The sand blocks attaching this way was not part of my idea. It was Badprenup's, when he was making the banner, but I plan to add it to the OP as well. Surely many possibilities when combined with sand cannons...

It's kind of like super long ranged wireless redstone. You shoot the torch out of a cannon! XD
So if a block has a torch facing outwards from a piston, will it still move on a block?
Yes, It will still move on blocks until the piston reaches it's 12 block limit, so this:
T = Torch, B = Block, P=Piston
PBBTBBTBBBTBT
(With piston and torches pointing this way: =>)
When the piston extends, it moves everything:
P BBTBBTBBBTBT
But if you put one more block, there will be 13 blocks and the piston won't move:
PBBTBBTBBBTBTB
Notice that this generalizes to other dependent blocks, not only torches, and in other directions as well. For example, you could push an stack of blocks and rails upward and downward, and they wont break in neither way.
I like the eninitys being moved but everything else is a no from me
But the point of this thread is to add moveable dependent blocks... Piston cars and robots are just a consequence of it. Have you ever heard about redstone?
If I knew anything about modding, I'd be all over this.
But getting it into the actual game is a must have.Making the assumption this would get added as is. Someone should draw up schematics on how they would build a "piston car"

Keep in mind that I took a little bit of artistic liberty when making the signature. I initially intended to do a top down view of minecart track being pushed around but size limitations made that impossible. I only had so many ways I could illustrate blocks that depend on another to exist, and the Cacti was just something I added to make the sig a bit more lively. To my knowledge Sand has to change it's block type when falling so it might be impossible to make cacti drop with it.

Yeah that's true. And it's probably now worth it to completely rewrite the way sand is coded only to add the ability to stick to dependent blocks mid-air. Normal sand, by itself, could be used to create wireless signals, anyways.

Making an schematics for a piston car is actually pretty easy with the motor design I created... just put a bunch of motors on the back and make a redstone clock to power them. The rest is decoration and aesthetics. Sadly, It's impossible to make a piston wall without holes on the back, so the car wouldn't be totally enclosed.
I can imagine making portable houses and even piston trains! There should be a completely new type of piston for this.
A completely new kind of piston? Why would we want that, while normal pistons could do the job? The idea is not about new blocks or items to minecraft, just tweaking it's mechanics a bit, making pistons the way they should have been when they were introduced in the game.
Everithing very nice, but... say hello to robots and computers, and good-bye to automatic farms and so used mechanisms that works with actual piston behaviors.

If I may: Mwahahahahahaha.

I don't get the redstone block idea... what would it do exactly?

Can you please explain what you don't like? Just saying: NO! Isn't very helpful to the OP.

You normally can't do that - I'm not actually sure how you did do that. So I would guess no.
