPotatoGamer with a solution to his problem about him overplaying the game. You can always stick to your Hard-Hardcore Gamemode but for players who seek something absolutly insane in difficulty can use the Insanity difficulty and I get you fully. People are always gonna feel the way you do and the difficulty I mentioned is for the truly masterful people in Minecraft. It can possibly bring a whole new element of the game.
If you want insane difficulty, then challenge yourself in different ways. Set rules for how your house can be built. You want death to be near in Hardcore? Don't have a door. Disallow the use of diamond for armor and tools. As suggested, install mods to increase the difficulty. Downgrade to whatever version is needed and install mo'creatures, then go live in a biome where wildcats might attack you.
Better yet, forbid yourself from making a permanent home in hardcore, use commands to make sure it is ALWAYS nighttime, and again, limit your armor/weapons to maxing at iron. That should be plenty hard for you. Take this challenge in a desert. THAT should give you your fix for near-death minecrafting. Also...No light sources better than redstone torches for marking a fallback point. Can't have people lighting up the desert, can you?
I think I'll go do all this now...See how long I live.
Seriously , girtas and galax? What I'm trying to say is that Insanity Difficulty would be played by very knowledgable and skillful players in Minecraft (as JeolAutobot10 said). It would add a whole new perspective to Minecraft for very experienced players that have played for so many hours and basically became a walking minecraft encyclopedia.

For new, harder difficulties to work well, you shouldn't be able to change the difficulty in a map (as in, once you create a world the difficulty is fixed on what you selected). Unless you have cheats on or a special "custom difficulty" difficulty or something. After all, what would otherwise stop a newbie from switching to peaceful at the sight of creepers?
As a side effect, it would move Hardcore to it's own difficulty, but what would become of the current hardcore? Would hardcore become Insanity with permadeath or would it remain as Hard with permadeath? If Hardcore remains as it is (assuming there isn't a permadeath checkbox or Insanity forces permadeath) then it'll feel like an arbitrary difficulty.

Hardcore≠challenge. Not with hard mode's difficult as it is, anyway. You don't die frequently enough and death is almost never near.
That said, this isn't a very good idea either.

As to all these changes...How 'bout no.
