Redstone is for giving off power, that is why i suggested greenstone and bluestone to act as conductors, how redstone dust acts now.
But there is no point. We already have redstone dust for that. other than you thinking it makes no sense (and really, nobody cares what you think, we're all fine with it), there is NO problem with the current redstone system.
The problem is the logical flaw i pointed out. Thats all i wanted to fix.
Minecraft needs a bit of logic, but it doesn't need to have some everywhere with anything. YES there is a logical flaw, but fixing it would make ALL redstone projects fail if this is implemented. And the current redstone system is PERFECT. DON'T YOU UNDERSTAND?!

No i don't understand. The system is not perfect as it contains a very obvious logical flaw. I am merely asking that Jeb fix his game and fix this issue.

Since you're not getting it I'll break it up to you one more time:
REDSTONE TORCH=POWER SOURCE
REDSTONE DUST = WIRE So please understand it for heavens sake!
Yes but there is an obvious logic flaw. Redstone dust is just a piece of redstone on the ground. A redstone torch is a piece of redstone on a stick, why should only one of them produce power?

Same reason a piece of coal on a stick makes light. As Gameguy602 said, it's a torch, it is lit and emits energy.
Just stop arguing/trolling/whatever this is.

Why would Jeb fix something that is not broken? I can see your flaw now..

Because, like I said already:
When redstone interacts with any type of decaying organic material, it gives off an electrochemical reaction that is self sustaining.
Doesn't explain why redstone placed on wood doesn't give off power?
It being a TORCH does, because it implies burning, perfectly reasonable source of power. And you wanted internal consistency, so you've got it, normal torches never burn out either.

Anyway, a simple fix would be this, have the redstone torchs taken out, and replaced with power torchs, made using redstone, coal, and a stick. But, that means a ton of codeing, and it also means harder to make machines, as well as a whole list of other problems.
So i say, keep it simple, and say that steve is mixing redstone with coal dust while you are not looking, thats my answer.

Because the sticks contain more sap (which is what the redstone bonds to and reacts with), and are more alive. Planks are more cut up and processed, and is not covered in bark, therefore the wood is much less alive and contains less sap, which is also why planks don't produce a current, because the sap is more spaced out and external (exposing it to air, solidifying it and making it polluted with dust and organic material that the redstone cannot react with), where a stick has bark on the outside protecting the sap, but can be accessed by the redstone on the top.
Logs don't work because they work too well. Like inverted torches and repeater clocks, when placed on a log the redstone dust burns itself out, not letting the dust on top of it to create power using the sap in the log.

Very smart, i was also thinking that the redstone gives off a small charge, but it does far more when compressed like on a torch, think about it.
Redstone dust = Non-compressed, and thus gives off less power
Redstone torch = stick+ Compressed redstone dust.
The idea is that it gives off light when its still an ore, but when its mined it breaks up, then it gets re-compressed when you make a torch.
I think it should stay as it is currently is. Period.

Redstone is MAGIC.
EDIT:
And here is proof that you are a hypocrite.
It's providing power by burning.
It doesn't burn out because torches in minecraft are infinite.

What flaw?
When redstone interacts with any type of decaying organic material, it gives off an electrochemical reaction that is self sustaining.
Seems logical to me, and we don't even need other wires...
Also, why didn't you add this to those threads? If your going to latch your concept onto them...

Due to the finishing process, the floors have a varnish that can't be penetrated.
Not to mention the special coating of oil that the sticks have, the same stuff that makes the regular torches burn forever. Think "Greek Fire"
PS: I am a DM (like it's something to be proud of...) I can come up with reasoning alllll night
