Yet the problem stays.....gold takes too much time and effort to collect (without some mob farm note: never figured out pigman spawn rate soo couldnt make one :S) ...and since gold doesn't last long and you need to fight a lot of pigmen to get each nugget, you'll break a lot of gold swords doing that just to rebuild just one.
Wood isnt naturally spawning in the nether so that doesn't count as a ore and it doesn't last long compared to tree growth time. The Nether seems to need a ore as its missing one.
Also 1 last thing Quote - "It's implied by the fact that its hell." Who says you cant live in hell? or its not suitable for living? The fact mobs are in there suggests they live there so why not the normal MC player? See my point? Its not written in stone that this isnt what you cant do in mc in this area. I like to think you can do just about anything if you plan for it.
Sounds like you just need to figure out a zombie pigmen farm and your good. And the fact that everything in it is dead or made of fire doesn't make it seem livable. Hell by definition is not supposed to be livable. Anyway, you've been creative enough to figure the rest of this out, you can make a gold farm and I think that solves your problem.

Minecraft makes me feel like I'm three. Playing with blocks and afraid of the dark.
Yes, it is, in fact, suggested that we don't live in the nether. One example of how it is suggested is that there is no dirt to grow trees on, which produce wood that you need for EVERY tool. Another example is that you can't even set a spawn there without some mod.
No matter how much you deny it, it is suggested. Yes, you could live there, with the mandatory trips to the over world, but you could also stab yourself, but you don't.
There should be an ore in the nether, but not so people can live there. Should be pretty rare. Like a little less than diamond or something. Should have some perks though because you went through the trouble to find it.
That would be pointless if the ore is for tools and its more rare then diamond....that defeats the purpose of it. I dont want anything special just give me something thats at least semi decent

Nowhere it says not to live in the nether, wood/trees are not normal but they grow. But you are able to grow trees just bring your own dirt. Also my spawn? I have a bed right next to my portal in the overworld. So no problem there. Just because you cant set your spawn in the nether does not suggest nor say you cant live there. Heck the reason you probably cant set your spawn in the nether so you cant get trapped in it. So yeah I dont need your so called "mandatory trips" to the overworld, The only trips im forced to make is for stone, just for tools.

Dead? No skeletons here....Zombie pigmen are undead....but gasts lava slimes and other mobs live there and aren't technically dead. So 1 mob being undead doesn't suggest its not liveable. Also no where in the definition of the word "hell" says you cant live there.
As for the gold farm, I dont know how I would set it up. I mean I know they spawn on nether-rack but other then that idk how they spawn. I mean they normally spawn all over randomly. So yeah havnt figured that out yet. I'm used to spawners in the overwrold for some mobs to set traps zombie pigmen are like pigs and they are everywhere :/ So any suggestions? because with no clue of there spawn rate i'm stuck
Glow stone isnt an ore really, because when you mine it, it breaks into dust....you dont refine it or smelt it or anything like that. That and its not for tool making
I hate to split hairs, but it's near midnight, and I'm on the internet, so... I'd say glow stone is an ore as much as redstone is. Coal also comes as an ore, and so does lapis lazuli. I think the problem with your thinking is that you can only imagine a new nether ore as an iron/diamond/gold clone. You really ought to think of more diverse options. Think about what it is you really want to do in the game, rather than just the blocks you want to add. Come at the problem from the end, rather than the beginning. And try not to simply clone iron. Iron is iron. We don't need a different iron. (Diamond and gold as tool materials are already stretching the suspension of disbelief.)
That said, I do think there are creative solutions waiting to be discovered for cool stuff in the nether. I'm basically agreeing with you on what I see as the main point, which is that the Nether needs a way to allow the player to live and build in it. (And almost as important: it would be nice to have more things to look for in the nether, more treasures, if you will.)
What I worry about though, is that the Nether might lose its distinct feeling. Playing in the Nether right now is a very different experience from playing in the Overworld, and I don't want to lose that. That's why I suggested an (mildly) explosive pickaxe earlier in the thread. I look at the theme of the nether, and I examine how we can solve this problem while still adhering to the theme and feeling of the nether (fire, explosions, lava, heat, nastiness, sulfur, etc.).
Your "new ore" solution just seems very rigid and single-minded to me.

Well its late here too so lets split hairs, you say redstone, lapis, and coal are ores.....fair enough however when you mine these ores you get the item that was in the block, glowstone however you get dust and they have to be rebuilt. So they are much different then the ores you had named. I just dont see it as a ore, I mean when do you hear someone say "I found a ore of glowstone" ? You mostly hear "I found glowstone" but then its personal preference then.
As for "diverse options" Honestly, if its semi common and some what decent I'm not picky, anything is better the nothing after all.
Now for the "distinct feeling" you dont want to lose, well I think if we had a new martial that didnt require you to go back to the overworld for iron or whatever you'll still have that distant feeling. I mean how much more of a "distinct feeling" can you get from a world that works differently from the underworld, but retuning to there overworld a lot sorta ruin that "distinct feeling" for me....if you get what I mean
Anyway 1 final thing when I think nether I dont think "explosive" As the only explosive thing is ghasts....I think Nether more as hot, deep, and toxic ores maybe. Something thats more dangerous then a simple explosive item
I would like to see the Nether as being liveable, and it could be solved with a simple addition.
Slimewater. You could place it as a gelatinous block (or half-block), and it wouldn't be able to flow more than one square horizontally. The source would have to be mined (shovel) to collect it again. Mining it would return only a some of its components - that is, most of the slimeballs used, and not the water bucket used. Therefore, turning lava lakes into obsidian with slimewater is extremely impractical, and impossible if you don't have a very large supply of water buckets and slimeballs (which require you to go to the Overworld to acquire in the first place).
It would behave like water, but with the specifications listed above. You could generate cobblestone, have hydrated farms, and have cool-looking green water for general usage. I could propose that slimewater would have a chance to spawn in swamp biomes... in addition to being craftable with water and slimeballs.
This whole suggestion kept revolving around "the nether needs an ore to make it liveable", which is a completely invalid reason in terms of ore. If another ore gets introduced in the game, it should have more flexibility by offering a LOT more uses than just being tools and armor like the existing ores have. This doesn't include Lapis.
Oh boy where to i start on to how wrong you are...lets see here
1. I Guess ill start with "no way to live there", Yes there is, I am doing so currently so enough with that false no backup proof statement.
2. Moving on to lets see "no food" Growing wheat making bread, eating apples, growing mushrooms for soup, eating pigman bacon....yeah I think I de-bunked this whole no food thing you mentioned by now.
3. I doubt you even "remember" what the nether looks like or what you can do there, as so far all your statements are either A. Wrong or B. False statements without proof.
Maybe you should research what you are talking about before commenting on it.
I am right, you just misunderstood me.
1: I ment no way to just live there w/o geting any items from the overworld. There is no items in the nether or end were you can make tools or food w/o having to go to the overworld. I am currently living completely in the End.
2: Practicly answered it in 1.
3: Now that is just plain rude of you. All of my statements are "true" and "with proof".
Before a mod came in and did a sweep-and-clean in this thread, you mentioned that the definition of the word "Hell" doesn't mean a place that's unlivable, even though it actually does.
Also, the fact that this suggestion has been done before does not mean that the idea is good. It doesn't work that way. If Mojang implemented every single suggestion in this forum that had any decent amount of support, the game would have overpowered fighter jets, annoying bandits that can break into your house and steal your hard-earned diamonds, military tanks and a bunch of crappy underdeveloped dimensions with no appeal. Popularity =/= Quality.
Please, please stop using the "says who" thing. There was actually no need for you to say that in the first place. This whole time, people were never saying "There is absolutely no way to live in the Nether. At all." They were actually just telling you "The Overworld is more suited to be lived than the Nether, that's why the ores are in the Overworld and not in the Nether."

Hey, you there. Yes, you! Are you thinking about posting a suggestion on the forums anytime soon? If so, please read this before doing so.
when I first saw the suggestion I thought it was kinda meh. after reading a bit more of it I find the suggestion kind of stupid now. if you go from start to finish with the thread you'll see that you keep the dumb reason of this suggestion is just to make the nether a place to live in...
So no saying notch or jab have been lazy with the nether is just my opinion im not going to make any new account because of that.
it doesn't matter if that's your opinion because that's still a stupid thing to say. i mean they gave us the end dimension and villager trading, the amount stuff we got in the 12w34b snapshot was insane, so I don't think they got lazy. its more likely they didn't put a new block in the nether because they didn't want to. i think the suggestion is bad and the reason for it is really really stupid. no support.

Your lack of an ability to detect hyperbole is disturbing. A also disagree on the fact that those are the best suggestions ever, but I digress as subjective matter cannot be accurately debated. And, even if it could, I frankly don't care enough to do so.
I do appreciate the fact that you considered my proposition, though. XD

The first definition of hell never says you cant live there, Also yes i know the bio is called hell early in the game but we call it Nether So i'm going guess that maybe the Nether compared to traditional Christian hell is different. With every religion there are different definitions of hell. Not all are the same. See what im getting at here?
2. I wouldnt say its a bad idea, I know they did a lot of updates but the updates have been mostly for the overworld improving it, while the only main update for the nether was adding a new mob or two and a nether fortress with some new block items. I feel as they are mainly working on the overworld (which would explain my saying they are a bit lazy with the nether in a prior post) However I do feel as if they are going to make a update for the nether sometime in the near future as out of everything in MC The Nether does lack things in it compared to the overworld, i wont even mention the end as thats more of a boss battle field really due to its size and all.
3. Well the only reason I say "says who" is to bring up the fact people keep prancing around declaring "The nether isnt meat for this or that you cant live there ect" They act like Notch himself posted you cant live there or the whole purpose of the nether is to collect nether-rack and thats it. I know you are trying to tell me they where just saying the oevrworld is more suited but thats not 100% true as some did clam "the nether is only for fast travel and blaze rods" hearing that just makes me sick -.- Thats why I go with the says who hoping someone would catch on so far it didnt work as some are still making wild claims like that, and with a game like MC where you can just do about anything anywhere I dont want people saying "oh you cant do that there ect" Honestly it reminds me of that one thrad about a underwater city and people kept posting "the ocean is not meant for people to live under it" almost drove the op and a few other people insane with the dumb comments. What if the Nether had a new Tree type that only grew there? Like a weird looking grayish/red tree that would spawn near lava lakes or fire pits for light. The tree like plant could be fireproof like Nether wood/brick, nether stairs, and nether fence, that nether fortresses are made of. When you harvest this tree you can make them into the blocks that make up the nether fortress. Also you can craft them into sticks as well, but any tools made with it would have the durability of stone for only blocks that spawn in the nether. The tree would grow on slow sand near any light source (fire, lava ect) and because the tree is fire proof it wouldnt burn up. The spawn rate could be a bit low making them only semi common or something that way they dont over populate, and if you leave it to grow on slow sands that would help the spawn rate I think sicne other plants of the nether grow on slow sand.
What do you guys think of that idea? A fireproof plant in the nether that grows need lava or light sources of fire. Its tree blocks can be crafted into the same blocks that make of the nether bricks and nether fence.
I just thought since some where auguring if it was so,me new ore they have to go more and more out to find it then you run out in your area sooner or later.....so why not just have it as a fireproof tree. Then wood crafted from that would make what makes up nether fortresses and then could be made into nether wood/brick, stairs, fence. Sticks made form it would just be normal sticks and I think that could work.
The point the people who disagree with this thread is saying is that the nether should not be like the overworld in terms of simply surviving there itself. Living just in the nether is a challenge, not a neccesity to were it needs to be like the overworld. Yes, I do support ores, but not ores for nethertools. This would be like someone making a thread suggesting the End to be livable to by adding its own plants, food, and tools.
P.S.: Incase you missed my post on the last page, I know both the End and Nether are very livable as it is, you just needto bring things from the overworld.
What do you guys think of that idea? A fireproof plant in the nether that grows need lava or light sources of fire. Its tree blocks can be crafted into the same blocks that make of the nether bricks and nether fence.
That's actually not bad at all, assuming this plant isn't too Overworld like.

around the nether rubies generate!
these rubies are red and they are as weaker then your fist in the over world
IN the nether how ever, these tools are as stronge as Iron.
also the "stick" in the recipe are blaze rods.
These tools are weak in the over world so it's the NETHER tier not just another tier thats stronger than diamonds
SUPPORT THEM!!!!! (also if your a new please click on the picture)
