Minecraft oceans don't have to be like Earth oceans. I think Mars had shallow seas at one point in it's history? Some planets don't have oceans at all I bet.
Sprucing up the ocean in Minecraft would be nice. Cleaning up the bottom while adding sea life with both plants and mobs would make the ocean more explorable. Underwater caves and things would be nice too and in there could be deposits of things like clay or something maybe? Underwater ruins would be good too.

"I thought what I'd do was, I'd pretend I was one of those deaf-mutes. Or should I?" - The Laughing Man.
Huge support for most of the things on that list. Not a big fan of the lighthouses, they sort of make the concept of sunken ships sort of silly and contridictary. You might not agree and that's okay - but if I were to choose a structure it would be the ships.
Love the coral and kelp!
Also like the whales, although they feel like the equivilant of ocean dwelling intelligent NPCs, reminicsent of villiagers. A little too much for an animal mob, in my opinion. On the other hand, they are pretty intelligent animals.
I like the walruses, they would go good with someone's suggestion of icebergs that I saw on these forums somewhere. Icebergs would spawn in ocean areas close to the winter biomes, most commonly. If the tropical islands spawned in relation to the jungle biomes the same, it would be a wonderful balance.
EDIT: Here's another idea. Take your dinosaur concept and rework it into the next Boss Mob. Only chance to spawn on the ocean floor below a certain depth and requires a specific amount of space. It would be awfully tough to fight an exceptionally fast fishy mob under the water!

Can I just say, have you ever thought about working for a game dev company? Your concept art is well done. You do a good job doing side, top, and proper angles, as well as converting it into what it would look like in game. Very well done on talking about how it would act, and how the mechanics apply, and the spawn rate.
It shows you have a good understanding of the game you're making suggestions for. I will save this thread, I'm looking forward to more of your ideas!

Well that's a bummer, my mind started running wild with the thought of an underwater boss mob.
Regardless, I do enjoy the rest of it!
