Ok we have all heard about the sky dimension but from what everyone says it needs to be hard to get there.
Well i thought it would be cool after the player would create the portal to the sky dimension and the player would enter the portal. Well it should bring them to a so called Purgatory. In this purgatory it would be like a mini adventure map and the objective is to get to the top of the mountain.
The interesting part is that the player cannot build or place blocks in this realm at all(until they get something in the sky dimension but ill get to that). The player would have to scale this mountain and kill off all enemies just to get to the top where there would be a portal waiting for them.
Now Purgatory would be a mind of its own. In my mind i see a brownish mountain(like the color of the grandcanyon) and it would be made of sand, soulsand(which would be at the bottom... for anyone who has read Purgatorio you would know why i would say soulsand at the bottom of the mountain), Purg stone, Purg bark(which could not be made into wood), and Purg leaves.
Heres everything in a nice list . Sand - Everyone knows what sand does. This would just be here and there. The sand would be used as a path for the player towards the portal to the sky dimension. Soulsand - This would be at the bottom of the mountain. Purg Stone - The first new block. It would be the signiature block and would be a nice brown color like the grand canyon. This stone gives off a faint glow and mobs dont like being near it. Purg Bark - This second new block would be yellowish and snuffs out any light under it(even a torch). Mobs would be attracted to these areas. It could not be made into anything else. Purg Leaves - Is obviously on top of the bark as the leaves and would be bluish. The bark and leave's color's would be complimentary to each other. When broken the leaves can be used as armor as a way to disguise yourself from enemies. But it would only work in Purgatory.
Theres the run down of all of how Purgatory would look. However the layout isnt quite explained.
The player would take Sponges(I dont know if they implented in survival yet) which would appear underwater and create an arangement like how the nether portal is created and would use milk to activate the portal. The player would than enter the portal and appear at the bottom of Purgatory(BTW Purgatory is a mountain just in case anyone was wondering) and would follow the sand path all the way up to the top. along the path Purg Trees(Purg Bark and Leaves) would be scattered around which would be areas for the player to watch out for because there would be enemies. And the Purg Stone would be the wall that would keep the player from quickly getting to the top. When the player would get to the top they would notice grass and regular tress at the top. The player could than go through a pool that is steaming and is surrounded by glowstone this would be at the dead center of the mountain. Once they get into the pool they would be transported to the Sky Dimension.
Now to get the blocks in Purgatory the player would have to find a temple in the Sky Dimension and find the Rod of the Gods. Which when in the player's inventory would allow him/her to collect blocks in Purgatory.
I didnt write anything about new mobs but im pretty sure if they would ever implement the Sky Dimension than there would be Mobs for that area and some could be in Purgatory.
So waht do you think of my idea guys? Please post so that i can hear what you think about this.
Uh, no thanks. I'd rather just go to the skylands, not have to wind through a dimension to get to a dimension.
well... currently to get to the end you have to go to the nether and search between 1-100000000000... minutes to find a blaze spawner then actually kill blazes then you go to the overworld kill the strongest mob in the overworld then, you take ender pearls and blaze rods and make eye of ender, then you walk for hours and then dig to the end, then the enderdragon kills you, REPEAT!
This is a nice idea, but it seems like too much work. I'd rather the End serve as Purgatory.

No, there has never, ever been a sandbox game with a story or ending... except Grand Theft Auto... and Saints Row... and Red Dead Redemption... and Crack Down... and Assassins Creed...

Irrelevant. The End isn't a dimension, it's a boss room. I hate how people think the End is a dimension, it isn't. It's a large mass of land for battling a boss. In other words, it's supposed to be incredibly hard to get to and you aren't supposed to live there. The Nether, on the other hand, is relatively easy to get to, because it is a dimension; you are able to live there. The Sky Lands would also be a dimension, as a result, they should be as easy to get to as the Nether.
How, then, is Purgatory described? Please elaborate.
On topic, I actually posted an idea for this. I'm working on a total revision of some of the concepts, but if you wanna see the orginal idea, look for my topic "New Dimension Concept?".

From what ive learned Purgatory is a mountain that one has to climb to get to Heaven. Think of a classic cake that is usually found at weddings. It would start at the bottom with the biggest 'cake' and as it goes up the 'cakes' get smaller and smaller. However if this would make people happy what if the sky dimension was just an option and doesnt hinder your path towards getting to the Enderdragon.

Bad idea is bad.
You want a dimension with no purpose. First, the Nether is the Nether. Second, the Aether/Skylands/Sky Dimension are not heaven. The original concept for getting there was to sleep in a bed. Thus, it's a dream world and not heaven. Do not draw religion into a game without the laws of gravity in most situations.
From a realistic point of view, the best way to think of the Minecraft world is an unstable dimension where parallel dimensions have a cracked spatial wall that leaks into the Overworld. The Nether is on one side and a Nether Portal can expand a crack and allow passage through the dimensional wall. The End follows a similar theory, where the End Frame in the overworld connects to the Void between dimensions (The End). Due to Endermen's ability to distort space and time they are able to pass through the boundary and escape to the Overworld without the use of a frame.
As for a more practical access method for reaching the sky dimension, I believe a nether-portal sized frame of either glowstone or diamond blocks placed at layer 200 or higher and then hit with an Ender Pearl should activate the portal to the Sky Dimension.
Since the Nether is Purgatory (I've been arguments about this, so I'll use my point in a spoiler at the end), I see no point.
Yes, it is Purgatory. Mojang thought it was Hell (a common misconception, Hell is a lake of fire which you are thrown into and remain burning in, even when your body has been destroyed) and it is considered the Hell biome, but it is Purgatory. Another argument is that Purgatory is a mountain, and that the Nether is Inferno. According to my dictionary, Purgatory & Inferno are synonymous. Finally, there's the argument that Purgatory is a Catholic specific thing. First, you can still use ideas from something even if it isn't real, and secondly, I'm Anglican and I believe in it.
Could you please describe what purgatory looks like? Your above argument doesn't prove anything unless you do.
